Check out the launch trailer here.

Check out the screens here.

Quote:
Paris, April 19, 2017 – Syberia 3 will be available starting tomorrow – April 20th - in Europe and Tuesday next week in North America on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The last trailer of Syberia’s epic saga new chapter, takes us on Kate Walker's enchanting adventure and outlines her path through the challenges she will face in helping the Youkols complete the great migration of the snow ostriches.

Her journey in the heart of Siberia to accompany these proud animals to their sacred lands, the place of their reproduction, promises to be a true expedition punctuated by situations as unexpected as her encounters with strange characters and trials that will all solicit her mental abilities and events that will shatter her life.

“Kate Walker therefore continues her imaginary wandering like a lost star no longer constrained by its sun. Through this Eastern European landscape sublimely tired by wars and utopias”, declares Benoit Sokal, author and art director of Syberia’s saga.

The enchanting music created by the composer Inon Zur perfectly illustrates the universe imagined by Benoit Sokal and sublime the mysterious atmosphere of this new trailer.

About Syberia 3:
Impersonating Kate Walker, players will benefit from a brand new way to freely explore striking landscapes and circumvent their mysteries and puzzles in ways they have not experienced before.

The story begins when Kate is found left for dead on a shore by the Youkol tribe, a nomadic people caring for their snow ostriches during migration. Trapped, prisoners in the city of Valsembor, they will have to find together a way to continue their journey in a chase against their enemies and unexpected challenges. While at the same time, Kate’s past is catching up with her…

Syberia 3 is developed by Koalabs Studio and will be available April 20 in Europe and April 25 in North America on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC / Mac. It will be fully dubbed in French, English, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish and subtitled in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Czech, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese. The original soundtrack of the game is handled by Inon Zur (Fallout 4, Dragon Age, Prince of Persia), already in command on Syberia 2.

Happy Gaming!

I posted to you in the other thread. lol You are correct. I wrote them to clarify what exactly that means, but not sure if they will answer. I believe Steam will have it available for us. Maybe the rest is retail version? I'm speculating but Steam still says tomorrow.

I'm reading the comments before I do. At the moment, I'm not feeling tempted. No manual saves. Controls designed for consoles. sad

This is as I suspected. While I do admire Syberia 1 and 2, I was not jazzed about Syberia 3, and this information does nothing to make me feel more interested.

I must have missed the part about the "no manual saves" but regardless, I will be waiting for a deep sale. I still have to replay the first two again anyway (along with a million other games). I don't worry so much about reviews when I purchase a game but I really am hoping to read good things about the game from my fellow boomers.

I don't care about "reviews" much because they are usually just one persons experience, but I do pay attention to mechanics. I am unable and/or unwilling to play games with certain features because I don't care how good the story, I need to be able to enjoy the ride. If it's keyboard and can't save at will, it is not going to make for a great experience for me.

This is why I didn't preorder. The lack of responses to my inquiries made me think I wouldn't care for it. I so wanted it to be a just like the first two. What do you not like, Greyfuss?

Ana, my comment was more just about hoping people would like the game after waiting so long and being so excited about it (not as in a review way). I also don't care for certain controls.

Do tell what the UGH is about Greyfuss.

First let me say the the Save system is not at certain points in the game or markers, it seems to save upon exit. There is a Load button and a continue so it may save on every exit and there is a chance to Load from any of those but I haven't tried that yet.

Second...that puzzle we all were talking about in the Demo of how easy it was....its exactly that way in the game.

Controls...UGH... Not point and click or even close. Furthermore you can't use your mouse to steer and program a mouse button to move forward no, total control of Kate is the WASD keys and it may be easier with a controller because you have to use two buttons at times to guide her around objects in the right direction. Also you have to walk up to and be near items, places or people just to get an action curser. There are Dialog tree/choices that can be chosen with a mouse click and you can examine and manipulate Inventory items but to get to the Inventory you have to use the 'I' Key. I am sure that can be programed into the mouse though. There are two modes of play, I am playing Adventure Mode and there is another called Voyage. Maybe I will get into it more but with this type of Controls I am having a hard time getting into any kind of story yet. This game would have been perfect to have the control scheme like the newer Sherlock games or at least have the option to switch. I will plug on but only because the game cost so much. I have been in the game for about an hour and a half and the only challenges I have come across is the controls.

Thanks Greyfuss. While I much prefer point and click, I don't mind WASD keys once I get going. I don't like having to get to up close to things though to interact with them. That usually makes me start feeling ill as in the Sherlock Holmes games.

Don't like that it only saves on exit. I still wonder about the puzzles. Hoping they get more challenging.

I wonder what Voyage mode is.

Thank you for the information and for your opinions, GreyFuss.

Honestly, all my hopes in the adventure game department this year are now pinned on Jonathan Boakes, being as Nancy Drew: Midnight in Salem is still a lost cause. I would mention Carol Reed as well, but a new game in the series was recently released. The good news is that lately I have been reading a lot more.

as I mentioned before Syberia 3 was a NO Buy for me, although in the back of my mind there was still a Smidgen of a chance I might change my mind, after reading all of the above, now is there is Absolutely No Way I am buying this game, really too bad, like many of us, was really looking forward to playing S3.

I know this sounds mean and the Mods might remove this last paragraph, but I really hope the Company falls flat on their face with this one and loose money on it, then maybe they will go back to drawing board and re-configure the game to make it PC/Mouse compatible and this can be done via Patches.

If they don't succeed Starcom, the last thing they will do is pour more money into it. Sorry to say, it is what it is. sad

Hi, my fellow Boomers,
After all the "hype" about this game, it's rather disappointing to read Greyfuss's review so far. Also,I don't even know if my computer can handle the system requirements, the minimum being 4 gigs of Ram. I have 6 gigs on my windows 10 pc, but the game might be 'sluggish" at the very least. With a price tag of $40, I would need to play a Demo first. Has anybody found a playable Demo of this game from a legitimate site?.I've done a search for one, but the sources I've found don't seem to be that credible. (Greyfuss had mentioned a Demo in his post). So much for HAPPY GAMING on THIS one LOL

How very disappointing

But not unexpected considering it was designed for console.
Benoit Sokal has made it clear in various interviews that he's primarily interested in making games for console and not for PC.

Syberia is not the only game series that has been diminished by "consolization" (having sequels developed mainly for console when the original games in the series were made for PC).

Ana is right. They will not turn it into a point-and-click.
If the game fails, they will claim there is no market for adventure games, even though adventure gamers are obviously not the target audience.

The so-called "demo" was only sent to certain game sites to do a preview of the game. You can watch it on YouTube but I doubt you'll find it for download anywhere.

Thanks Jenny,
There is no way that I will consider purchasing this game now.Already it seems to be a "loser" (in my not so humble opinion). I don't even own an X-BOX, or any other controller for that matter. SIERRA, where have you gone? I've been looking at GOG, STEAM, and Zodiac, and I haven't seen ANYTHING resembling a GOOD adventure game that I would purchase.
Sorry for my ranting!
Sandy

There are Let's Plays of Syberia 3 appearing on YouTube that you can watch if you're interested in the story but can't handle the controls (or if your computer doesn't meet requirements).

I don't know what you're looking for or what you've played recently. But maybe you could replay an old favorite like the first Lost Horizon game or Gabriel Knight 2 if you're not seeing any current adventure games that are the type you're interested in.

Right now I would have to question the statement in Adventure Mode "You want to enjoy all the sensations of the first two Syberia games" because with these controls its very hard to get any sensation of the first two games as I have to pay so much attention to the controls which makes it difficult to explore the environment.

For Voyager Mode my guess is, as I am playing Adventure Mode, that maybe there is a Hotspot Highlighter. Maybe I will switch over just to see but I prefer playing without any help. Over 2.5 hours in and so far the conundrums you face are no more than a novice adventure game player could solve and I certainly have to question whoever was the creator who came up with this feat...

One thing different in Syberia 3 is that Kate isn't stuffing her shirt with all kinds inventory items... lol

I get thrown out of the story immersion in games and TV shows/movies with such far fetched actions. My brain immediately catches it and I focus on the ridiculousness of it all. Doesn't sound good to me at all. What a disappointment.

I agree Sheriff

I do have to make one correction to a statement I made earlier about the game saving upon exiting. Today when playing it didn't save on exit as when I loaded the game up a couple times I was not where I had quit in the previous session and I had to play a small portion again. Strange as I was sure it saved on exit every time I played on the first day but maybe it was just a coincidence. The game does save in spots automatically and you know when that happens when a set of gears appear in the top right corner of the screen. I doesn't seem to be a long time in between these markers but if you are lost for what to do and don't hit the save triggers it may take longer.

If this game was made for the consoles first and foremost my question would be: is there a big market for traditional Adventure games on consoles? I would have thought the market would be minimal or at least equal to the PC as it seems the console players would be more into action adventures such as Final Fantasy and games like that. My other question is why they didn't use the method used in the games like Frogwares Sherlock Holmes and Cyans Obduction where there is a happy medium between the consoles and the PC's

It seems to me from what I am reading, it doesn't work well with controller or keyboard so who does it appeal to? If they were hoping to gain a bigger audience, I don't think they went about it the right way.

True Dat....Does that make me sound like a young hipster? snicker

I have progressed somewhat far and have 6 hours in. Getting a little more use to using the controls but still don't like it. I don't bang into things or go in circles as much but it still happens regularly. I think the biggest problem I have is the camera angle. For example i am guiding Kate from behind down a street, I turn left into an alley using both the 'W' (forward) and the 'A' Key (left. Once I am in the alley the camera view changes to in front of Kate where she should be walking towards the camera but I still have the 'W' and/or 'A' key pressed which immediately turns her around to her right and and either walks into a wall or walks away. This may also happen with a controller. The story is getting better and it is what drives me to slog on.

No, but they think the market will be the combination of adventure gamers and console gamers when it's actually something less than the intersection of the two groups. As Ana pointed out, even the gamepad controls aren't ideal. It's insulting -- they think that adventure gamers will buy anything with the name Syberia on it, and they think console gamers will buy anything that can be played on a console.

Look at the previous games made by Koalalabs -- Dracula 4 and 5 (fairly easy and as much casual games as adventure games) and a few casualized ports of PC games to IOS/Android/Mac.
http://www.koalabs-studio.com/games/
If you're familiar with the PC originals and have played any of these ports, you know how many puzzles and hotspots were removed from the ports. They're advertised as "optimized for IOS" but that's BS-speak for "we cut out all the parts that couldn't be easily plugged into our prefab game engine."

It always surprises me and I was again thinking this as I play Syberia 3, don't they have real Adventure Game Players and real Console Game players test these games during Beta? I don't mean in house players or family and friends but actual players to give unbiased feedback. These control issues would have been addressed a long time ago if they had I would think.

The killer for me is not being able to use the mouse for camera angle and the WASD keys for movement. Using WASD for all movement is awkward and imprecise. Will definitely NOT be ponying up my money for this game.

I think the strongest clue I've got from reading this thread so far is that any play testing with 'actual players' will give an awful lot of VERY BIASED feedback.

The controls in Syberia 3 are very like Grim Fandango; i.e. what's called tank controls. And nobody gives that game a hard time for it!

Although, I must admit, I miss the simplicity of point & click controls in a PC game, no matter what Benoit Sokal might think.

I hear ya...do you think that because this game is third person is why that type of control wont work well and that it was more suited for first person? That was crossing my mind as I played today.

@Gremlin

LOL...I hated Grim Fandango! Couldn't get past an hour or two it was that bad for me. lol

If thats what you call Biased Testing then thats exactly what they need from the real people that would be playing the games and not those employees, creators or programmers that have a vested interest or their family and friends who may not give the proper criticism so as not to hurt anyone's feelings. Thats all I'm sayin.

I do testing for one of the adv companies and I can tell you that there is a lot of valuable information from the testers that generates changes to the game before release... LOTS!!! and the games are better for this.

I will not believe anything negative about Syberia 3, I am certain it is great and I look forward to playing it. I don't buy games for the PS4 anymore because the resolution is normal HD. Much better on the Mac or PC in very high definition. And I can still use the controller of the PS4 to play on PC. So for me the WASD is not an issue. People should consider buying a controller to use with their PC, maybe the Steam one, but I have not tried it. It might be easier and more compatible to buy a XBox controller for the PC, since it is Microsoft. They are all very much compatible with any new game, and then, no more WASD headache. I'm sure there are lots of used ones for sale on eBay.

I want a point and click game I can play with a mouse. I do not like controllers and if that's what they want to do, they will do it without me. My money will go to something else.

I agree with you 100% on your comment regarding mouse vs controllers or joystick, why in the HellO would I want to buy a controller or gamepad for one maybe 2 games, nope and as BrownEyedTiger said, I will also put my Hard Earned Cash elsewhere.

I second that "emotion", Starcom. There are enough "playable" games out there, including (in my case) many boxed games still on my shelves that I'd like to replay, two of my favorites being S1 and S2, which I recently DID play again (with your help). I just started to play "Vampyre Story" again, and it's working perfectly on my WIN 10 PC (in spite of what I read in the "Windows 10 and Games" posting.

