Hi,

how did you others who played both Dishonored games find them compared to each other?

The version of the original Dishonored I played in past was the GOTY Edition including longish story-DLC's The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches.

I finished Dishonored 2 yesterday and it left me a bit empty and with some disappointment. I tried to put in words what it lacked or what could have been better and found three main reasons.

First, I felt there was way less dialogue and interaction between the protagonist (Emily/Corvo) and other main characters than in original game. It was mainly the short briefing before each mission where any interaction happened.

Second, the places to visit during misssions were too similar for my taste - mansions, palaces, research institute, observatory (museum/exhibition). All same type of buildings with large rooms and halls. And the elevator made your task much easier in nearly all places. The original game presented also several types of factories, steam boat etc.

Third, the enemies were all too similar, mainly soldiers and private guards. The original had also competing criminal groups better presented.

It is recommended that gamers play Dishonored 2 twice, once with each protagonist and chaos level. I played with Emily and low chaos. Not intending to replay any soon, actually I already backed it up and then removed. High chaos is not my game style, i like low chaos and stealth more.

The best stealth game I've ever played is the newest Hitman. I played all the episodes through again and again using all different opportunities and mastering my skills to finally make them SASO (Silent Assassin, Suit Only). The game is so well designed that you must learn and know the surroundings very well to make it, but you never feel it's impossible. It never felt boring during the 321 hours of my gameplay. For comparison, I used 61 hours for first Dishonored and 42 hours for Dishonored 2.

The next, shorter game in series, Dishonored: Death of The Outsider, will release soon. The trailer I've seen suggests it's even more battle oriented than these two already released. By my opinion they are and have been taking steps to wrong direction. Am I alone with such thoughts?

I also felt slightly disappointed in Dishonored 2 without really knowing why. I loved the new abilities Emily brings to the game, and some of the mission setting were spectacular. I just ended it on a vague note of dissatisfaction. I'm going to play it again as Corvo and see how I feel.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I also enjoy stealth, but a decent number of gamers who follow action-adventure and RPG's look to also master combat strategy and techniques, so there's a pretty good call for that in most games.

I had difficulty with the stealth system early in the first game and as a result started to rely more on the other special ability skills early on (kind of odd considering the game is touted as a "stealth/action adventure.) For what ever reason, I didn't find the story all that compelling, so never went back for a second game play. I did think the base plot was really original, but got tired of the style they used for the dystopian settings.

I haven't given the second game a chance yet, was on a cyber-junk jag for awhile before our move so didn't get to it.

Will have to give the Hitman series a go, it's been recommended before.

Stealth-wise I still have guilty fun with the Elder Scrolls game due to the OP stealth system. Always cracks me up when you hit a bandit with an arrow right in the butt when stealthed and they say, "Hmmm, must have been the wind.." (gives a whole new meaning to "breaking wind.") lol

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

@hagatha

It's kinda relieving to hear there are other gamers that share my opinion at least up to some point. Let me hear how you find it on second time as Corvo. Are you planning to make a change to your play style too and cause more chaos?

@Trail_Mystic

Dishonored 2 is certainly worth to play through, but don't set your expectations too high. It's different but maybe has more replay value too.

That with the Elder Scrolls you told sounds fun. Haven't played that game ever.

Hitman also includes some fun lines that are made on purpose there. When you attack someone behind and start to strangle your victim unconscious, you are supposed to press the gamepad button for a while. But if you release it too early, you only hold your victim still and hear him/her wheeze something like "Is this your first time cause I don't think this is going too well!". Or when Hitman (Codename 47) throws coins into a fountain, a local citizen upbraids him: "We don't do this here. Act according to your age man! How old are you? 46, 48?". Earlier in the game one puzzle needed throwing coins into a fountain and I believe most of the gamers try the same trick there too.

I have played only two Hitman games, Hitman: Absolution and episodic Hitman™ (2016). The first one was stricly story driven but prepared me well for the latter one which gives the player very free hands how to perform the mission on hand. I'm so glad IO-Interactive didn't give up when Square Enix deserted them but decided to continue as an independent studio. Maybe we see Hitman™ Season 2 after all.

As usual I'm in the middle of several games -- Wolfenstein, Fallout New Vegas, Riddick, and a couple of others. I think I've finally finished my obsession with Fallout 4, so it's coming off the computer.

I actually have some of the Hitman games, so maybe it's time to check them out...though I just bought Prey, so it'll be a toss-up between them.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Are you going to invest on "Dishonored: Death of the Outsider" released today?

I haven't read much about it yet, but I have got impression it is not as long as previous games in the series.

Have you read or heard anything special about it?

I think I personally let some time pass and wait for a special offer although release price $30 is not so much to ask these days.

I'm replaying Dishonored 2 right now, and I'm rethinking my opinion of it. The levels are truly spectacular. I'm working my way through the Clockwork Mansion and appreciating the incredible detail that went into this setting; the massive rooms that come apart like a 3-d puzzle and reconfigure with the pull of a steampunk lever, the almost self-aware clockwork soldiers That mutter directions to themselves; my nemesis taunting me over a scratchy 60's era loudpeaker as I try to work out which room configuration will move me forward in the game. Favourite power: the ability to link several enemies and take them all out by choking only one of them.

Next up will be Death of the Outsider.

I'm glad to hear you took a second round with Dishonored 2, hagatha. As Corvo, I suppose? Does it feel very different as him compared to Emily? Clockwork Mansion was really something spectacular. I found it much more difficult to get out of there all the way than it was getting in and do your deed. Maybe I should also give it a second try some day.

You seem to admire challenge and detail in games. Have you tried Hitman™ (2017)? The amount of detail is equal or maybe even exceeds that of Dishonored 2 at times. Especially the fashion show in Paris is also a stunning audio experience. The gameplay is so well designed that it is very challenging but you never get a feeling it would not be possible to fulfill the mission in hand. And you always have several ways to do it, experience and master your strategy to finally make it SASO (Silent Assassin, Suit Only). Highly recommend it!

Actually, I played as Emily again this time, though I'm certain I'll check out the Corvo version too now that I've reconsidered the game.

I have some of the Hitman games and am quite interested in the newest one. Those may all be in my queue soon. I'm actually finding myself tired of all the huge open-world games and need something a bit more focused. These sound about right.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
