My physical copy of Obduction arrived today.

Packaging was a piece of cardboard folded over.

The bottom of the DVD case was smashed and a sharp plastic shard was floating around the package. A second sharp-ended piece was almost broken off the bottom of the DVD case and will probably come loose soon.

There are two DVD's -- one for PC (Windows) and one for Mac.
My PC DVD had a piece of gunk on it that I thought was a scuff at first. It took quite a bit of rubbing with a cotton cloth to get the gunk off. At least that sharp plastic shard didn't get to it.

I had an extra DVD case to hold the 2 DVD's, but it was slightly thicker than the original case. The cardboard sleeve that's supposed to fit over the case was barely large enough for the original. Trying to fit it over my replacement case would have risked tearing it.

The slip of paper that was supposed to serve as the cover also had installation instructions on the back (as in put the disc in your DVD player to autorun the installer). Of course when you slip it under the plastic of the DVD case to serve as the cover, it won't be readable.

No physical manual. There was a large white paper envelope with 3⅜"x5" 'postcards' of "Howdy from Hunrath", "Fly fishing in Kaptar", and "Greeting you from Maray", and one larger picture card slightly smaller than 8"x10" that showed the large globe thing in Hunrath.

Has anyone else received theirs and was the DVD case broken as mine was?

Mine arrived perfect more than a week ago in a padded envelope although I didn't get the extra stuff like you, just the 2 disks and Install instructions in the DVD case surrounded by the sleeve. Have you tried to Post in the Obduction Backer Only Forum? I am sure they would like to make it right. When I had received my Tex Murphy Tesla Effect Backer boxed copy the Disk #2 had come off inside the case and bounced around during shipment which resulted in many scratches, I contacted Big Finnish games and they immediately sent out another Disk #2 for me even though the scratched disk I had received still loaded. It had no padding at all, and no attempt to make the cardboard mailer anything but flat, so of course the DVD case was crushed.

I was signed up at the Obduction forum at one time. It's been years since I logged in though.

1 got my game in a padded envelope and nothing was crushed or broken it came with the 2 dvds one for mac and one for pc. this is the game I thought I could never play because of the system specs, well I was in shock when my son said go ahead and install it anyway guess what it works perfect. now I have to take him out to lunch, I still cant figure it out.Dianne

I got mine in a padded envelope. Everything was fine. No envelope with pictures, though.

I'm supposed to also get a T-Shirt.
They could have used that for the padding.

I do hope you can get it sorted and end up with all your proper stuff in good condition !!

I received mine a few days ago. It was undamaged and packaging was fine.

I was concerned that DVD "must be in drive in order for game to work". Hopefully this is a security issue rather than the game using files on the DVD for images or video (which would be slow).

I'll try it out tonight. :-)

Where do you buy Obduction that includes a DVD?

Also, is it necessary to have a SSD (if so what should be the capacity) or can you run the game without a SSD?

I believe the DVD's are for KickStarter backers, Robert.

You contribute $75 or more to the Kickstarter.
I contributed more than that, which is why I got a few more extras.


Not necessary, but it will decrease load times substantially.

So is it safe to say that wherever I buy the game it will be a download?

And, if so, if you can say - which would be the best site to order from? I noticed that one site - Humble Store has if for $19.79.

Humble is using a Steam key for this game, so if you buy from Humble you'll be dealing with Steam.

Wait for a sale at GOG if you don't want to deal with Steam. Eventually GOG will have a sale, though they don't have one now.
