A Google search found many hits on bypassing the password. However, the procedures could be difficult for someone not a computer hobbyist. If your friend has any internet access, tell her to look at http://www.instructables.com/id/Resetting-Forgotten-Windows-7-Password/?ALLSTEPSWhen you gave her the computer, did she also get the installation CD or a recovery disk? Is there any reason to believe the computer is infected with malware? Exactly what does she see on the screen when trying to boot?

When I gave her the computer I gave her the Cyberpower installation disk that came with the computer. I don't know if she still has it but lets assume she does, can that be used somehow to gain access and change or remove the current password. That would be a very unusual feature for an installation disc. I don't know exactly what's on a Cyberpower installation disc, but there's probably not a password recovery tool. She may have to take the computer to a computer repair shop. Password recovery tools aren't the easiest things to work with for non-technical people. Also, a password that suddenly fails to work could be a sign of a failing hard drive or an infection.

I don't know if the Cyberpower installation disc is an actual installation disc with the recovery options, etc. or if it's just a disc for re-imaging the hard drive back to factory default. You might be able to reset the password if you have access to the Administrative account. http://www.lostwindowspassword.com/break-windows-7-password-from-safe-mode.htmlAny encrypted files may be permanently encrypted though. I still don't think this is a job for a non-technical person, and we still don't know exactly why the password isn't working. If she changed the password and forgot what it was changed to, that's a different matter from an infection.
