Were you introduced to it by a friend or relative? Captured by aliens and forced to play Myst? And what was the first PC Adventure game you ever played?

For me it was just curiosity. The first PC game I ever played was Myst (I'm not counting the really old ones I used to play on my Commodore 64 ) I saw the Ages of Myst 5 year anniversary box that had Myst and Riven in it and thought that it sounded "cool" so the rest is history. I've never owned anything else up until recently, I didn't even play the games that come with Windows!

About a year after we bought our first Mac, my husband read me a description of an adventure game created by Douglas Adams that had a spaceship, a bunch of wacky robots, and a noisy parrot. Since I love sci-fi, Adams' books, and parrots, I knew that Starship Titanic was designed with me in mind. I had never played any computer game except solitaire until then, and it's still is my all-time favorite.

I've played computer solitaire games & jigsaw puzzles for years but every other game I had experienced was of the shoot em up or mario/zelda type, that required fast reflexes & little thinking, which really didn't interest me, though I loved the graphics. I had just assumed that all games were like that.

The Journeyman Turbo Project was the first adventure game that I played, then I discovered the jigsaw/adventure Wrebbit series and was hooked.

I discovered a whole new world of games that required thought, were beautiful and immersive when I started reading online reviews, looking at screenshots, etc.

I went searching for freeware adventure games and after that, it was 'all she wrote' & I had to start buying some new ones. I've been playing catch-up on all these great games that were around for years & just coming out, ever since.

I bought the girls those little arcade toys with Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.; then played a little Pong on somebody's Texas Instrument. HOOKED!

Now, I can't enough; I've been BAAGed!

When I got my first PC, back in '86 I got Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy, another Doug Adams game, but never got very far with it. Didn't much like other PC games after that till I stumbled upon Beyond Atlantis. This was a gorgeous game, but way beyond my abilities, but my roommate came to my rescue. We played it for several hours one night, one of my fondest memories of him (he died about 16 months ago), but as he was very astute, and recognized that what I enjoyed was adventure games, he bought me The Longest Journey. The rest is history - now forty games+ and many enjoyable hours later, I'm as hooked as I can be.

Maybe 2 or 3 years ago, I thought to myself. "Try some game." But I don't like to play Starcraft or Diablo 2 at that time, because I've played them enough already. And if I'd play some game, I wish to play somewhat unusual thing in South Korea.

I finally made conclusion. "Adventure!" Well... I tried to surf, and found GTZ & JA. Sent several e-mails on GTZ, and 1 kind people introduced me about GB.

It started all...

Of course, at the first time I tried to play Adventure games, I had almost no idea & spent too much money for games which I'd not play for a long time. (I've not played [Quivering] until now, even if I bought it 2 years ago!) At now, I'm kinda cautious to buy games, because it could be fatal if I don't like the game which I bought from abroad. And I'm trying to sell or trade completed games in Korean adventure society, but it's hard.

So... I hope SaySix will buy all of my games with 1,000,000,000$!

My first real computer was a "Commodore 128D" [still have it,and it still works!] and I think the first adventure I played was a game was called "Murder on the Missippi" {I am not sure if I ever solved that one} It was a "point & click" and type in the ans. Than came the KQ games...been hooked ever since! Glynn

When we got our first computer a Tandy sx1000 a friend gave me a Leisure Suit Larry game.I have been hooked on adventure games ever since.

In June 1999, I decided to find out about these fancy electronic toys that I'd missed out on by being born too early. I bought Myst and Shivers 1 and 2 after asking for suggestions on an unrelated (non-game) forum. I bought Tomb Raider because I'd seen it in the Fox Trot comic strip and it was cheap. Each of the games cost $10 with the exception of Myst, which I think was $15. I wasn't about to spend much money on something I might not like. I played Myst first, and was very surprised because I'd thought all computer games were action-oriented like Tomb Raider. I thought it was so cool to be able to move around the game at my own pace, clicking on things in the game and having them react.

I was introduced to Infocom's text adventures in my high school. My mentor felt they were good for building logic skills and obtained a bulk license for in-school use. (though play was study time & after hours, of course <g>)

We bought our first computer in 1986 so I could bring work home and not be stuck at the office until midnight <G>! While browsing through the software section of my local department store one day, I spotted the text adventure "Wishbringer" by Infocom. The idea of using a computer to play games intrigued me, so I bought it. About 3 months, thousands of commands and 30 pages of maps later, I finally finished <G>! I pretty well stuck to Infocom games until I joined the GAMERS forum on Compuserve, and was introduced to Gabriel Knight, Tex Murphy and the Alone in the Dark series.

I think the first game I played that actually had a mapping function included was Beyond Zork. Was I ever impressed <VBG>! I could finally retire my pen and reams of plain bond paper.

I must be having fun because I've spent a small fortune buying and upgrading computers to accommodate my "hobby" :-)!

About 7 years ago someone gave me Tex Murphy Overseer as a sort of "christening" gift for my 1st computer. No instructions, no manual, and I had no idea what it was all about and what I was supposed to do. I had no idea about computers to start with and great difficulties with the "rodent". Tex Murphy was the ideal practice, and once I got into it I couldn't stop. Since then I've got my friends hooked as well and we always exchange and swap games.

