I am trying to run a MAC game disc on Windows 7, and have tried to find out if, and how, it can be done. My internet searches have not yet been successful - when I try to 'search' for how to do it I get lots of messages about how to run Windows on MAC computers but no success on the reverse situation.

Is there an easy way to do this?

In a word, no. You can install a Windows OS in a MAC using special software, but not the other way around. At least, not that I'm aware of. Jenny might know some tricks!

It depends on which Mac version the game disc calls for.
There is an emulator called Basilisk II that supports up to Mac OS 8.1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_8

Basilisk II has versions for Windows and Linux as well as Intel Macs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilisk_II
http://basilisk.cebix.net/

I would not say it was easy to set up.

Mac System 7 was made a free download by Apple, which hosted the install files for a time (may still be on their site somewhere)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_7
http://igsi.tripod.com/mac/index753.htm

There are instructions here
http://emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii_setup

Mac OS 8 install CD's are harder to find now and more expensive than when I got mine.

You'd probably also have to install a program to enable the PC to read Mac CD's. I've never set up Basilisk on a PC, only on an Intel Mac which didn't have problems reading Mac CD's.

There is also a Sheepshaver for Windows emulation program that can run up to Mac OS 9 (if you happen to have an OS 9 CD).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheepshaver
http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sheepshaver_setup

------------------

There are some "hybrid" game CD's that can be used on both PC and Mac. For example, Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster, Mummy: Tomb of the Pharaoh, Journeyman Project 3, Symbiocom, The Crystal Skull, Lighthouse, Chaos: A Fantasy Adventure game, Myst (original version), Riven, The Last Express, and many edutainment titles like Genesys, Physicus, Bioscopia, Chemicus, Opera Fatal, Vikings, and Crusader. Early QuickTime made it easy to make games for both PC and pre-OSX Macs. Other games have separate discs for the Mac and PC versions (Myst Masterpiece, Amber: Journeys Beyond, 9: The Last Resort, Obsidian, Zork Nemesis, Return to Zork, RAMA, Ripper, Shivers, Timelapse, Riddle of the Sphinx, etc.)

At the time I tried out Sheepshaver and Basilisk on my iMac, there was a problem with the emulators reading hybrid CD's. This may have been solved by now, but you'd be better off using something like VMware or VirtualPC to play those hybrid disc games anyway.

Thanks for the info, Jenny100, but it is all far beyond me.
The game is Obduction, but I have no idea which
Mac system is involved, so I will have to pass on it.

petert

Error not Obduction, but Cognition!!

Cognition has a Windows version.
If you want the Windows version, many of the places that sell it are having holiday sales.

The Mac version of Cognition would definitely be OS X. The first version of OS X (10.0) was released in March 2001 according to Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOS

Mac emulators like Basilisk and Sheepshaver are for earlier versions of Mac OS -- and games from the 1990's.

Well then I'm confused -- unless he's thinking of a game other than Cognition or Obduction.

I, too, was confused - until I looked again at the contents of the package in which Mad had sent the Cognition game.
Mad had told me that she sent the discs - plural - and they seemed identical, and I assumed that it was a 2-disc set. Unfortunately, I had tried to load the MAC version, not realising that the other disc was the Windows version.

Now everything is OK, except that I feel a bit stupid for wasting everybody's time.

Apologies to all.
