I have been having that security issue too that some people have been having and I usually have one firefox open for my mail and another firefox open for facebook, gameboards, etc. when I got that alert, I had to close down about 5 firefox things in the task manager. After installing my new video card today (and having that security thing pop open earlier this morning) I decided when I started up my computer and went on firefox that I would look at task-manager. Only 1 firefox should have been open in there but there were two. I am wondering what is causing this?

You really can't open Firefox twice for two things you want to do. You can have multiple TABS though.

Did you close out the extra one? Can't imagine two instances of it running at the same time. Multiple tabs, yes. But not multiple instances of the program. Maybe one didn't close out all the way. You might try looking down in the task manager processes, not applications, BEFORE you open up Firefox. I've had it happen there was an instance of Firefox running down there. When I stopped the process, everything was OK.

Sounds like that adapter was just what you needed. Hope the new card works OK for you!

I think I do. I will park the one firefox and then open up another firefox and so usually I have 2 of them open. I never close them out either when I am on the computer. I was just wondering if that had something to do with that security alert thing that I get. when I get that, there are like 5 firefox things to get out of so firefox seems to be adding them. For all the people that get that alert, I wish they would try that and just click on the firefox thing once and go to taskmanager and see how many are in there. I just thought it was strange that I had 2 after I only clicked on it one time and that was to get to this site. strange.

Apparently it's normal to get multiple processes for Firefox in Task Manager with recent versions of Firefox.

Are you sure you're not talking about have multiple TABS open? Once Firefox is open, you can minimize it and double click on the icon all you want and it won't open itself again.

I've had Firefox not close properly and still be running in my processes as in the link Jenny posted, although it's been a long time since it happened. If it is running in processes, I cannot open it from the icon because it thinks it is already open.

I think it was rmelone here on GB who recently just decided to stay away from Yahoo because of the stupid security alert.

Yes, I am running windows 7 so that might be why this is happening. I am not in a different tab, I click on the firefox on my desktop and get into my mail and then minimize it (or park it, what I call it) to the bottom. Then when I click on the firefox thing on my desktop again, I get a whole new firefox. So, I was thinking I should only have 2 firefox in my task manager showing but sometimes there are more. When I got that security alert thing, I think there were 5 firefox things I had to get out of. I just thought it was strange. Oh well, thanks for getting back to me.

OK... NOW my dense brain has figured out what you mean! Yes, you can do that! But my question would be why open up another instance of Firefox when you can just open up multiple tabs and simply switch between them? That way you will only have Firefox running ONCE, not 3 or 4 or 5 times in the background. I'm sure what is happening when you do this is that one or more of them just didn't get closed out.

Just open new tabs and you won't have this problem!

I really prefer to do it in multiple firefox things. that way I can see at the bottom what I have. when a new tab, it is hard for me to toggle between them. but, I had just restarted the computer after putting in the new video card and went to firefox homepage, went to bookmarks and went to this site and so I only had one open. but, when I went to task manager, it showed 2 firefox working. I was just wondering why there were 2 when I had just 1 open.

If you continue to have multiple instances of Firefox open instead of switching between tabs, this problem will definitely continue. I would suggest opening up your task manager each time you close out Firefox and make sure there isn't still one or two of them running. Not sure how much resources it takes to run multiple instances of a web browser but it could slow your computer down. You can always look in the RAM and CPU usage.

but, still wondering if that is the cause of that security alert that I keep getting?

No... no reason for it to cause that. Who knows... it's Yahoo. Why don't you try using an Ad Blocker like UBlock Origin? Maybe that will help.

I'm just so happy to hear your new video card is working for you!
