I keep going back to this video since its release to marvel at the engineering that's gone into the planning and build of the James Webb Space Telescope.

James Webb Space Telescope Launch and Deployment

I think I may need to take vacation during the two weeks in October of 2018 that it will take to finish its mechanical deployment, not sure how I'll deal with the few weeks after that before it settles into it's final orbit.

Who knows what we'll discover once the data starts flowing back to Earth; so exciting! thumbsup

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

I believe they will be able to view extra-solar planets directly, and see about 100 times further than Hubble. bravo

That is one complex piece of technology! I'm sure the scientists and technicians involved will be holding their collective breaths until each step is completed, especially deployment of those membranes, but what a wonderful tool it will be if successful. I will be following this closely.