I understand your disappointment with the controls in the new Syberia game, which we all expected so much from. For an oldtimer like myself that is, however, not the major concern. Keyboard controls is not new for those of us, who actually played games like Maniac Mansion way back in the past. I would certainly prefer a mouse driven adventure game today, but you can very well play it with a keyboard only, if you are not rushed to do things.

So, my question to GreyFuss and other players is, do you have to do any keyboard dexterity, like mini games, fast action etc. ?

Read the reviews on Steam. THey all say the the same thing over and over. It isn't the fact you need to use the keyboard or controller, it's the fact that it's still not controllable. If people used to controllers are having a hard time, I sure will be!

What BET and Starcom said...

That's a good point about the camera angle and first or third person, Greyfuss... Although I'm sure I've played third person games where the mouse controlled camera angle - just can't think of any right now.

I'm so disappointed! Syberia is one of my all-time fave games and I've been looking forward to the new one, but, between the controls and the specs, I doubt I will be able to play it. I guess I will just watch a play-through of the game on YouTube so I can at least see what happens in the game.
It's getting so much harder to find good point and click adventure games anymore.......guess most people like the violence and killing games, otherwise there wouldn't be so many of those now. I have nothing against those types of games, I just don't enjoy them. I play games to relax and explore and take my time wandering around. Maybe I'm just becoming a "dinosaur"......lol.

Over 9 hours in and I am enjoying the story and so far did come across a nice puzzle type conundrum. So much of this game reminds and looks like the originals, sure would have been perfect if one could simply double click where you wanted to go on the screen and Kate would run there. In the portion of the game I am in now there has been a lot of walking around and my fingers on my left hand go asleep on me holding and using two keys at a time. I have discovered that the two biggest annoyances I have with the controls Is the sudden change in the camera view and the fact that Kate always takes a couple steps after you let go of a key. These two annoyances were quite evident in one part where I had Kate go up some stairs using the 'W' key (up) with the camera view from behind her and immediately when she reached the top of the stairs the camera view switched to in front of her where the 'W' key (up) now made her turn and walk down the stairs.. I laughed out loud as this happened several times and I couldn't get her to stay at the top of the stairs because she wouldn't stop as soon as I let go of the key. I eventually had to time it by letting go of the 'W' key before she reached the top as she then took two steps more on her own which now gave me time to switch to the 'S' Key (down) to continue to walk down the same street. Other than the controls I am enjoying the ride.

I am suddenly ambivalent. Like most of you, I've been anxious to get and play this game because I loved the other two. I went to Steam tonight intending to buy it, but I read all (Well...several) of the reviews posted and some are pretty scathing. None are unconditionally positive. Now I'm not at all sure if I wish to play it. You who have it please keep commenting. Many of us will be checking your comments.

I might try it when it is on sale, but I'm thinking $40 is too much for something which doesn't sound like a game I could enjoy.

Wow, and to think I ordered the game from Amazon and should get it in the next few days.

I was planning on using the latest Syberia game to help me break away from, let's just say, other type games that have become my main course of playing. I still think I will stop with those particular games as I have some adventure games backed up that I haven't played yet.

In any event, I do happen to have a few controllers and will see which one works the best with Syberia 3.

If I think I can provide any pertinent input after playing the game I will post.

Good luck to all and let's hope Microids makes changes to make the game more enjoyable.

Supposedly they are working on a patch to make the controls better for both PC and controllers.

I'm dubious about how much they can do to improve the keyboard controls.
Going by what GreyFuss posted earlier, the game is using camera-relative control, and camera-relative control isn't easily changeable to character-relative control.

If the game had been using character-relative control, Kate would have kept moving forward up the stairs and proceeding forward, no matter which way the camera flipped around. She would not have turned around and gone back downstairs. In order to move her to the right side of the screen, you'd have to tap the D key (or right arrow key) until she turned and use the W key (or up arrow) to move. Alternatively many PC games allow you to steer with the mouse and use the A and D keys for strafing. Character-relative controls also often allow mapping the W key to a mouse button. Character-relative controls are better for keyboard and keyboard/mouse control.

Follow-cam (aka over-the-shoulder) may be considered a type of 3rd person because you see your character on the screen, but actually has more in common with 1st person. With follow-cam, you're always behind your character and controls are always character-relative, just as with 1st person. In contrast, in the more common "3rd person" view in adventure games, you might be viewing your character from the front, the side, the back, at an angle, etc., but mostly you're not behind him. Not many adventure games use follow-cam, but Uru and Talos Principle had it as an option and Dreamfall used it (though Dreamfall had an issue with the turning axis being in the wrong place, making it more confusing to control with keyboard than the countless keyboard-controlled RPG's and action games that "Darkside" gamers may have played).

With camera-relative control, the direction your character is moving changes when the camera flips around, and you can end up in a loop going back and forth through a door or going up and down stairs. The D key always means go to the right side of the screen. So if the camera flips and the right side of the screen changes 180 degrees from what it was before, you'll be going back and forth forever. Similarly the A key always means go to the left side of the screen, the W key means go toward the back of the screen, and the S key means go toward the front of the screen, and a 180 degree screen flip will send you back and forth forever.

Camera-relative control works fairly well with a gamepad because you're pushing a thumbstick in the direction you want the character to move. This is not so easy with keyboard keys.

In contrast, Character-relative control doesn't work so well with a gamepad because of the difficulty of getting the character to run in a straight line. Unless you are VERY good with the gamepad thumbstick, the character ends up running in arcs, veering slightly left or right because of the difficulty of pushing the thumbstick exactly upward.

The first adventure game I played with camera-relative control was Broken Sword 3 (BS3), and I had a terrible time controlling it, mostly because I was used to character-relative keyboard controls (the norm for keyboard-controlled and keyboard/mouse-controlled PC games back then) and my reflexes were all wrong for camera-relative. However one thing the developer (Revolution) did was to prevent the character from suddenly changing direction when the camera flipped around. For as long as you continued to hold the key down, he'd continue running in the same direction as before the camera flipped. This still wasn't ideal for people with shaky hands, but at least Revolution recognized there was a problem and as long as your hands were steady you wouldn't suddenly reverse direction or run off at some weird angle when the camera flipped.

Grim Fandango used character-relative control. It was still a bit confusing because it wasn't follow-cam, and when Manny was facing you, his right would be your left, etc. But it wasn't that hard for me to keep track of. Nowhere near as hard for me as BS3. People may have problems with keyboard control in both Grim Fandango and Syberia 3, but the two control schemes are definitely not the same.

Many years ago, around the time BS3 was released, I remember some guy posting to the adventure newsgroup to complain about the camera-relative keyboard controls in BS3. He said he had to relearn all his keyboard reflexes in order to play it, and then after he finished BS3, he had to unlearn his BS3 reflexes and relearn his normal keyboard reflexes all over again in order to play all his other games. Apparently all his other games used character-relative control.

