He was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital were he was found to be brain dead after apparent heart attack. He was 66, which is too young. I was never into his rock music but I enjoyed his covers of Hank Williams country songs: Lost Highway You're Gonna Change (Or I'm Gonna Leave)

Can't believe a music icon from my young adult age is departed. Tom Petty was only 66 and just said how he wanted to stop touring to spend time with his grandchild. Much too young! Tom Petty Ana

I just read that - first I saw that he had died and then I saw he was on life support!
Once again, weeds are my life!

Back in the day, when we were much younger men a buddy of mine worked at one of the more well known recording studios in Hollywood. He worked as an assistant on one of Tom Petty's albums and repeatedly mentioned how Tom was just a really good guy that got along with everyone. He said that Tom was as concerned about the staff of the studio getting the time they needed to rest as he was about the outcome of the album and always had an open ear to suggestions about the songs. My buddy got out of the industry when everything went to home studios and computers, but during his tenure, worked with quite a few big names. I know that working with Tom Petty is one of his fondest memories from that particular studio.
