I just started playing.. let me state first of all... no one ever asked me to be the lead on a hike or trail ride... that being said... anyone that has played this game can just imagine me going in circles... just saying haha hardwall lol

Based on what I read in the Hints forum for this game, it is not a game for the navigationally challenged. lol

It's harder to find your way around in "The Dark Path" than it was in the first Barrow Hill game.

My sentiments exactly! I did eventually figure out how to get around, but got lost all the time. I remember Greyfuss told me how to get from one place to the other and after that I was good to go! But I agree - it was so worth it.

I persevered for a good while with the game and got quite a way into it but I'm afraid I got lost SO MANY times - because of the horrible navigation system - that in the end I shelved it for a (very) rainy day rolleyes

I think I'd have preferred that the screens were a lower resolution, but that there had been more of them, so it was easier to relate where you were going to where you came from. That might be part of why navigation was easier in Barrow Hill (which I think was only 640x480).

Anyway, I was very glad to have a new 1st person game that didn't give me nausea from 3D movement.

Until Greyfuss can help you out, here is one of the things he told me... use landmarks. I had to write them down at first because the horrible left/right navigation is so awful!

If you have a camera, you can take pictures of the scenes. Or if you have a program that can take screenshots during the game, you can use that. One option is to print out the pictures and mark where the exits are and where they go. Or if you have a separate computer you can open the screenshots/pictures in MS Paint and use the text option (icon with capital A in MS Paint) to label exits.

Since the game is so dark, it's better to use a computer, laptop, or tablet to display the screens instead of printing them out because the computer can adjust brightness.

It's similar to mapping a maze.

So sorry you gave up on this Mad. It really is worth gritting your teeth and fighting your way through the maze.

I found the navigation as hard as anyone but I could never work out exactly why it was so difficult. Is there a technical explanation?

Hi meryl.

It's possible I will have another go with the game at some time but my pleasure in playing an Adventure game does not come from battling with the navigation system.

Especially not in modern games eek

Thanks for the comments... I could take pictures Jenny but they are dark... I have started to make maps... with using those landmarks(thanks Drac) with arrows going all the different ways.... going to have to get a bigger sheet of paper..lol

That's why it might be better to view them on another computer or laptop (where you can brighten the screen) than to try printing them out.