I'm a few hours into the game and enjoy it so far. The really good thing is the way Sokal's Syberia universe comes to life in 3D and the story is promising. I'm hooked and will definitely see this one til the end. The rest is not very good though. Bad controls (and i'm using a controller), a very limited camera, some sound issues with missing lines of dialogue (compared with the subtitles), a mediocre, albeit functional, technical quality of the graphics, a "casual feel" to some scenes where you get a static close-up view of half a room and you object is to rummage around to find the odd object, a couple of contrived and silly puzzles so far and one instance of the game freezing completely. The auto-save took me right back to the point where it froze though.

Simply a rather unpolished game with production values that are not on the triple A level that the price would suggest. But again, I really enjoy it.:)

Having read the customers views on Steam they have reinforced my doubts for this long awaited sequel. How many times have experiments with 3d graphics produced
so many problems for the players.
I’ll say no more, but read the reviews before shelling out your 40$

Wow, I am completely surprised by the feedback, I have been waiting for Syberia 3 for so long I was pretty much certain I would buy the Collector's Edition of the game. But judging by the feedback I will save my money for another game then. Unfortunately, it seems another game has caught the extreme consolidis virus where developers only care about consoles and pc is the black sheep. Even the €15 cd key looks like too expensive for me now. So much for point and click, more like wasd and push. smirk smirk

A lot depends on what you're used to, and how fast you can adapt (or if you can adapt). If you've watched any of the YouTube videos about the backwards-steering bicycle like this one...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFzDaBzBlL0
The situation is similar with keyboard controls, though you're less apt to fall on the floor using a keyboard than you are riding a backwards-steering bike. But you still develop different reflexes for character-relative vs camera-relative control and do all sorts of things to compensate for direction without thinking. Then when suddenly confronted with the "other" control scheme, you can't adapt -- at least not quickly -- and instead of correcting for minor deviations in intended direction, you make them even worse. It's probably worse for people who've mastered character-relative controls than it is for people who've never used keyboard controls before.

If you're able to use a gamepad, you can use the gamepad for games with camera-relative controls and use the keyboard for games with character-relative controls, and the control systems are different enough that you can develop reflexes for both that don't contradict each other.

But not everyone can use a gamepad, even if they're willing to invest in one.
No one with bad thumb joints (or clumsier-than-normal thumbs) will be able to use a gamepad.

I agree with you here smile

The reason I do this is because I can just as easily use the wsad keys for movement and the mouse for movement ass well. The only thing I will have much trouble with is if the camere in the game is not fixed, but bobbing (sp?) up and down. I wil then motion sickness very fast - and this is enough for me to never finish the game. Evem though it seems to be very great game.

I have played Morrowind and Oblivion and the Star Wars games made by Bioware and Obsidian without any problems - all these games have you use the wsad keys for movement. If you have played the (very) old might and magic games (1-7) you would have gotten used to do movement in these games by using the wsad keys.

I'm also having trouble with this:

When the developers (or publishers or both) thinks they need sort of middle ground between the wsad keys and the mouse for movements, it really ends up annoying both groups - let's call them pc players and console players for now.
[The Longest Journey: Dreamfall - I'm looking at you! and DA: Inquisition I'm also partly looking at you!] In these games, the pc controls didn't work properly and even some console players complained about the terrible controls.

I haven't yet played Syberia 3 as of now but from I have seen so from the trailer I have this to say:

Don't know about the controls, but the visuals look like they lack or are short of a few textures, the voice acting seem terrible, and is it really so that Kate's voice isn't the original voice from the first two Syberia games...

Adventure gaming is fun smile

The original English speaking voice actor from the first Syberia'a are the same one used in Syberia 3.

Besides having looked forward to playing this game since I finished Syberia II almost 13 years ago, I was actually eager to try it with my Xbox 360 controller. I've recently used the controller with very satisfying results for the excellent games Firewatch and Gone Home (which I, by the way, recommend to everyone). However, only a third of the commands work with the controller. I can move around, and bring up the menu (with the wrong button, I might add). The buttons for dialogue, inventory items, etc. are simply dead.

I've spent a few hours trying to get around this, and/or fix it somehow, but no such luck. I tried to use the keyboard/mouse instead, and it works as it's supposed to. But this is not a game made for keyboard/mouse control. That would be like using a joystick for Microsoft Word.

I will wait for the patch now, and see what it does. Many more things should be impoved:

The cursor icon that is hardly visible.

The inventory is clunky and ineffective.

The game only saves at checkpoints.

No manual graphics optimization, which is bad news for players that don't have top notch computers.

Dialogues can't be bypassed. This is crucial when portions have to be replayed due to the save system.

I hate to be so critical, but these things have to be said. I'm sure that the game is excellent, but we can't let it be destroyed by an interface that might be the buggiest ever.

DRAT! These are exactly the kinds of reactions that were written when Still Life II was released. The comments were correct and after two rather good games (Post Mortem and Still Life) they messed things up and killed the series. Why make two beautiful and brilliant games and then change the concept so completely? Ah well, I'm sure there was a sound business reason for it.

The reviews are not kind I've been looking around to see what is being said because I really wanted this game. The comments here caused a bit of pause and this review re-enforced people's concerns.
Review
This did not read like one of those reviews written by someone who does not like Adventure games.
Deciding not to buy I watched a complete play through on You Tube something I normally would not do. When finished I knew I made the right choice If you are considering buying this game read the review but whatever you do don't watch a complete play through on you tube. I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag and you really don't want to know. That's why I brought it up, don't watch the play through

Being what is probably halfway through the game I can say that the review is pretty much spot on, maybe even a little too kind on the control/camera issue.

I am the same GBC.
This is all soooo disappointing. Like many, I was hoping it would be like the first two. I love third person P&C which was what I was expecting from this. I will NOT be purchasing it. I may be a dinosaur but, sorry, that is the sort of game I like. Added to which it seems VERY expensive.
If you're going to try and sell a game based on the success of previous games in the series, then that, surely is your target market. Why mess with it?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows when or if there is to be a Syberia 3 walkthrough any time soon? I am looking forward to the delivery of the above (I hope, as not sure it's the right one, as the walkthrough that I found wasn't Syberia 3 but the third part of Syberia two)! The art work and clips are all correct, but the walkthrough was not. Be good if you have info on such. thanks.

As I probably won't get the game due to all the negative reviews I will propbably go to the gameplay walkthrough so I can at least see the game without the frustrations. Just one question, What is the matter with the gameplay walkthrough that Oldmariner said not to use under any circumstances.

