I am at the junkyard with the crates. I have the cutters in my inventory to use on the chained crates, but it won't let me use them. I haven't missed anything in the game so far either.

Any idea???

I went back to a saved game and tried it over. Still won't let me use the cutters.

Shift, I haven't gotten that far in Still Life yet--when you went back to a save, did you use the walkthrough to work your way forward again? That's about the only way to be sure you haven't missed some little detail in some of these picky games... luck

Shift, if I remember correctly you have to have the crates in the right position before you are allowed to use the cutters. Try moving one or more around to a different position.

Addendum to "Rice Burner" ........

You have to use the magnetic-crane to shift the two moveable crates.

IIRC, they have to lie on the ground (not one on top of the other) in front of the chained double box.

You need one of these crates to jump down from the (low wall), and the other one next to it to reach up with the cutters to the upper part of the chains.

I got a little stuck here, too, in a silly way. When I was close to the crates the cursor showed I could move to them but I couldn't get Gus to move. Finally after about 10 tries I stumbled upon the fact that when you are zoomed out he will jump to them but not when you're close up. Crazy.

happy trails,

Carolyn

I already moved the two crates over towards him and jumped him on one of them to reach the chained crates. I click on the cutters in the inventory and it won't let me use them.

Hi Shift,

Do you have the two crates lined up along the right side? They have to be in a very specific spot.

I found that the crates "look" like they are lined up next to the two stacked ones but really aren't. That was where I had problems till I figured out I needed to move them all the way to the right and then up one next to the two stacked crates (there are actually two spaces below the stacked crate but it isn't all that obvious). All along I thought I was right next to them and the view made me think I was correct but when I jumped over I still couldn't cut the chains. The perspective here is tricky but once I figured it out voila!
