Hello all! I was typing out a very chatty message and I hit the wrong key and it was gone. So I guess I'll get to the point. Just received the game yesterday and decided to try it for a little bit. I absolutely don't know what I'm doing. I never learned the quest marker mechanics and it's putting me off. Suffice to say I made it to some slave owner's house and was stealing him blind, (I'm not a thief player)while he's laying in a drunken stupor on the floor. There is supposed to be a gate-key and some slave clothes that I need to take. I eventually got to the place where the key is supposed to be. But I can't get it! (Yet!) It's inside a raised fireplace with a good fire going. I can't reach it and I can't find anything to use to pull it toward me. Is anybody here playing this game? This is my first MMO and I'm not sure how character interaction is handled. I've only met a couple NPC's so far. The Prima Strategy Guide is coming tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be better able to understand what's going on and learn the rules/guidelines for playing. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Sharon, it sounds like you are embarking on a fun adventure. wave

I don't know anything about Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, but if you google the game, you can find websites and wikis that are devoted to the game. You might find some useful information there. It will be nice to have the strategy guide as well.

I've played Morrowind a couple of times, but I don't know if it follows ESO well or not. I was utterly lost in the beginning of the PC game too and it took me quite a while to figure out what I was doing. I'd wait for that strat guide and see if it helps you.

This looks like a great resource, but I found some others too...

SharonB, I looked for this game on Steam right now and got confused because there's more than one game listed. Been thinking about trying this for a while. Which one have you got, and where did you buy it?

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hello, Hagatha and thanks Marian. I spent a long time looking on the internet for this particular issue and watched quite a few gameplays, but could not find anyone else who had a problem with it. -- Well, I dived right back in this evening and saw some other players running around or just seemingly standing still looking into space. I felt so much better, because it was clear to me they were gathering their thoughts and didn't know any more than I did what we were doing. lol I did fortunately come across the in-game help menu and was finally able to grasp the mechanics a little better. I was surprised how manly my arms were when I tried combat. (Couldn't figure out how to draw my weapon, confused -- Anyway, the problem with the key was that it wasn't where it was telling me it was. The key was in a different hut entirely, but in that direction. That Oblivion quest marker scheme came back to bite me in the posterior. I played quite some time this evening and I really enjoyed it. The time frame for this "Chapter" of Morrowind was some 700 years prior to the version we played. I am really starting to enjoy this game, but I have a LOT to learn. Beginning to think I didn't make a mistake buying it after all.

Hagatha, I purchased my game from Amazon. Mine is this version: Morrowind Standard Edition PC Then I joined the ESO Plus membership and received a bunch of freebies and upgrades. They have a special on for the next couple days you can get a free "Dwarven Crate" from 7/5 to 7/9 for each day you are subscribed as a member and login. You'll need to really check out their terms to see if this is something that would interest you.

I had really started to miss Morrowind - I was homesick cry Only time will tell how it really measures-up, but -- It's good to be back! catrub

My picture changed! Did I die and come back as a toucan?

Glad you are finally finding your way! I had to laugh when you said you saw others standing around trying to figure out what to do!

No one can change your picture except you... unless someone else has access to your account.

It seems to me I would need to buy a base game first?

Maybe this is all too confusing for my poor old brain. duh

Sorry, Hagatha. I found that out in the questions and answers about the game on Amazon. I didn't even question it beforehand. I just thought it was a stand alone game. I'm glad they included the original because I thought the game was expensive enough. They even have the price for the strategy guide at $40. Luckily. Amazon discounted it to $25. I thought it was worth it because I really studied the guide for the old game and the paperback version was really starting to wear.

I've been spending a lot of time with this and I'm learning as I go. As I study the guide, I'll probably create a new more efficient character through hindsight and better knowledge of what's needed. My problem now, if it is a problem, is that I'm picking up quests left, right and center all the time. I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I just can't say no. shame And I've started Skyrim SE. I'm getting very good at lock picking. But,... Now I've got 3 Elder Scrolls games in early stages at the same time. whistle Would that make me a sucker for punishment or just an ocd personality going to town. haha

If you do get the game, please let me know what you think of it. For years I wouldn't even think of joining an mmo because I was secretly intimidated by that world. Early days yet, but I think I've gotten past that fear.

Yeah, that's part of my deal, too. Not sure how the whole interacting with other people on line works. 'Course, I can always be a assassin type and try to sneak through the whole game. Maybe I'll check it out.

Hey there, apologies for not posting sooner, been crazy busy with the move and new house.