Barry

I also loved The first two Syberia games. I doubt I will buy this one because I am not a fan of keyboard controls (although one had to use them a lot for Tex Murphy games). I think it's only natural that the developers went in the direction of making the games more for XBOX and PlayStation simply because that is where the money is now. and younger people are practically born with an XBOX controller in their hand now.
I think the deal breaker for me will be the auto-save. I detest games that only save when the developers think it should save. As Mikael mentioned above, having to replay parts of a game simply because one can't save is rather ridiculous.
At any rate, I hope the developers are able to satisfy enough of the people who waited a long time for game, as well as attract a younger, new audience.

OMG! I only wanted info on the likelihood of getting a walkthrough. I find so many people venting thier spleen about Syberia 3! I do have a "games" computer that works with Terybites, so was looking forward to my new game in a couple of days. Played the first two on XP no probs at all. I also played All the broken sword games on XP no probs there either. I do not even own a joystick so please tell me what I have spent £16.99 on? Will I not be able to play the game. I can't go forward on a bicycle, never mind backwards! Oh woe, woe, and thrice times woe! Helllllpppp!

Probably because if you intend to play it yourself, the YouTube playthrough is a spoiler. If you don't intend to play it anyway, that's not an issue.

This did not read like one of those reviews written by someone who does not like Adventure games.

That review makes it sound unfinished. From what I've read, a lot of modern games have this problem on release. They're released in an unfinished state and depend on a succession of patches shortly after release before they're actually playable. Some new games aren't playable at all except in the console versions (as with No Man's Sky). Gamers with PC versions have to wait for patches. It's one more unfortunate result of combining a PC release with a console release and depending on subsequent downloads to fix issues on PC instead of releasing a game that's finished.

Benoit Sokal has always insisted that if he did a sequel to Syberia, it would have to be on console. He wanted to do it on PS3 when that was current, but it was over 10 years before he got backing for developing a Syberia sequel and PS4 and XBox One are now the current consoles.
Syberia 1 and 2 were developed by Microids Canada, which went bankrupt due to non-payment by certain publishers. Syberia 3 is developed by Koalalabs, a much newer development company that developed Dracula 4 and 5 and has no relationship to Microids Canada.

If you managed to play Broken Sword 3 without a problem you may be able to cope with the controls in Syberia 3 even though they're not ideal. Even Steam is currently only advertising "partial controller support." Since you already bought the game, why don't you try it and see?

Wow, I, too, am only looking for a WRITTEN walkthrough for Syberia 3. I have played the first two many times and love them.
Any chance that a written walkthrough will become available. I've found a partial one, but I despise partial (incomplete) walkthroughs.

First let me say that even though I don't like any Auto-Save feature in an Adventure game this one is tolerable as for me the triggered spots are not far between like some games where you have to replay a large portion of the game to get back to the same spot.

I am 20 plus hours in and besides the controls and the sometimes black loading screens (15 to 30 plus seconds) which I don't know if its my computer or the game, I quite like it. I believe what we enjoyed so much of the first 2 games was the total immersion one felt into the story and game. This is what is missing so much in this game is losing oneself into the game world because the control system and the loading screens keep disturbing your total attention. So far I like the story and its so nice to here Kates voice again so after coming to grips with the controls and knowing I can't do anything about that, I am having fun.

Buuuut...right now I am in a game stopping glitch that I had to check the Steam Discussions, which I don't like to do, and see if its just me or others have experienced the same. Apparently it is happening to many players and supposedly a fix is being worked on, I think. At this certain part of the game Kate will not walk up or down stairs. After many reboots of the Steam software and a recent Steam update I was able to walk down the stairs I had trouble with before..............however, now I can't return up the same set of stairs and without being able to return I have no where to go....I think lol

Thank you all for letting me know what it is all about. At least I understand what is going on. I have already bought it, so I will indeed at least give it a go. I am sure my computer is strong enough to take on the game but I will not be able to work out patches etc! I may leave it till a written walkthrough may be available. I like to play without help but if I am very stuck I use the walkthrough to get past that point. I am jealous of you that are already playing the game but can't see me getting through it on my own this time. (Sob)

Any patches are automatically installed by Steam so you don't have anything to do there. And don't worry about a Walkthrough as the game isn't very difficult, no more that the first 2 games.

Really looking forward to this, as many others are. Even went back & redid 1 & 2...
A request: if anyone does see a written w/t, as other(s) have requested, please post a thread/link (assuning that's ok with our moderators). I find 'most' videos not enjoyable..it's rare to find somebody who does gice good commentary, for one, and seeing the result beforehand takes away some from the enjoyment of the reveal. Thanks!

Sadly I am dead in the water. After the last Steam update I managed to get down the steps that had me stuck in the Post a few above. I managed to go down the stairs, completed retrieving an item down there and now I am unable to go back up the stairs that I came down by which is the only way out. And as luck would have it, the game automatically saved after I retrieved the item down there so a re-load puts me in the same place and problem. I have tried all day with different attempts and angles to the steps and different resolutions. Again there are many others in the same boat. Hopefully they can fix this snafu because unfortunately I won't be starting over and suffering through all the controls again just to end up here again after 20 plus hours. Bummer as I was finally enjoying the game. smirk

And THAT is what is wrong with auto saves only. Sheesh! After 20 plus hours I hope they fix the problem soon GreyFuss and you can move on.

I am sorry to hear that Greyfuss. And i agree about the saves. You can make backups of your save folder periodically next time so that you have something to fall back on. The saves are located here: AppData/LocalLow/Microids/Syberia3

I was going to get an xbox controller but based on Mikael's comments and the Steam notification, I may well not bother.

Thanks Sheriff
Is that the full path of where the saves are. I can't seem to find that on my computer even using the search. Maybe its because its been so long since I have been inside the file system I have forgotten how to do it or maybe its just age. smirk I will Post over on Glitches for som help. I was thinking of backing up that save and uninstalling the game and trying a fresh install to see if that helps

Sorry if I don’t mean to offend anyone but I treat buying a computer game is the same as buying any other product i.e. I expect it to work. If they had decided to produce this game for an Xbox and not a PC they should have made that fact abundantly clear at the launch, or better still before.
By and large adventure gamers’ are not a picky bunch; we have all struggled with gameplay problems and coping with bugs but surely there is a limit.
After years of patiently waiting with many false dawns, gamers are now shelling out 40$ for a product that for most is unplayable. If we don’t take the gloves off and make it loud and clear that this is not acceptable, then the future is grim. Would anyone buy a car with the stirring wheel as an optional extra?

