Hi Marian,

I don't really expect you can help me. I am just frustrated and grasping at straws here.

I have been trying to pick this lock in Chapter 4 for 3.5 hours today, 2 last night, and I don't know how many of the 7.5 hours I played on Wednesday. The instructions for the lockpicks are in the game so I know how they work. I am just wondering if MaG might have put some helpful strategy tips in the walkthrough.

No need to copy over the instructions or solution to me. If there is nothing "extra" in the walkthrough, I will just look at it myself.

Thanks!

I don't remember the instructions for the lockpick puzzle in the game, so not sure if any of this is repetitious. I am not seeing any special tips to speak of, but maybe things are worded a bit differently in terms of help, depending upon which walkthrough you look at.

There are some tips here.

There also might be something useful here at the top of the page.

I did play this game many years ago and my only recollection of this puzzle is my having looked up the solution and followed it.

I also played the game many years ago but I cannot remember if I was able to solve this or if I used the walkthrough. I do know I probably didn't spend this much time with it.

UHS - always forget about them!

Thank you Marian. I am going to try again before I cave in. crazy

I think I'd probably still be working on this puzzle if I hadn't looked up the solution...

I really don't understand why puzzles like this are included in adventure games at all. Another really awful one is that colored-ball puzzle in Nibiru - that was insane.

Marian - I tried again last night for a few hours and have been working on it again today for around 4 hours. I finally had to give in and stop wasting all my playing time. I used the UHS hints. The first 2 sections I already knew. The third section had 14 steps. I had gotten to step 8 on my own a few times (in all those many hours) but each time when I screwed it up I could not remember how to get back there. So, basically, I needed help getting back there and then with 9, 10, and 11 I think it was. Whew! I am finally done with it! I only stuck it out this long out of anger. I could not give it up, but finally I had to. What are you gonna do? duh I am a stubborn Taurus!

Moving on while I still have some weekend left. lol

Yes, take advantage of your hours remaining to play and actually see more of the game. laugh

There is no doubt in my mind that you got far further with that lockpick puzzle than most players did! The stubborn Taurus...that explains it! lol

Turned out I didn't remember that game
as well as I thought! cry
I remembered the wrong lock pick game! oops
It was the lock pick part from "Post Mortem"
(In which grandfather Gus opened an old fasioned lock thingy)

So there goes the impressive part .... duh
Will have to give back any compliments I received blush
Must be getting old ... sleep

Am now replaying necronomicon, the game where
everybody seems to be asleep as well, except
the main character, lol
It's a dark Lovecraftion game,
(It's real creepy: matches in inventory and no candles... cry)

Robert blush

Either way, we're still impressed Robert. But, are you sure it was Post Mortem? Yes, there was a lock picking puzzle in there, but Still Life had Gus in it and he is the one picking this lock too.

Just finished. I love this game! Probably better this time than the first time I played it because I think I understood the game better this time.

Thanks again Marian for your help!

That's terrific - I'm glad you enjoyed it. smile

I played the game once when it was first released and barely remember it - it would be a good one for a replay.
