I've suddenly been warned today by Firefox (after their latest update) not to log-in to GameBoomers duh

The full message is at :

https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Protect-your-privacy/Insecure-password-warning-in-Firefox/ta-p/27861

I can still log-in using IE so for the time being I will do that.

Is anyone else experiencing this ??

I have been getting the same message for a few days now, after my Firefox was updated. I am confident that nothing is wrong but rather some new "feature" that pops up with certain websites. My son has been getting this message with a few other reputable websites as well. It's annoying, though.

So are you just "ignoring" the message and carrying on using Firefox to get here, Marian ??

I just updated 52.0 and logged into GameBoomers without any message....

Edit

I was already logged in the first time... but noticed that GameBoomers does not have the "https" secure link on it... when I logged out and when I came back I got the message.. mysterymanor also does not have the "https" and I got a message cause I had to log into the site... its the lack of "https" I believe

I just tried logging out and I did get that warning... it is definitely because the GB URL doesn't use https.

Yes it's as Winfrey and Draclvr said -- Firefox has implemented this warning in their latest version, and it appears when you log into a website that doesn't use https.

You're no more or less secure using a different browser, like IE, that doesn't display the warning, and Firefox doesn't prevent you from logging in.

What the message means is that someone with a packet analyzer who is monitoring the connection between you and Gameboomers will be able to see your what your password is when you log in. On an https website, the password would be encrypted so someone monitoring logins wouldn't be able to tell what the password is that is being sent.

If you want to disable the message, check
https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Firefox/Disable-Option-for-the-The-new-login-warning/td-p/1374278
Quote:
you can disable the warning dropdown like this: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled double-click it and change its value to false.

Mad,
Are you in Firefox's about:config listing?
You have to type
about:config
into the url bar (the place that usually has gameboomers.com)
Then dismiss the warning
Then do a search for
security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled

I have not disabled the warning myself.
It's just a warning -- doesn't affect anything.

How difficult , or rather , perhaps , how expensive would it be , to make this an https site for the forums ? Personally , my password information is just that , mine . Not trying to be mean in any way , just curious is all .

That's something Marita would have to find out.

It's really nothing to worry about and is only a warning.

Transitioning to https, might be a thing to consider for future.

if you are totally paranoid, just don't login to GB when you are in a starbucks and using their wifi

Hi Jenny100 smile

I've found it now, thank you. I obviously didn't search well enough last time redface

So, I've altered the "true" to "false" but now when I log-in to Gameboomers using Firefox I have to type in User Name and Password just as I do with IE !! Whereas I didn't have to with Firefox previously crazy

You can try deleting all your Gameboomers cookies, which should force Firefox to make new ones -- hopefully the new cookies will work properly.

If you don't know how to delete cookies in Firefox, check this site

If you don't know what something is, do a search at the Wikipedia.

I can't stand coffee , & loathe Starbucks for that matter , so that's hardly a concern . Paranoid is something I am not , I'm just not too fond of leaving personal information out in the open . Then again , I don't think there's much of anything to worry about here .

Hi Jenny100 smile

Sorry I couldn't make it back here sooner ....

However, I already delete ALL cookies (using the Firefox Delete History function) on a regular basis and it doesn't make any difference.
Guess I'll just put up with it.

But thanks, anyway thumbsup

If you delete all your cookies regularly, you'll delete the cookies that retain your login information. If you want to automatically login, you have to keep the Gameboomers cookies (assuming you can get them sorted out).

The Firefox password manager used to prompt you if you wanted to save your password or not if there was no cookie, but I don't know what this new version does.

It does the same think... I got a prompt. Once I told Firefox to remember the GB cookie, I haven't had to sign in again.

I have always deleted cookies using the "Firefox History" facility - since the year dot - and have NEVER asked for anything to be saved.
So I never understood why any info WAS saved woozy

When I used to arrive at GB, by using Firefox, I'd click to log-in and all I had to do was tick a small box. I didn't have to type anything in.
But if I arrived by using IE I had to type in all boxes.

Now, whether I use Firefox or IE, when I click to log-in I have to type in all boxes.

Obviously it's no great hardship. Just a mystery ....
To a dumbo like me, anyway lol