I was going to get a gam to play and knew it would NOT be a shooter.I picked up traitor'r gate for about $10 and have liked them ever since .Have now been playing adventures for about 2 yrs now.

Well, I used to always play those text based ones like Zork, and the others I don't remember the names of...then came Kings Quest. Then a friend of mine got me hooked on these games called "Martian Memorandum" and "Mean Streets". Loved those. Later, a co-worker of my Mom had a friend who worked for this company Access Software and they had just made this game called "Under A Killing Moon" but hadn't released it yet. He had a prerelease copy and let us borrow it (before cd-burner times, so no worries of pirating it) and I was hooked. I had always loved detective stories and so that was right up my alley. I played it not even realizing it was part of the MM and Mean Streets series/story. It was so drastically different from those with the interactive movie aspect.

Then years later or whatever it was I saw Riven in the store, the sequel to Myst. I hadn't even heard of Myst, but I picked it up because it looked interesting. My brother and I stayed up everynight till about 4am playing it for about 3 days straight till we finished it.

That was it...I was now an adventure fan for life.

Shortly after I purchased my first computer, a friend gave me "Morpheus". That did it!!! I've been hooked ever since. It's still one of my favorites. When I really got stuck, he finally told me about Gameboomers which is now my second home. I can't imagine my life without games.

It was a relative for me. My brother had apparently bought and tried out Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, but soon gave up on it. He's not really an adventurer; he's more into console action games. Anyway, he just gave it to me one day shortly after I got my first computer, since he knew he'd never try playing it again. I tried it, and have been hooked ever since. Oh, memories... I replayed that game several times since too, and though it's not one of my favorites, I still think fondly of it.

Oh, well... I have just same problem as you, mrkwang. I think we could help each other at this time. If you buy all of mine first, I would gladly consider your proposal. My price? Don't worry. It's cheap! Only 10,000,000,000$. :kiss:

Well, it's a bit of a sad story for me: I was recovering from a miscarriage and my husband wanted to buy me a present. He asked if I'd like some pottery, but we happened to be in Office Depot at the time and they had the Ages of MYST set, so I asked for that instead. I played a lot of arcade games (actually IN arcades) before computer gaming was really a thing, and I wanted to try something new. After MYST and RIVEN I was totaly hooked. I think my next games were the Crystal KEy and Beyond Atlantis and TLJ...don't remember!

Wow it's pretty interesting how you can really tell when someone was meant to be an adventure gamer. In most cases it only took one game to push us over the edge so to speak. Not surprising how many times Myst or Riven are mentioned. They should have a display in the Smithsonian considering how much of an impact they made on gaming!

My first adventure game must've been KQ3. I didn't especially look for adventure games back then until I played Sam and Max. Needless to say I bacame a fan of the genre. I still enjoy the comical, lighthearted adventure games (like Sam and Max and DOTT) the most, but as I grew older I started playing (and enjoying) a lot of serious adventure games (like Gabriel Knight) too.

Almost 2 years ago tried my 1st Adv. game:Myst of course. Then discovered the discussion forums, Walkthrus,review sites, ect. and from then on thoroughly hooked. Have BAAGed about 55 older games and played about 27 of 'em.

Don't think I'll ever run out of games to play- there are so many I havn't played yet

Like action games too-namely Tomb Raider and Thief, also have played 1 Indiana Jones game: Infernal Machine. Can anyone reccommend any others that are similar to these?

I was shopping for kid's edutainment software at Price Club/Costco eight years ago when I saw a copy of Myst sitting on the other side of the table. There was only one copy left, and the picture on the box looked pretty interesting.

As I was going over to get a closer look at it, another shopper grabbed it and dashed away with it. For some reason, this made owning the game absolutely irresistable.

The next time I saw it I bought it.

I bought my first home PC in 1990 just to learn how to use one. DOS 3.3 with 386Max anyone? Whoa, hot stuff! I don't remember how I started playing games, a lark probably, but I started off with things like F19 Stealth Fighter, M1 Tank Platoon, and Wing Commander. Pretty much all strategy/simulation type games. It didn't take long to fill up the 65 meg (yes, that's MEG, not GIG) RLL hard drive, so I started looking at options. About this time there was a new gadget called a CD-ROM drive coming out. CD software was fairly rare and expensive at the time, so a common marketing tactic was to offer CD bundles with the drives at a reduced price. Then I saw saw one with a Gamer Pack, four games including Wing Commander which I was playing at the time. So I bought a state of the art 1X CD drive as a way to keep stuff of the hard drive and free up some room. Well, one of the games in the bundle was The Secret of Monkey Island. Never heard of it, and probably would never have bought it otherwise. Then I played it. The wit, the humor, the exploration and story instantly had me. I've been an avid adventure gamer ever since and never looked back.

I started with Myst and the rest was history. The games that really hooked me were The Longest Journey and Syberia. I just kept looking for more. I do want to add that having this forum and meeting people from all over the world that have the same interests have made my day and the gaming life more enjoyable.
