I'm playing the floater on a 233 MHz K-6 computer with Win 98.
I have the Gameboomers walkthrough, which someone kindly included with the game.
I've run into a couple of problems so far:

In the Salle de Coiffure there's one puzzle where you're supposed to click on a mirror and then on a flying bird. The walkthrough mentions that the puzzle may not work on a fast computer, but I don't think a 233 MHz K-6 is that fast and I tried running the game with Turbo both at 50% and 30%. The game ran pretty slow that way too. But nothing ever happened when I clicked the bird besides the bird getting a yellow highligh around the edges. The "sky" never changed and the card never appeared. Is the problem really the speed of the computer or could it be a Win 98 problem.

The other problem I'm having is that I can't click on anything in the Bar except the hat, which takes me back out to the Tea Room. I can't get past the Bar. If I click on the door in the Barroom, nothing happens. Judging by the map that came with the game instructions, the Casino should be behind that door. Is there something I'm missing here?

I also couldn't get anything to work right in the "Darkroom." If I walk through the Darkroom, go through the door to the Atelier, turn around, go back through the door into the Darkroom, and pick up the flashlight, then I can see pictures on the wall and zoom in on them. But I can't interact with them at all. If I click on the zoomed in picture I just zoom right back out.
If I pick up the flashlight as soon as I enter the darkroom, I get a black screen with a little round window in it. If I click the right or left side of the screen, I can change the image in the little window, but I'm stuck forever. I can get a card by clicking on what looks like a girl's neck ribbon, but after that I get a picture and then dumped back into darkness with the little round window. I don't seem to be able to exit back to the rest of the game and have to Ctrl-Q to get out of it. Is there something I'm missing here? or are these all bugs?

Hi Jenny

It took me a long time to get to the bar for "real". You will be able to interact when you do. The puzzle includes three things in the tea room. I believe it is the 2 of diamonds that gives directions. Check out the smoking pipe.

The dark room is quite hard to navigate and find the cards. To exit, look for a small exit sign near the tennis players. The flashlight determines what happens next. There are several cards there.

Dark Room

I do believe the speed of the computer is important to make the flying bird work. I couldn't get it to work on my 233 mhz machine, but it did on my 33 mhz 486. You may have to lower the speed a lot more. I was using Win 95 on the 486 though.

Progress report:

I managed to get the mirror puzzle to work by using Turbo at 10%. I Alt-tabbed to turn the speed down after going to the "Salle de Coiffure" and then after getting the card I alt-tabbed again to access Turbo and get the speed back up. Alt-tabbing doesn't seem to bother this game.

My problem with the Darkroom turned out to be that I didn't realize you could drag that circular window of light around the screen. Once I figured that out it wasn't so bad. I don't think there's any other part of the game where I dragged anything.

If anyone else is stuck getting into the bar:
Click the middle teacup on the table with the top hat in the Tea Room. A black-and-white picture of Alice, the Mad Hatter, etc. will appear. Click on the smoke in the picture. You will find yourself turned around and facing the picture of Alice, Mad Hatter, etc. on the wall. Click the smoke in that picture. An animated hat and smoke will appear. You have to click on the hat. (My strategy here was like with the octopus in Atlantis II/Beyond Atlantis: i.e. click, click, click, click, click, click as fast as you can).
Once in the bar, you have to click on the hat on the hatstand before you can move.

Now for my problems:

I don't seem to be able to get the machines in the casino to give me what I want. And the roulette wheel teleports me to a remote location in the museum as often as it gives me tokens. When I get a yellow token for the slot machine, I never win anything. Is there some trick to getting these things to cooperate or is the game meant to be just "try it until you get lucky?"

And the endgame - going up that chimney. I think I figured out that I need to catch the falling slipper. But no matter what I always seem to end up back outside the chimney after I walk on that crunchy stuff and the floor starts to fall in. Any tips here? Am I just not moving fast enough or is there a trick?

Jenny,

When the floor starts to fall away in the chimney, try clicking on the part that is dropping. Click fast and be ready to click again.

As for the casino. there should be cards that give you clues to using the machinery. I can't remember where they are.

Certain sections of the roulette wheel transfer you out and others will reward you with a chip. I always had trouble getting the color I wanted, so I used the picture at the end of the bar to get my red chips. The others seemed in good supply at the roulette wheel and I couldn't get yellow at the picture--always got an error message. Good work solving those puzzles.

I've managed to get tokens of all 3 colors out of that roulette wheel, but it's always chance whether I get a token or whether I get teleported. I manage to work the slot machines and the kinescopes, but I can't get the machines to give me a card. Is it all chance whether the machine gives you a card or not? I've worked the slot machine on the left, but never got 3 of a kind and never got a card. I think I'm not understanding a clue somewhere.

And maybe I wasn't fast enough clicking on that hole in the floor, because I did click on it - to no avail. I found myself in front of the chimney once more.

Jenny, it is much easier to use the peanuts and the picture in the bar to get tokens. You can select the color you want and not get transported. I reinstalled and can now get yellow too. I tried about 8 times on the left slot macine and got 3 of a kind twice. Be sure to grab the card in the left coin receptacle FIRST and then the tokens. Then use the tokens on the far right kineoscope. I clicked on the queen when it showed up.

Pokey helped me through the chimney.
I seem to recall that just as the stones start to drop, you click on the edge that hasn't dropped. Think of it as stepping onto a stone that starts to fall, then quickly stepping back onto the safe part.
You will have to do this several times.

Quantity has a quality all of its own

Okay, after hours of trying, I finally managed to make it to the gate at the end of the chimney, but now keep getting killed by the skeleton hand grabbing the gate.
Am I supposed to do something other than click the gate open and then click on a button in the elevator(I'm assuming it's an elevator)? I'm tired of getting killed and doing this piece over and over, and am just about to give up on this game (especially after all the time I spent on that darn chimney!).

The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....

Mary,

No, I just remembered it wrong. Try this instead

.....When the skeleton hand tries to get you through the elevator cage door, just click on the arrow pointing to the right. THIS is what makes the hand go away. THEN you still have to decide which suit of cards to click on or you will be sen back to the bottom of the chimney again. And the stuttering elevator door is part of the game.
Sorry for the misdirection, I should have checked my notes sooner blush smile

Okay, I've made it past the skeleton hand holding the elevator gate, and down I went into the water.

I get to the piece where I am in front of 3 roses: a red one, a blue one and a green one. If I click on the red one, I get to a grove of trees, and then back to the beginning of the game. The same with the others, I have seen nothing but water, and back to the beginning. I've clicked on some kind of animal coming out of his hole in the ground, I've clicked on a cat sitting on a hilltop.

I'm just about ready to call it quits, so I'm not asking for a hint, I'm asking for a SHOVE. What in the world am I missing? (By the way, I am clicking on the "club" button in the elevator.)

That's it. You return to the beginning with all three flowers. Game over. You've won.
