When I try to reinstall any of the Grim Tales games I get the error message: "Access violation at 0X004BE94D. I have tried at the BFG forums and I couldn't find any answers. I also couldn't find how to contact BFG directly to ask about the problem. Can anybody help, thanks?

Since this is a technical problem, I have moved your post over to Glitches.

You can contact Big Fish Customer Support here. Click on the right-hand side where it says "submit a request," and that should get you going. wave

Are you reinstalling the games on the same computer? Did you uninstall the games or just delete the launch icon?

To answer your questions: I reinstalled the game from my BF game manager. This is how I reinstall all my games and I never have any problem with them. It's just the last two Grim Tales games. I uninstall all my games from the game manager too. I really like the Grim Tale series and the first time around I didn't play the bonus chapter so that's why I reinstalled these two games. When I go into my Program Files the game icon is grayed out but if I right click on it, nothing happens.

Thanks everybody, I tried the fixes recommended, but no joy. I contacted BF but all I got was a form letter with the same information that's on the forum Help page. All I wanted was the explanation of the error code which is not addressed on their site. I really like these games and have replayed all the earlier games in the series. Don't know why these two titles won't play. I'd buy them again but I can't figure out how to delete the games from my computer.

You should reply to Big Fish, telling them that none of their suggested fixes worked.

Here is a good free program that should allow you to uninstall the games - but maybe wait until you hear back from Big Fish first. If you can't play the games anymore, at the very least they should be able to give you 2 replacement codes for 2 free CE game.

I don't think you ever mentioned which Windows you were using, but here's someone who had the error with Windows 10.
https://answers.microsoft.com/fr-fr/wind...ed-7a0d9271aed1

If you can read French, or can put the text through Google translator, you may get an explanation of what the error means and why it occurs.

The Revo Uninstaller Marian mentioned might help if the problem is due to remnants of previous installations left behind in the registry.

Part of the article Jenny linked to says this:

Quote:
Ce genre de problème apparaît généralement pour trois raisons: un programme qui interfère avec l'application (habituellement un antivirus), une carte graphique non mise à jour, ou une version obsolète de DirectX.

It says that this kind of problem generally happens for three reasons: another program that is interfering (often an antivirus program), graphics card drivers that are not up to date, or an obsolete version of DirectX.

Well, I replied to BF's email but I haven't heard back yet. It seems very strange to me that it's only the Grim Tales games that I can't reinstall. I'm playing the new one with no problem and I'm wondering if I should not uninstall it when I'm finished.

Did you use the Revo uninstaller to be sure there are no traces of the game left? Or you might try using the registry cleaner in CCleaner.

Illegal operation messages can also be caused by a bad spot on the hard drive or failing hard drives.

I tried running the game as Administrator and I scanned with Defender and Malware and I still got an access violation except with different letters. I'm still waiting for BF to get back to me.

It sounds like you believe you have a virus or some other malware. Big Fish can't help you with virus. If your antivirus and anti-malware programs can't get rid of the infection, you'll have to take the computer to a repair shop.

I've been experimenting with reinstalls. It seems now that anything I reinstall gets the access violation message. I wonder if my computer is at fault, but nothing else I do on it seems to be at fault. Lordy, lordy, I wish I were a teenager. They seem to know their way around computers, not like old ladies like me.

It sounds like the computer is getting worse. If the hard drive is going bad or it needs a reformat/reinstall of Windows, the repair person will need physical access to the computer. There's a limit to what anyone can do over the Internet.

You'll have to take the computer to a repair shop -- or have a repair person come look at it.

Well this computer is 7 years old and so far the only problem I'm having with it is with BFG. I hate buying new computers because I drive myself crazy trying to configure it.

I'm not saying you need a new computer. But if you're not able to install anything, that limits the computer's usefulness.

Is it only Big Fish games that can't install?
Or are all software installations affected?

If it's just installing through the Big Fish Game Manager that is affected, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Game Manager. Here are Big Fish's instructions...

I did uninstall and reinstall the Game Manager, nada. I don't have any trouble downloading a game and installing it but it won't launch. I'm going to contact BF again and ask about the "access violation". I hope they answer that specific question.

Don't know if it will help, but I found this at Big Fish...

"Installs but won't play" is a very different situation from not being able to install at all, and would likely have a different cause. In the future, please try to be accurate when you describe problems. Doing so will help us help you.

I'm sorry that I didn't make myself clear. I'm still waiting to hear back from BFG about the problem.
