Hi everyone. I was in the mood to play Oblivion again, and I have it installed and it works. (Using my HP laptop from 2015-specs below) But when I try to install mods for it, I get a message that I need to have administrative privileges to run the mod installation. As far as I know I am the administrator on this computer (I'm the only person who uses it) and so I'm not sure what to do next.
I would love to have your help you guys!
Thanks SO much! Tracy

Hi Marian. Thanks so much for replying. Well, lol, I feel silly saying this but I'm not sure how to do that as far as what to click on. For example, when I download a mod from nexus, it goes through WinZip and I tell it where to unzip it to. It's: c:programfiles(86)\BethesdaSoftworks\Oblivion\Data
When I get to that part, that's when I get the error, and I'm not sure where to click to run as an administrator.
Thanks for your help--I need it! lol

I Googled and found this https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/How_to_install_Oblivion_modsFor manual installation it says... Manual Installation: Download and install 7zip. Once you have downloaded the mod, open the archive (.7z, .zip or .rar) with 7zip, and click extract. Extract the files so that the files (esp, bsa, etc.) and the folders (meshes, textures, sounds, etc.) are in the Oblivion data folder (\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data). Activate the mod through your preferred launcher by ticking the checkbox next to the esp/esm. You seem to be up to the "Activate" part, though your Oblivion folder is in a subfolder of C:\Program Files (x86). It looks like you need a "preferred launcher" to "activate" the mod. Maybe the "NMM" from http://www.nexusmods.com/games/mods/modmanagerthat they mention. They also say If you installed your game into your program files folder (which is not recommended), right click the Oblivion.exe either in the Install folder or on your desktop, click properties, navigate to the "Compatibility" tab, and tick the checkbox next to "Run this program as an administrator".

Pardon my ignorance, fellow Boomers, What the heck is a "MOD"? Sandy BTW: Where can I buy\download this game?
never mind, folks. Looking through a walkthrough of this game, I think that it's "over my head", just too much action for me. LOL

Hi everyone. I still can't get mods to install, darn it. : (
btw---mods are modifications to the game, like new houses, quests for the character, new clothing, etc. They make games so fun, especially older ones!
PS If anyone has any other ideas about getting mods installed, I'd love to hear from you! I have a feeling I'm going to have to get an older computer with an older operating system in order to get this to work. Not sure if it's my laptop or Windows 10, but it's just not happening. : (
Thanks so much for all of your help though, you guys are patient and terrific, Tracy

Hi again everyone. I was able to get mods installed tonight in Oblivion! Yay! I'm so grateful for your help and I may be back, but for now I'm thrilled to say that I have all of the Oblivion and Shivering Isles mods I've been wanting to install! : )
Tracy, happy dancing : )
