John Hurt who played the War Doctor in Doctor Who has died he was 77. I know he was in lots of other things, but none of the stories I've seen mention Doctor Who which is what I most recently saw him in and it annoys me that they always refer to actors works from decades ago but not their more recent parts.

My prayers go out to his family.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

We've lost an amazing talent. The world is diminished a bit when someone like John Hurt passes, I think.

Partially because we own the series and also because I still believe it's one of his most amazing roles, I'll remember him first as the infamous Caligula in "I, Claudius." Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus was a horrible individual in so many ways and Hurt really brought him to life and made you understand just how insidious he was.

Next, I'll remember his voice work in "Watership Down" as Hazel, yet another tormented character. If you've never seen the anime/movie it is definitely worth the rent. Be warned though, it's not a Disney film about happy, fluffy animals. It's allegory of the cruelty in life and the difficulty to keep moving through it.

Hurt was so full of emotion, so expressive in his delivery. It's hard to imagine someone filling his place as well as he did all these years through his truly impressive collection of work.

RIP John Hurt.

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

RIP John Hurt. His performance in I Claudius was astonishing. I also saw a much younger John Hurt recently in A Man for All Seasons.
