A few years ago, a friend of mine had a personal disaster that was gonna cost a chunk of money. I had just received a huge retroactive pay check, and offered to help out. She started calling me her Fairygodmother, for coming in with help, just in the nick of time. Soon my other friends were calling me that, to tease me, whenever I did something nice. When I first took the name as a signon, you could only have 12 characters, so I left out the O's.

I picked mine, because I'm into fantasy and adventure and the deep down belief that I was a wizard or an alchemist in a previous life Actually I had a very difficult time coming up with a screen name. <img border="0" alt=" " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> The one I chose is not the one I always use. This one was picked just for GBer's. I happen to be watching the Eiger Sanction on the boob tube a while back and Clint Eastwood's character was code named Hemlock. The name kind of fit right in with theme I was in at the time, because I had just finished playing the omega stone and chemicus when I joined this illustrious group of BAAGers.

My favorite aunt, who sadly died last year, gave me this name when I was a little girl (many years ago). She had this thing about giving everybody some silly name - my sister Sue was Soupy, my brother Ray was Rangy, her other nieces were Cookie and Sweet . When I had to register a user name when I got a computer, I felt that this was the time for my silly name. She got the biggest kick out of it when I told her that I had registered as fildil. Fil By the way Nolalou, this aunt was from New Orleans and though I've never been there, she always talked about it so much that I always felt like it was almost a second home.

Mine's just k for my first name (Kim) and wbridge is part of my last name (well, my maiden name). When I first got an email account it's what I came up with (I might have needed 8 characters - I don't really remember) and I've been using it as my username ever since. My email has, however, since changed.
Not really a very interesting story ... :-)

I feel so bad for you all, on my name.
When I first established an online presence, I wanted a name that I could remember, and that wasn't anything in particular. I wanted a name that was not evocative of, well, anything. So, I picked some letters from my first and last name. So far, so good, but what the heck was I thinking - there are no vowels in my online name! What a nightmare for people to spell! I see people struggling to get it right, on every board I contribute to. If I could go back in time and change it, I would do so. Unfortunately, it's too late now, my online presence is established, so I'm keeping it.
Incidentally, please don't worry about getting it right, when you reply to me.

I came up with Flutist because I play flute. I teach flute and play flute in a community orchestra. I also teach and play guitar but I concentrate on flute, hence, "flutist" Flutist

I could have come up with Amber, but that is my dogs name and I didn't want to be considered a b****. Flutist

Shorah (btw that means "peace/greetings" in D'ni, the Myst universe language) Salar is a character from Myst the Book of Atrus. She's nobody famous. Just a friendly villager from the 37th Age who seems to do a lot of laundry. When I first came online one of my very first actions was to google for Cyan & subsequently join Rivenguild. On Riven Lyst I learned about the Myst books for the first time, and I was reading them the same week as trying to pick a screen name for myself. I related strongly to the character of Salar, so I gave that name a whirl. Turned out I was the only one in the Myst community who had ever adopted that name. I found it was uncommon elsewhere so it seemed handy just to keep using it. I added "of Myst" on this forum to indicate the name's origin & give my favourite game in the world a further remembrance. Seems silly now, because everybody here knows Myst, but I have no clue how to shorten it. So there ya are. By now "Salar" is so familiar, I will answer to it just like my birth name. *grins, shrugs & hangs up a few shirts to dry* Susan/Salar

I worked at Charles Schwab brokerage for six years and would use his last name attached to my age at the time I joined the forum (35).
Not very interesting, especially since I no longer work there.
