Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is cheerful to God when you rejoice or laugh from the bottom of your heart.
``````````
So, you think English is easy, huh? Read to the end and see if you still think so.
1. The bandage was wound around the wound.
2. The farm was used to produce produce.
3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4. We must polish the Polish furniture.
5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
8. A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10. I did not object to the object.
11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13. They were too close to the door to close it.
14. The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15. A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17. The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
18. Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
19. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
20. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?
Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
You lovers of the English language might enjoy this...
There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP'
It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ?
We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.
And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.
We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP. To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP .. When the sun comes out we say it is clearingUP ...
When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.
When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.
One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP , for now my time is UP , so... it is time to shut UP!
Good morning everyboomie. wave2
Enjoying your weekend? bravo
I had a great day. Was up at 7:00, had breakfast and then took the dogs to the park. After that I went to Walmart for some grub. yes
It was cloudy and cool again today, so again I picked the hot day in between 2 cool days to go hunt heads. snicker
That's ok though. There are more cool days coming. wink
Besides that, I bought Mysterious Journey II, and Myst IV on Ebay, and they both arrived today. hamster
I got them both installed on my desktop first, and they both play on it. Then I installed MJ2 on my laptop, and it plays perfectly on Windows 10. woot
I haven installed Myst IV on my laptop yet because right at the moment I'm watching the Cowboys play. yay
So I'm looking forward to a great Sunday. thumbsup
Wishing you all a great day as well. rah
Sounds like a very full day, Joe! How's Missy doing? Hope the Cowboys win for you!
I'm supposed to go sailing tonight but they are calling for thunderstorms. I hope it stays clear until after 9!
Have a happy day all!
Enjoy your games, Joe! woot Hope you and the dogs had fun at the park.
Hope it stays clear so you can go sailing, Ana! yes
It's really late Saturday night here. I didn't fall asleep with the light on this time, but I did stay up late practicing. I did a lot of belting; it's a wonder no one complains, but I guess our apartments have good soundproofing. lol My voice lesson went really well, and my mom and I saw Wonder Woman, which was fantastic.
Sunday is going to be my gaming and relaxing day. thumbsup
Hope everyone has a terrific Sunday. summer
My friend is back from his travels. Missed him. Got bored with no BBC stuff to watch at night. All back to normal in a few days thankfully. His Dad is still travelling and visiting friends and relatives. Got the whole version of his Mom's decline. Seems it was a joint decision to remove the 'life support', including Mom who was lucid enough to make the decision given the doctor's prognosis (remember SHE was also a medical doctor herself). Sad but for the best and everyone is fine with all that went on. Friend said he can repeat the 'tale' word for word because his Dad did it at each visitation stop of the friends/relatives. Almost comical per the friend. The 'twice told tale told mega times'. Fed him cold Pizza at 10pm and he went home (all 100 feet down the driveway). Dunno what his sleep/wake schedule will be now.
The Outdoorsie cats, who he and I fed the evenings feeding to, were SCARED of him. Might have been the real shoes instead of sandals or the striped shirt instead of ratty T-shirt. They will calm down when he's back tonight for the late feeding. Animals are keen sensors for every little difference. When I put on 'real' shoes instead of my sandals, they panic. Takes a bit of talking to convince them it's really ME.
Off to hunt for those 5 baby raccoons. I'm pretty sure they are living in the palm tree down in my back lot. At least that's where Mom took them. She stood guard at the base, while all 5 crawled up the tree (fan palm, about 40 feet high, untrimmed.) Makes a great habitat for raccoons, birds, etc.
OH this morning, saw a HUGE gathering of Dragonflies! Awesome. Usually I spot one or two, but this was a swarm I guess of at least 7 and maybe up to 10. Now I will have to look up habitats of dragonflies and see why they were all together. Awesome. I associate dragonflies with my dad. When I was about 12, he brought me a dried one from Cape Canaveral when he was working on our Space Program. He travelled a lot and would bring me little things. The dragonfly was my favorite. He found it on the beach in Florida just perfectly dried and preserved. When I see one, I feel his presence near me. Always a good feeling. Wonder what 10 of them means?????
WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.
Super Sunday ya'll puppy
We are being quiet today. Baseball game later with the boys, though I'll probably stay home. It's an evening game...have to leave too early to feed the dogs, and get home too late.
Hope your Day is wonderful and that you are all dry and safe. wavegirl
We've been seeing a lot of little orange lizards around the house. Decided to look them up today. Apparently they are Turkish House Geckos...cute.