As for ESO, yup, expensive. Bethesda does do a nice job though, nice graphics, decent character builds and good game mechanics.

As for the RPGMMO thing they all have the same basic deal: You start out as a noob; awkward and unsure, then you gradually gain confidence and learn to "grind," which basically means taking on tons of low level enemies or easy quests to level up, earn gold and find loot (i.e. weapons, armor, crafting stuff) that's useful or worth some more gold. It gets monotonous at times until you reach whatever is deemed by the game as a more accomplished level. I find it's usually about 1/3 of the way up to the level cap if there is one.

Most folks are OK, you do occasionally run into the occasional "backward facing orifice" at times, but they usually drop off within a half hour or so. The first few levels are always the hardest, but the nice thing is that Bethesda has some very good online/in-game reference materials to help you find your way. Checking out the forums and seeing what other folks are experiencing is a really good way to get intell. If you can hook up with a like minded guild or close knit group of people all the better. It is possible to run a good number of quests alone, but in the end an MMO is really just social networking attached to a game, so it's good to look around for a group early and monitor what they are like.

I haven't played the Morrowind ESO yet, looks very intriguing though. Maybe after we get settled, in a year or two lol I give it a go.

Well, now I'm stuck! Who would have thought they would put a memory game in an RPG?! I'm doing the quest "By Invitation Only". They want you to touch a green glowing orb and then watch the order certain lights appear in some other black orbs. I really hate this type of mini-game. My memory sucks big time and I can't seem to get beyond the first 3. I hear the noise that they make when they start to glow, but I can't see where it's coming from. There are only 6 black orbs but you have to run to each one and touch it before the next glows. I have been trying a lot but I'm not getting it or I run out of time. Others have come and gone with seemingly no problem doing this. It's very frustrating. I'll keep working at it till it eventually comes right. This particular quest line is not even that useful to my skill tree according to the Prima Online Strategy manual.

Something happened and I'm not sure what's going on. When I was trying to jump onto a boat I tripped or stumbled or something and somehow fired my weapon unintentionally. There were several messages that said I had committed a crime and it was best just to go to a guard and pay the fine. What crime was it? The boat guy was still there so I didn't kill him and there was no one else. Eventually I did try to go to an ordinator to see what the fine was but he just ignored me. ???... I only have 332 gold anyway. Not sure I could have paid it.

Still working on learning the controls. Might try switching to the Xbox controller to see if that works better for me. So much to remember...!!!

Hi Sharon,

Here's a vid on the segment you mention, it might offer some technique help on how to run the challenge:

By Invitation Only

There also appears to be a solution offered at this Wiki near the bottom of the article:

Elder Scroll Wiki - By Invitation Only

It's not unusual to run across puzzles or memory style mini-games in RPG's, especially for those that have a base in high-fantasy dealing with magic and sorcery. The ones that Bethesda offers up usually have a single solution rather than being randomized - this appears to be of that type.

Good luck! thumbsup

Thank you so much for that, Draclver! I see now what I was doing wrong and why I couldn't see the proper sequence. As soon as one lit, I ran to it and tried to look around for the next light. Well, now I can finally finish this quest. Then I think I'm getting out of that neighborhood as it is not part of my faction and I am not helping myself. This quest is for those in the Ebonheart Pact and I'm in the Daggerfall Covenant.

Started Modding on ESO:M. Or adding addons as they call it. I've installed 3 so far and they are making a difference. And I expended my last 1000 crowns to buy a starter pack which included a horse. I opened a couple dragon crates I won for just belonging to the ESO and playing on specific days. It hasn't really given me much to use except I have a couple riding training scrolls, an additional mundus stone and 2 more nixhound pets. This makes 3. I wonder if they can be sold?

Thanks again, I was feeling really small for not being able to follow the sequence despite repeated trys.

duh headscratch I'm sorry Trail Mystic. Thank you for those links. As I expressed to Draclvr they were a great help.

Edit 7/21: Well, I finally got thru that quest. Very simple if you know what you're doing... I keep getting caught up in more quests/tasks and I can't find my way around yet. So I've got lots with more to do, but I can't find them to do them. I know that finding stuff is part of the achievement. I'm broke - 24 gold because I stole something. I can't fast travel - no money.

Having said that, I did learn more about the controls that I didn't understand before. I couldn't make the quick slot potions work for me and found that was because the keys needed to be mapped or bound. I took a look at some of the other controls and found out how to make my horse show up and how to ride him. So I'm pretty pleased with that progression. Now I need to find out if I need a banker or merchant or if that is used only by groups. That's another mystery to figure out.

