Hey Emily, Did you play the longest journey and Overseer all the way through on xp? I got them to install and play, but I got to a certain part in each game and they would crash to desktop or freeze up.... wave

Simon 1 or 2, bad graphics display as the game loads (just looks like static, colorfull static, but static all the same!), then the game locks up. I tried compatability mode, and some other setting changes but couldn't get it to work.

Largo Winch - Initialiy I had problems with sound on the spoken dialog (garbled and unintelligable), but eventualy I was able to change the sound settings in XP and get it to work.

Jack Orlando. just wouldn't run, even in compatablity mode. Ended up running it on a Windows ME laptop. This is the orginal version requiring VESA drivers, not the re-released version that I understand works better with various versions of Windows.

Hey Louis!
I've got "Simon The Sorcerer" running on XP. Took me long enough! Runs great but had to do major Tweaking. Took me an hour. Now the only tough part is I have the BOX and JC with coverart. But no instrustions. I can "mute" with "Alt M" and quit with Esc...but how to you save? I can't find a readme file anywhere.

I don't have Largo Winch.

I'll be getting Jack Orlando soon, I;ll let you know if I have any luck here.

Hey Bert,

In TLJ are you crashing at the police station stairs, if you are there is a patch or work around for that spot. You can skip the stairs altogether or install the patch. The patch was already on my game, but the help files said not to install it unless the game crashed at this point.

bert, no i haven't. TLJ i installed and ran to see if it would run. (others had said that they couldn't install so i wanted to try for myself -- i installed in compatibility mode). i've played it before (on a different computer). the police station crash is a known bug on all operating systems, so if that's where you're having trouble, definitely check out the patch.

overseer i'm in the process of playing. i am on day two... i can't remember exactly where. was your crash before or after day two? (i'm playing the CD version of overseer; couldn't get the DVD to work with my dvd player.)

Gimmee, is Atlantis the Lost Tales the first one? I can't remember, but I think that's one of them that won't run on WindowsXP. I played it all the way through the first disk, but then when it needs to change to disk 2, the game crashes every time.

Hi Inferno,

Re Beyond Time,

I followed your instructions to the letter, but just can't get it to work. It starts o.k, but when i click on the statue, the mouse disappears.
Nevermind, Dreamcatcher do say it's not compatible with XP. You are very lucky to get it working. Thanks for trying wave

Gee. That's odd. How come? I have a PentiumIV/
Creative Sounblaster Live 5.01 (I think) and
Nvidia GE Force II. 2Ghz 512RAM. The only thing I could suggest is load the patch the same way. and make sure all the program files in the folder are set to Win98 compatibility mode.
So sorry it didn't work for you.

Another options is to use Connectix VirtualPC to emulate a particular OS. I've a few friends who use it to emulate a DOS 6.22 environment, and they've had wonderful results getting old games to run. The nice thing about it is being able to run it like any other application, rather than devoting a large chunk of hard drive space to a dual-boot configuration. IIRC, the DOS drive image is all of 15mb. It emulates all the old hardware, regardless of what you've actually got in your system. So instead of playing with XP compatibility mode, you get to play with the old .bat files wink
