I have a new gaming computer, and I'm having trouble getting games to install. It's windows 10 and the games (Bioshock, and Crysis) installed on my last one. I can't remember if I had trouble on that computer to begin with though.

This has Core I7CPU
GeForce GTX 1050

The error on Bioshock is;

Feature Transfer Error
Content Dir: Component
File E:\data2.cab
ERROR Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

Any suggestions?

A cyclic redundancy check error can mean that there's a bad spot on the DVD/CD and that some data can't be read. I assume you are installing from a disk? Does it have any visible scratches? You might want to try cleaning it and then try installing it again.

They do have scratches Marian. I'll try cleaning them. Thanks!

These games will not install because of Windows blocking the DRM on these games - assuming you are trying to install from original disks.

I believe the GOG version of Crysis will install as they have removed the DRM. Not sure about Bioshock.

People had that error years ago, with Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Witcher 2, and other games. The error often seems to be related to how good a DVD reader you have.

Here are posts from 2007 where people were having problems with the Feature Transfer Error when using the Bioshock disc.
https://forums.2k.com/archive/index.php/t-5684.html

People have reported that the discs read in their old DVD drive and not in their new one -- and vice versa. It sounds like a matter of bad or marginal discs that don't read in all drives, and may not be related to the SecuROM DRM at all.

The SecuROM on the Bioshock and Crysis discs could certainly prevent the games from playing on Windows 10, but I don't think it causes the "Feature Transfer Error" during installation.

Thanks for that Jenny. My other laptop has Windows 10, and Crysis plays just great, although Bioshock is a bit glitchy at times.
My old computer has AMD graphics instead of Nvidia, but these games should play just as well on Nvidia.

I wondered about that... Usually the SecuROM would prevent the games from launching, the that "feature transfer error" isn't usually seen during installation.

Some of the people in Steam forums seemed to think you are more apt to have problems with Bioshock if you're using Nvidia.