I've played for 6 hours and still can't get used to selecting and using inventory items but for some reason I don't mind the keyboard controls. Broken Sword 3 is one of my favourites,so maybe I'm sort of used to it. I notice that sometimes I use arrow keys, cos I'm right handed, instead of WASD but either is fine with me. Had to run a program to raise gamma within the game. Using 'full graphics' but found early locations too dark. The story and environments have me hooked. My loading screens are around 5 to 7 seconds, no glitches so far. I'm just loving the game smile

Yes the Inventory system is clumsy at best and eventually you will get use to the clumsiness. The loading screens seem to get longer as you progress in the game, at least they are for me. On another note, uninstalling and re-installing the game did not correct the problem I have and will most likely be Dead In The Water until a Patch (hopefully) can be made by the developers. I hope it doesn't take too long as I may lose interest or forget the story.

I don't mind using WASD as long as I can steer with the mouse. So I guess I'll wait until the patch comes out & the games price becomes reasonable.

According to a Steam Member's Post, on the Microids Facebook page they have stated that updates should be seen in the next 24 hours. I don't know for sure if this is real or, if it is, when it was posted. I am not on FaceBook so maybe someone here that is could verify this and tell us when the message was posted.

All those changes in addition to all the Updates earlier this morning Wow. Well, at least they are busy trying but I fear that the reputation may be tarnished. I don't understand, with so many changes they needed, a lot of these weren't discovered in Alpha and Beta testing. Makes one think they didn't have that and the fact that they weren't answering any questions before release and no review copies given out early that they knew this might happen. At any rate maybe this will get some more players to give the game a try.

Unfortunately it's very common these days, they just release the game and let us find the bugs and glitches. I mean how much testing did they do that they have to fix 50 bugs and glitches within the very first days after release. The worst thing is Day 1 patches. Seriously? mad

Day 1 patches is like saying to the buyers "We didn't test our game properly or thoroughly, we released it as it was untested and probably unfinished, and we started testing for bugs after the game went gold and for printing. Here is a Day 1 patch with all the bug fixes we couldn't be bothered to test and find before release".

You bring up a good point Butcher and this theory comes to mind. Since "Going Gold" is no longer a relevant term because Publishers no longer put PC games on Disk. Going Gold meant that the Publisher is finally printing a 'polished' game to disk that has been thoroughly tested so they can release the finished game to the public, let the profits roll in and be done with it and move on to the next project. With most all Adventure games now being released in download format only (even the disks are downloads) where patching is easily done maybe releasing games before the polish will become the norm from now on where the Developer no longer has to be proactive in searching for bugs and glitches but reactive upon early release. Maybe even Steam encourages this type of player Beta testing to the Developers. This was evident with Barrow Hill: The Dark Path to a lesser extent and now Syberia 3 which went over the top. Maybe it is cheaper and less time consuming for a developer to get the game out there fast and just have a team in place on release day to start looking at comments and addressing them then. Mind you, I am in no way trying to make excuses for the Developers/Publishers nor do I like this method but maybe there is some truth to some of this. If this theory is the case then I would rather they advertise as such because all the negative feedback that both Barrow Hill: The Dark Path and Syberia 3 get right out of the gate has to cut into the profits.

Disclaimer:
Just my thoughts and is only based in my head and not based on any proof or that I even have a brain crazy

BTW: the last game Update/Patches has worked perfectly and I am well on my way. 25 plus hours in and I am faced with the first very challenging puzzle.

If you are right, and it seems feasible, then it’s very close to being a customer relationship disaster. Why, put a product on the open market when it is known to the developers that it is not of merchantable quality. We are not asking for the moon, in fact Gamebomers bends over backwards to support the developers but it seems now, when we have to deal with the Steam monopoly for Adventure games, we have little choice but to except what we are given.

The German developers, Daedalic Entertainment and King Art Games can and do present their games ready to play and don’t weld on features in an effort to persuade a different audience to buy them. That’s been done before and dropped, because it’s never worked.

When a developer puts a game on the market when knowing it has a design fault, then personally I have no sympathy for them.

Cari; I, indeed most of us, would agree, but this is not a normal situation. They were dealing with a long sought after game based on two much loved previous games. They had a huge marketing edge anyway. As long as the patch or patches fix the problems, most of us can live with the initial inconvenience. We probably should be more irritated than we are, but if the game finally runs well and plays smoothly, there will be cries for "Syberia 4" on this site in about six months. Maybe downloaded games and and post-purchase repairs have become the norm. Maybe that's OK.

If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

Straying from this game, but agreeing with the release of games and letting the players beta test them, Barrow Hill, The Dark Path comes to mind. I don't mind alpha or beta testing games - I've recently spent a lot of time doing that with two new games - but I DON'T like having paid full price for the game just to be a beta tester.

Question to GreyFuss if you don't mind. Since it seems you have been playing the game longer than other members, I read from another forum that you have to be connected to the Internet while playing the game, this person said that if you are dis-connected from the Internet for a long time and tried to play the game it would not work. Q. Is this true? Have you tried playing the game for a long period of time while your Internet is off?
Or is this person just trying to add more bad publicity to S3.

I also forgot to ask and this question is for all:
I also read from the Steam Forum that in the recently released patch they removed the Denovo? Patch, is this true? Or this just a person's wishful thinking.

Caz

There's a disc, but the game isn't on it.
Only an installer for Steam.
I'm sure that's not what people expected when they bought what they thought was the game on DVD.

Navigation with gamepad controller now works 100 percent. Other than that, most major issues still remain.

An interesting article for those playing or trying to play Siberia 3, and found an improvement. DRM has been 'patched out' apparently.

These disks have been around for some time now, all they contain is code for the game distributed from Steam. While some disks tell the buyer what they contain others don’t. The days when you could buy a disk pop it into you’re PC and away you go are over, it’s called ‘progress’

Not having bought Syberia 3, I have little idea if it is the game we have all been waiting for or not, but reading all the players comments on Steam, most say that, apart from the game play problems, that its not. But it’s up to everyone to make their own minds up before buying.

As for me, if I buy a shirt, I don’t expect to have to sew the buttons on myself.

Dianne, your question was answered in this thread. Yes, it is windows 10, yes, the disk is a Steam installer, not the game.

Obi, there are lots of comments from players on this thread. Our official review is not yet posted.

Thank you, GreyFuss for your opinion of the game.

Appreciated !! thumbsup

It truly served to re-inforce my decision not to buy it.

There are just too many poor qualities to it - on TOP of it being a costly Steam Only release sad

I have two questions on the Syberia III release:

Would I be able to play it on my Intel 4600 HD Graphics card at 1.7 GB memory? The system requirements on Steam say 2 GB is needed.

If you buy it from Steam, can you just download patches without limit whenever they are published, or do you have to confirm your registration, pay for some upgrades etc? Are version numbers listed in any way to clarify what release you have, and what the relevant patches are?

Best,

Rich

It lists 2 GB for the "Recommended" video memory, so the game might work with 1.7 GB.
But there can still be a problem with the rest of the card not supporting features an R7 260X does support, or simply being too slow.

The Steam client automatically patches your game to the latest version. You don't get to choose which patch you want to use, and you don't get to save the individual patches separately.

Hi Jenny! smile

Thanks as ever!

Well, the Steam site does list 2 GB also as minimum memory for the Nvidia card, and the AMD R7 260X, which also has 2 GB, so I'm not too sure ....

I do have 8 GB RAM system memory, but if that can compensate for the lack of video storage?

So I wonder if I can take the risk.

So this Steam client remains active on your PC to apply more recent patches even after you've bought and downloaded the game from Steam?

Best,

Rich

You're right. I didn't see the 2 GB under Minimum the first time I looked.

In some cases it can, but not always. Depends on the game.

Yes the Steam client will keep your games fully patched.

You can use the Steam client in "offline mode"
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-agcb-2555
but there are some "gotchas" with using "offline mode" and updates -- especially if you have a slow connection and more than one Steam game

Most of the pre-installed graphics especially in the older PCs are not adequate to run this game. The minimum is 2GB and probably 3GB or higher to be on the safe side. The cost of updating graphic cards is usually much higher than the cost of the game plus the cost of installing the card if you don’t have a friend who will do it for you.
Please, please be careful before deciding to buy, you shouldn’t need a gaming card to play adventure games and not many of us are into action games and shooting ups.

And most older PCs cannot be upgraded anyway... they usually come with grossly inadequate power supplies which would also need to be replaced. Gamers are demanding better and better graphics experiences, so the developers are upping the hardware requirements. Even the last Nancy Drew games needed a stand-alone video card.

Yes, a good point which I never mentioned. Syberia 1 and 2 had graphics more than pleasing to me, I was playing a good game not watching a movie.

the game also does not run well with a mouse and keyboard, controller is recommended. however steam big picture claims its not designed for a controller so work that one out. I found I needed both to get through the game.
the game also is described as a technical Disaster. I have played right through all the bugs and almost finished and now found I have left the something behind half way during the game so I cannot continue or go back as it has a stupid auto save. you cannot close the game until the wheels icon shows at the top right of the screen.
Backup your game file.

Exactly, not everyone needs all this overhyped frenetic full HD split-second realtime 3D action, unless you're into first-person shooters, I suppose. It's really idiotic when this becomes the standard to give your game any in-crowd and commercial credibility at all, which for us poor end-users boils down to having to dump all of our expensive hardware and software every two years or so.

Which is indeed what the computer industry appears to be demanding of us!

Rich

If anyone still wants Syberia 3, and wants it now, JA+/digitaldownload.com is currently selling it for 25% off -- $29.99 instead of $39.99.
https://www.digitaldownload.com/syberia-3.html

The JA+ version will still have to go through Steam, and if you're OK with waiting, there will probably be better sales. But if you're OK with using a gamepad and don't want to wait any longer, it seems to be playable now according to Mikael.

Backup your game file.

Sounds like they still have some work to do with patching.
An autosave which saves over previous saves is a terrible idea.

I have been enjoying the story, it's seems to be a very long game or either it takes a long time due to all the problems. the patch they released didn't seem to fix much but I would have to start the game again to see the full changes. I really can't believe they could put a game out in this state.walking up stairs and you start to walk inside the stair instead of on top, walking up the stairs using a arrow key and then next minute you are walking back down again. such a shame since we have waiting for so long to continue syberia.
I have to agree with a comment on steam forum......we want to thank the beta testers....lol

Unfortunately, I bought Syberia 3 BEFORE doing any research. I was just so excited to play Syberia again. What a deeply disappointing game after such a very long wait. There were so many glitches, and using the controls on my PC were maddening.
To make matters worse, I was well into the 2nd or 3rd chapter when I could no longer launch the game. I was NOT going to try to uninstall and re-install and begin again so I ended up watching the video walkthrough of the game and uninstalled the game on my computer.

I am now replaying the original Syberia and what a point and click joy it is. Sometimes you just have to leave a good thing alone!

A tragic end to the Syberia games - no way is anyone going to invest in Syberia 4 to resolve the cliff-hanger.

And the cliffhanger is a good reason to wait for a Syberia 4 before buying Syberia 3.

I especially hate them when there is no follow-up game to resolve the cliff hanger - A Vampyre Story is my most disappointing cliff hanger.

They are working on ironing out legal issues to get rights to continue it.

Really?! That's good news... I knew there were some attempts to work on it, but I thought they had given up long ago.

Thank you for that news, BrownEyedTigre happydance

I bought the game as soon as it was released but refrained from playing it once I learned it didn't have a proper ending. And it still sits on my notorious "unplayed" stack shocked

So, I might one day be able to play "a whole Vampyre Story" after all.

Yahoo !! bravo

Oh, Mad, don't wait to play it! The ending does not spoil the game at all. The first play through is well worth it!

It's one of the games I have that I haven't played yet either, but not because of the ending. I didn't know that at the time. At least if you know a game ends with a cliffhanger, you can make it your choice to play it or not. If you go into it knowing that, it may not be so bad (I guess). I got really, really ticked off when I played the 2nd Runaway game and found it had no ending. Wasted a lot of my sister's time as she played it with me and didn't have the time to waste!

Thanks, Draclvr, I'll think about it grin

I remember in the dim and distant past, after Simon the Sorcerer 2 had been released, playing it all the way through only to discover a cliff-hanger ending hardwall

I was SO mad !!!!

In those days I could telephone the developers and chat to one of them (what bliss !!) so I got on the phone and did my rant laugh

The developer wasn't at ALL bothered of course and said I would just have to wait for Simon 3 taz

"Oh, and what if I refuse to buy it .... on principle .... I asked".
"Well then you'll never find out .... came the reply as he laughed his head off".

I "told him off" at that but he was so cheeky and funny with it that I had to laugh myself, too, in the end hamster

[In those days I could phone and speak to other developers too - including Revolution - and it was great :D]

I've been watching this Let's Play and really enjoying it - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3AISiWybyWdjUT_EqNic4xtreYWi8QMe. Granted, it's definitely not on the level of the first two Syberias, but I'm having fun with the story, and I'm enjoying this guy's reactions to all the glitches and stair climbing issues. lol He seems to be enjoying the game in spite of this. He has also played through the first two games and has really enjoyed them both.

I won't be purchasing the game myself until the price comes down because I do think it's a bit too expensive for what it is. If it were on the level of Dreamfall Chapters, which unlike some posters here, I believe is an exceptional game and happens to be my new favorite(wink), I would have purchased it and played it already. From what I've seen, I consider it a very good game with some issues, while the first two were excellent. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to purchase it, the bugs will finally be ironed out.

