OK, here's the deal. I can hardly believe that this works. I copied the ForeverWorlds folder to a different partition on my hard drive and then clicked on the ForeverWorlds.exe within the new Forever Worlds folder. (I did not, by the way, delete the original install of Forever Worlds.) Guess what? The game loaded! I could save a game! I could reload a game! So what changed? Just this: Nothing in the Registry points to any of the Forever Worlds files anymore. This would suggest that the game's initial loading problem (and maybe even the game save and reload problems) are tied the Registry settings of the game. It's not DivX, it's not video drivers, it's not Windows Media Player. It's how the game wires itself into the Registry. DOH! I'll fiddle a bit more with this to make sure it's not just a fluke. Still, worth trying if you've got the game and it hasn't run for you yet, no?

Not quite done. The new install, which had been working very well, is now tipping over (logo, logo, lock-up) just like the old one. That said, while it was running, it looked and ran very well indeed. More work to do....

I might try that with In Memoriam that I'm having problems with (what'd you do move it to say a secondary drive, say D; rather than C:? I can't get online from withing the game to register my email for the messages and when I attempt to start the game it says "insert correct CD". I tried starting with both the install and the game disk, neither worked. Thanks for the info Mr Lipid as I'll be getting forever Worlds soon and I have 98 SE.

Mr.Lipid: Try to move it again, because it can update registry / ini settings after you finish it. So maybe you'll have to write a script for constant sokoban. Or better - make a custom reg file, which will put the old values to the registry so you don't need to copy the whole [blip]. You just import this reg every time you want to play it. Reminds me of scratching with my left leg on my right ear...

Didn't somebody wonder a while ago why this game wasn't being advertised very much?

Mad, Oh, I've got a pretty good idea. I've waited way too long for this game to be defeated by a silly glitch. You can sure you'll be kept informed.

Mr.Lipid: Have you looked into HKLM keys as well? Or maybe the game is living with its own life. The first puzzle is to get it running.
There are also two utils: regmon and filemon. If you google for them, you will be able to know which keys and files this game access so you will have pretty closer image on what to do...

Marian, Let us know if you get the game to work with WinME. I have ME and it didn't work for me.

The solution offered, so far, by TAC is this: Reformat your hard drive every couple months, do a clean install of Win98, install little else and Forever Worlds should work. Of course, if this is not practical, the alternative is: Reformat your hard drive every couple months, do a clean install of Win98, install little else and Forever Worlds should work. OK, I'm being a bit...snarky. That said, an answer will be found and it will show up here when it does.
