This morning I went to Big Lots before work and they were putting out a bunch of games at $3.99 ea. They had quite a few good titles. Martian Gothic, The New Nightmare, Hitman 2, and lots of other good stuff. I baaged tons!
Two adventure titles that I had never heard of were also there. Uncle Alberts Mysterious Journey and Uncle Alberts Fabulous Voyage. (I bought both of them). They appear to be aimed at children but I just read a review and it said the puzzles were a little difficult for children to solve on their own and that he(the reviewer) said he would sneek to play it by himself when the kids were away. They also had another Uncle Albert title I did not buy because it seemed to be a print program. It was called Uncle Alberts Magic something. I cant remember. Has anyone played these games. They came out around the turn of the century.

Gee, thanks. Now I might have to add some more titles to my 'Games To Get' list, just when I thought it was shrinking. Seems I've been in the BAAGS club for quite some time, but just didn't realize it.

Just checked out descriptions of a couple of Uncle Albert games at Amazon. These aren't for me seem a little too juvenile, so I'll pass.

I remember. I was one of the ones who thought that the big celebration should have been 2001. Not 2000. Or were you refering to the Y2K computer crash?

Uncle Albert's Mysterious Island

This one comes in a light green box. I have it somewhere. I played it for about 10 minutes. The game is rather simple and made for children. It isn't bad; just not for me.

I wrote that review for Uncle Albert's Magical Album a couple of years ago, and I had to go back and read it to remember things about the game. It all came back to me, and now I want to play it again! These games are really more about exploring an environment and interacting with the items and creatures by moving them or clicking on them, rather than going on an actual adventure. There are also puzzles that are slightly arcade in nature, but I wouldn't classify them as strictly arcade, because there is no shooting or anything (at least not that I remember). The puzzles are more of the type you find in educational games. I found the game to be really relaxing and interesting. I haven't played the others, but I've read about some of them and I think they are similar to Magical Album. I may be wrong, but I think the game is made by the same people who made Ceremony of Innocence (which I also reviewed, so that type of game is definitely my cup of tea). If you really liked Ceremony of Innocence, you would probably enjoy the Uncle Albert games. They don't have the adult subject matter of Ceremony of Innocence, but they are similar in gameplay and are relaxing and I find them to be a good change of pace.

An interesting bit of game history is that Eric Viennot, the creator of the In Memoriam game also created the first of the Uncle ALbert games.

Nothing wrong with kids games...I started getting hooked on adventure games when my son was little and we played them together. I loved Pagemaster and the Elroy series. I even liked Freddie fish!