Ana, that's fantastic news about A Vampyre Story! Hopefully, they'll be able to make it happen, and we'll finally see that cliffhanger resolved. woot Personally, I don't mind playing games with cliffhangers even if they are never resolved, as it's better than missing out on something I'd really enjoy. However, I do wish developers wouldn't use them unless they were pretty certain another installment would be made. The only cliffhangers I actually like are Dreamfall's (yes, I know I'm most likely alone in this, but I like the epic nature of the ending, even it it is tragic) and Gabriel Knight 3's, mostly because I don't consider it a cliffhanger, just a sad and appropriate ending after what the characters had gone through.

I was one of the suckers that bought the disc from Amazon. I don't think it is on the disc. I wondered if there was a game manual anywhere for the PC. It took me quite a while to figure out how to use the inventory, etc. If it is on the disc I can't find it.

Disgruntled Mr. Bill

There are 2 options in the, well, Options menu that cause the inventory to be used differently although not sure how.
The inventory really is atrocious.
All over the place.

And, no, the game is not on the disc. All you got there was a disc with a Steam key.

Is there a particular question you are looking for an answer on Mr Bill? It is not a very good idea they used for the Inventory as it is very clumsy. I found that you can rotate through the items with the Mouse Wheel to center the one you want to use in the middle circle.

Hi Greyfuss,

I was looking for one that might help many of us, not just myself. Usually there is some kind of guide. All we get is a suggestion that we use a controller. I bought a Gravis Joystick many years ago. I'm looking for a connector from a 15 pin (two rows) to a USB. I didn't care for it then and probably won't now, but I'll give it a try on my next play. I see that new controllers run between maybe $50 to $80. Most in the upper range.
I had a major time last night trying to get the ice breaker working. Finally got it this morning. smile

Take care,

Bill

Are you looking at joysticks or gamepads?
You can get a new USB gamepad for around $20.
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gamepad

Ideally you'd try one out in a local shop to make sure it fit your hands.

Gameport-to-USB adapters aren't as cheap as you'd expect.
According to user reviews, the Rockfire adapter will work with a Gravis Analog Pro joystick, but the Rockfire costs about the same as a new gamepad.
https://www.amazon.com/game-Adapter-Rockfire-RM-203-gameport/dp/B004HAX7OU/qid=1494800898

Since you don't even like your old Gravis Joystick, there's not much advantage to getting the adapter over a new USB gamepad.

Thank you Jenny,

I'm an avid Point & Click old man who is probably too stubborn to change, but I'll give it a go. I should have kept to the topic instead of adding other stuff. Is there a game manual for the game? I'll keep looking and if anyone comes across one, let us know.

Thank you,

Bill

Check and see if Steam installed a manual (or readme) in the game folder.
Is there anything like a manual accessible through the game menu?
Any options for key mappings that would tell you the defaults?

There may not be any official manual.

Hello all Gameboomers.

I was eagerly awaiting the 3rd Syberia game, replayed the first two to get the story again. Then I read the reviews. I normally don't read reviews and have liked many games that were panned by reviewers. I'm just wondering. I'm thinking of waiting till the price drops.

One thing I keeping seeing on reviews is that the game
Click to reveal..
has a cliffhanger ending

Adam, I combined your question with this official Syberia thread because everything you need to know is in here. You can make your own decision after reading this thread.

From reading the reviews, the game is a hot mess. I loved Syberia 1 & 2 for the graphics, music, story and overall point & click simplicity. Unfortunately, AG developers seem to think that the majority of us are demanding a full 3-D experience (are we?) and, therefore, end up choosing engines that IMO interfere with the experience more than not (in this case requiring the keyboard and/or a joystick/game pad), not to mention ending up with programming bloat and huge hardware requirements.

I can't help but wonder what the acceptance would have been if Sokal/Microids had just used the original Syberia engine.

Just an FYI for those that aren't playing because of the controls, Microids is working on a Mouse Only version that will hopefully be released in June.

Great news, thanks, Ana. rah

I actually don't mind keyboard controls, but I prefer either character relative or a full 3d setup, where I can move the mouse like a camera while I steer the character. Camera relative is a pain, so I think I'll be using point and click once I finally pick the game up. Like oldbroad, I am going to wait for a really good sale as well. yes

Did they actually say "point-and-click" or did they say "full mouse"...
Because they're not the same.

Jenny, I revised my post to reflect "mouse only" instead of P&C. I didn't really think there was a difference.

The update is on Steam now which in part says:

Controls:
- Addition of a Point and Click - "mouse only" - mode:

Now if only they would make it so you can save at will...

It's nice to have a cursor I can find. That open circle was always lost in the snow. Don't know about the rest yet since I finished the game over a week or so ago. As most of you know I've been working on saved games. smile Yes! They can be exchanged between players. Microids has 21 saves on their support website to help players.

Cheers,

Bill

I'm still dubious about whether it's true point-and-click or whether it's actually click-and-hold.

You're welcome Ana.

I've been following your thread regarding saves mrbill. Still would like to be able to save when I want to (when I eventually get the game).

Don't know Jenny100. Hopefully, somebody will come along and let us know.

This is good news, as long as it isn't click and hold, as Jenny said. I actually don't mind direct control and sometimes even prefer it, which is something I never would have thought I'd say 20 years ago. However, I really don't like camera relative controls, so a change to point and click would definitely be preferable in this case.

I'm still waiting for the price to come down significantly before purchasing the game. Parts of it look nice enough from what I've seen in YouTube videos, but it's nowhere near the level of the first two games.

They Have Changed the controls Greyfuss. You can now go forward with the mouse. When you click ahead it appears to be manholes that form until Kate gets there. The Curser is a large Golden Pointed item which is much easier to see then that thin walled circle of before. When I picked up one item I ended up with three of them (eliminating one other pick up from before). These are the differences so far. Stairs can still be problematic, but not as bad at all so far.

The Game does not save upon Quitting the game. They are most often at specific points. That is why finding a save for someone where they lost the game after a certain point may prove to be difficult.

Cheers,

Mr. Bill

So is it actually point-and-click and not click-and-hold until Kate gets there?

What are the "manholes" supposed to indicate?
Are you supposed to interact with them?
Do they indicate where to click to have Kate take that path?

I guess it's hard to describe. If anyone finds a YouTube video showing the "manholes" let us know.

Just imagine clicking on the road a manhole pops up and rolls around in position. It surprised me.

I guess they do that so you know where she is going. It's after the click.

Cheers,

Bill

Been playing the new point and click version this evening. It's intuitive and a lot easier than before if you are playing on a PC.

Still a big issue about only one save. Probably makes sense to use a back-up from time time but microids has a lot that you can chose from to restart if you have a crash or it stops working properly at any point (as happened with me).

Syberia 3 is a lot better than the previous Syberia games. I'm loving it. Point and click has just made it even better.

It's big though so you'll need lots of disk space!
