I've gone through the walkthrough, finishing the
Tuning fork puzzle. Gone, back to ranch, hung up
the saddle and gone out the gate. Walkthrough
says "It's nighttime and we haven't fixed the chicken
coop". Well it doesn't turn night, so I can't get to the coop.
Have I missed something that will trigger night time?

Yes, you must have missed something that will trigger nighttime. I would suggest looking over the walkthrough carefully to see what that might be.

And if you have a task list, check that as well to see what else you might be able to do.

On the check list there are two that
say "Ask Tex to let you ride.
Well, I have ridden more than once, but
the check list says I haven't done that yet.

Sooo, I am starting from the beginning; to
see what happens.

The riding thing may not get checked off the list until you ride to somewhere off the ranch. Just mentioning it in case you haven't done that yet.

Played from the beginning. Been all over the
places. I can get Tex to say "Yep" when asked to ride.
Then look at check list "As usual get Tex's permission
to go riding." I click on that and Nancy says, "Can't
check that off yet."

Is a saved game possible now?
Where it turns night and next is chicken coop puzzle.

I took a look at the saved games I have and I have one right after the tuning fork/box puzzle - according to the walkthrough, after that you can go back to the ranch and can repair the chicken coop. I will send you that one and you can see if it helps. I would suggest following the walkthrough after the tuning fork puzzle (it's only a few lines) and then see if things are the way that they should be.

I wish I knew what little thing you are missing, but unfortunately I do not. Night is automatically triggered when you have done everything you are supposed to do first.

I will send that saved game now.
