Hmm... I had a go at my press copy and... to be honest, I'm finding it just a little too retro for my liking... but I'll give it another go, the game might grab me if I give it a bit of time.

I'd have to agree. While I'm heavily into retro, this looks like something that was done on RPGmaker or something similar. It's always been hard to translate a true RPG to a 2D Pac-Man, serial action kind of environment.

Turning off the SFX completely helped - they were horrible! If you basically ignore the graphics, at least the character graphics, there's a good RPG in here. A lot of thought has been put into making the mechanics a little different from the standard. It all depends on whether you can get past the very VERY retro aesthetics really.