This quest marker system is both a bane and a benefit. It gives me the direction I need to go, but no clue as to whether it's even in the same town. Keeps saying above! - no below! I think some of the quest markers are pointed at places I haven't been to yet. Suffice to say I need to be able to read and understand the legend/marker system. -- Taking a break from the game for a bit. I'll go back to youtube and try to find that legend.

Hi everyone. I have t been around in ages, but finally got some time to pop in today and was curious about ESO Morrowind. The original Morrowind is now one of my favorite games and I'm playing it once again (I don't know how many times I've replayed it but I can't seem to stop-lol)

Anyway, when I heard about this expansion I was really curious about it because I love Morrowind and I love graphics in general, so I'm eager to see the graphics in this. But, I'm definitely a single-player girl and was wondering if you can play as a single player, or if you have to play with other RL players?

I'm wondering if it is worth my buying it knowing how I feel about this, and so thought I'd see how you guys feel about it.

PS My one and only experience with MMO's was playing Warcraft in 2008 and I had NO clue what I was doing. As I was standing there trying to figure things out, someone came up to me and talked, but I didn't know how to have a conversation yet, so I didn't say anything and he called me a "b" and walked off. Needless to say, because of that kind of thing, I'm not crazy about getting into a similar situation again!!

Thanks so much for your help you guys,
Tracy 😊

Hi SharonB,

I have been playing ESO:Tamriel Unlimited for awhile now, just recently brought Morrowind. Since you have Morrowind you just might have Tamriel Unlimited as well. This is one huge game with a high learning curve. I will try to answer your questions and help you out on you long adventure.
You can play most of this game solo you do not need to group with anyone. I do not use the keyboard and mouse. I use an xbox controller. I find this so much easier to use. When it comes to quests and were to go you can select a quest in your journal,at the bottom it should say "show on map" press what key it shows and it will show you the location. There are add-ons that you can use. The ones that I like is "Destinations" shows where the quest givers are located and tons of other info. "Skyshards" shows were they are located to get those extra skill points. If you join the Mages Guild "Lorebooks" is a good one to have to help find all those books to level their skill line. Some of these are outdated because they just released a new DLC. The Wayshrines are a fast way to travel, most of them you need to find. I believe in the capital cites you should be able to travel to them right away. Stealing is a great way to make fast money, just don't get caught. Sell stolen goods to a fence. Their hideouts look like a "chicken foot" on the map. They usual have two entrances one in town and one outside of town. They can also take care of any bounty that you have, just get to them before a guard catches you. I hope some of this helps. smile

Thanks Lindy. I've been trying different characters to try to get a feel for how I want to play. I'm very indecisive. So, there is a lot of starting over. However, sometimes I really like a character but can't seem to progress very well with it. I haven't played in a while because I got very frustrated at not being able to take out a villain that is way more powerful than me. I realize that I just need to go and do a different quest till I'm better equipped, but I was doing so well to that point. Going to look at some more youtube videos on the game and I may just start over again and refine my character.

Tracy you can play as a single player, but you will not be able to do all things. There is however quite a lot for the single player. I had my doubts about playing a multiplayer game as well but so far all is good. I'm a little unsure about player interaction though. Sometimes other players will be doing the same quest as you and I wonder am I supposed to help them or let them make their own achievements. Sometimes I've followed other players through a tough patch and managed to fight my way through with a little help. I haven't spoken to them because I don't know how to do that yet though.
I hope you decide to try the game, it is very good and exciting!

My daughter allows me to play her game on the PS4. I get to do the tedious stuff like gathering, fishing, getting skyshards, delves etc. . . which is fine as she is in end game play which I am not nearly good enough of a player to do that content and I prefer to do more solo stuff than she does. While it is fun to run around with characters at max champion points and best in slot gear this is one game where the PC has it much better than the PS4 when it comes to modding in the game. We have heard that Sony would not allow modding for the PS4 version, nothing we can verify if true but still we miss out on a lot of good stuff to make the game easier. We also do not have the Master Merchant (?) and need to run around to the top guild traders to try and find prices on the items we want to sell, remember all of them and set our price. PC players have it so much easier to get higher dps scores as they have mods to help with timing of animation cancelling whereas the PS4 version is all guesswork.
(High DPS scores are important with end game guilds and running that content).
I have found youtube and the internet has just about everything needed to help out with the stuff I am doing when I want or need anything such as skyshard locations in the delves for example as I am not interested in actually finishing the delve just getting the skyshard from there.
I am glad to see other Gameboomers playing this game and I hope you have a lot of fun!
