Someone had mentioned The Fall Trilogy as being a great game series. So I searched around for it, and the only place I could get it was from UK. In fact, I was thus able to buy all three chapters [Separation, Reconstruction, & Revelation] in one as "The Fall Trilogy." When I put in the DVD, a window appeared giving me the option of installing any one of the three chapters, one by one, as well as a fourth option to contact the UK tech support. I clicked to install the first chapter first, of course, and - after the security clearance (give permission to install from avanquest) - I got the message "Republishing Pack has stopped working." The computer asked me to check a solution online, but could not find one. I then clicked on Chapter 2, and that installed fine. I clicked then on Chapter 3, and that installed fine as well. I then went back and tried to install Chapter 1, but I got the same error message as before. I then clicked on the Technical Support, which did try to take me to a "GSP(something)" support in UK, but only to then get an error message that the page cannot be displayed.

I would really appreciate it if someone can help me with this problem. I got this trilogy as a birthday gift, and I really would like to play it - but I can't go to chapters 2 and 3, of course, without playing Chapter 1 first.

Big Fish has the game. Maybe you could play the trial and see if that works.

But I would have to buy it again, right? I googled and found that some websites are offering a free download, but I am afraid they might not be safe. Norton calls them "secure," as opposed to "safe" that it has assigned to some other sites not offering such a download. What do you think?

You don't have to buy it to run the Big Fish trial.
It would let you know if the game runs on your computer.

I wouldn't recommend a website offering the game for "free" because either it would be a free trial, same as Big Fish, or you'd risk getting that "something extra" that you don't want along with the game.

I tried Googling GSP support and eventually found this

Quote:
Q I receive a Republishing Pack error when trying to install my game.

Solution:
To resolve this you will need to manually run the game installer. Please follow these instructions with the game CD/DVD in your disc drive:

1. Press the WINDOWS KEY and E to launch Windows Explorer
2. Double-click on the drive containing the game disc to view the contents of the disc
3. Double-click on the DATA folder
4. Double-click on the ENG folder
5. Double-click on the INSTALLS folder
6. You should now see a file called SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE. Double-clicking on that file will launch the game installer.
7. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the game

It worked! It went a little differently than outlined:

Double-clicking on the drive would have given me the same window with the four options I mentioned above. I knew that because I had tried it already last night. So I right-clicked and used "Open" to see the contents of the DVD. And clicking on INSTALS gave me, not .exe files mentioned in the instructions but three folders, one for each chapter. I clicked on Chapter 1 (of course), which then gave me a choice of Install and Install-1a. I clicked on the one that said just Install, and that took me to the Setup Wizard. All I had to do then was to follow that wizard's instructions to install the Chapter 1.

I thought I would mention the above, in case someone else might have the same problem, so they would know exactly how it goes. smile

But the bottom line for me is that it worked! And I have you to thank for it! Thanks SO much. smile

I have 'The Fall Trilogy' from the old Kheops digital store - luckily, all the three games still work for me today (the protection there is TAGES, and its servers seem to work in spite of the company being closed).

But - I have bought the first chapter as a 'Collector's Edition', with the Strategy Guide - and I can't get it to work. Its protection is a 16-bit application, so I can't even start it on Windows 7 x64. What is worse, it is an old form of protection that requires sending a code describing my hardware to support@kheops-studio.fr - and then getting a personal activation code from them. I have such an activation code from 2009, but the configuration of my PC has surely changed since then, so it does not work any more frown

Does anybody still have that Strategy Guide for Chapter 1? I see only the one for Chapter 2 on Big Fish (https://www.bigfishgames.com/games/6568/fall-trilogy-chapter-2-reconstruction-guide/?pc), but strangely enough not for Chapters 1 or 3. Besides, it is a strategy guide by Big Fish, so it could be not the original one...

I'm sorry no one seems to have the Strategy Guide.
When I played The Fall I used online walkthroughs to find all those teeny pieces.

Is it possible to run the CE version of the game from inside VMware with XP installed and get the Strategy Guide?

Unfortunately not. I am able to run it in real Windows XP, but - the e-mail address for sending and getting the codes is surely not working...

There's a walkthrough for Chapter One on Big Fish, but I realize that's not what you are looking for.

Jenny100 and Marian - thanks for your help, but no, I am not looking for a walkthrough.

I don't remember well what was included into that CE Strategy Guide - maybe not only the walkthrough? Well, it seems that no one can access it anymore.

I'm sorry I can't help.
Probably no one can help.
Even if they own the CE with Strategy Guide they'll have the same problem as you do.
DRM is evil.

Well, the problem is solved! Thanks to one friend on a Russian site smile

So, if anyone else has that Official Strategy Guide, I can help.
It provides not only the walkthrough, but some music as well:
