mad For me it was Auryn Quest. I was a big fan of the first NeverEnding Story. I was so excited when I heard about this game I could hardly stand it. At the time I was not online so I had to go by what I heard from sales people in EB and Babbages. I guess I expected a true adventure game in the line of the classics and it turned out to be an arcade, action, platform type game. Maybe in third person I would have liked it a little better, but all that jumping in first person was a pain in the butt. Played for about one hour. Uninstalled it. Never installed it again mad

I managed to fight my way through that game but it was a struggle. It could have been such a good game too.

I almost can't believe that I'm saying this, but it has to be Nancy Drew Scarlet Hand. I love ND games but this one had some frustrating spots that seemed glitchy to me. I couldn't trigger events and had to use a walkthrough, and even then I had trouble with it. That should never happen with a Nancy Drew game. If I didn't like Nancy so well, it wouldn't have been a disappointment.

Liath. It was glitchy, and not that much fun. I never really "got" it but I finished it. lol

For me, I think it was Myst Exile......waited and waited and then it was given to me as a gift and it took weeks, literally, and a change of hardware in order to get the thing to run, not to mention all the patches, etc. By the time I got to play it, I was so aggravated that I could not concentrate on it.

I had high hopes for Post Mortem and Full Moon in San Francisco because the dialogue trees were supposed to be different than other games. I finished both but never really got into them as I had expected I would.

For me it was definately Myst, I ran out and bought it immediately, then just to be on the safe side spent the bucks on the tip book,I was so dissapointed, I really wanted to like the game, but it just wasnt my cup of tea. frown

I can't say Myst - because it was the first game I saw. I can say that if I hadn't bought a few more games (initially for the kids) it would have been the last game I played. Myst didn;t do much for me at all when I first saw it.

Hmmm Chateau D'or was a huge disappointment. But since the criteria is really anticipated and then smashed - I would say Nine. Had this great cast, sounded like a great plot all that. Blech. rolleyes

I really hate to say this, but I'm going to have to say Nancy Drew Haunted Carousel. While I really did like the game, I was very very disappointed about the length of the game and how easy it was. Definitely a bummer!! devil

Adventure at Chateau D'Or.
I paid $40 for that thing when it first came out. Sold it for less than half that.
I just wanted to get it out of the house
so I wouldn't be reminded of my wasted money.

Ever since then I've been FAR more careful about what I buy.
And I've never been AS disappointed since.
I've been disappointed in some games,
but nothing got me as steamed as that Cheateau game.

I haven't played TOS yet, I'm hoping to enjoy it.

I was disappointed in Myst Exile too. Beautiful graphics, but it just seemed like huge connecting puzzles and soooo cold. It lacked something the others had. I'll start it over one of these days and give it another shot though. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood.

I was also disappointed in Chateau D'or. I kept a watch on the screenshots and just drooled. Although it was a pretty game, the length and the school work were less than desirable. And I payed over $40 for it.

For me, I have to say Crystal Key and Schizm. Schizm because the disk, and replacement disk, were faulty, caused severe lags during playing (something I never experienced with the Myst series or ROTS). I have yet to continue playing Schizm because of the disks. While the graphics of Crystal Key were nice, the logic, and determining, of what needed doing left much to be desired.

I was extremely disappointed in Sherlock Holmes, Mystery of the Mummy as I didn't feel it properly represented old Sherlock at all. In fact Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (not sure of spelling) is probably turning over in his grave as we speak.

Also, although most probably consider this more action than adventure I was very disappointed in Lara Croft's newest, TROAD.

'Of Light and Darkness' really put me into a blue funk. It was about the 4th game I bought, so beautiful and exotic. happydance
Also bought the (two pound??)book, and spent literally WEEKS reading it, trying to figure out the gameplay theory.
When I finally loaded it, I meandered around the opening plaza for about an hour attempting to somehow get the story going, then sadly removed it from the 'puter forever and myself to sleep.

Omega Stone

RotS is one of my very favorite games, and I was sooooooo excited about TOS. Called EB every day to see if it had arrived yet. And then when we finally got to play it....

dull
drab
depressing
boring

and completely lacking in all the FUN part of the puzzling that made RotS such a joy.

I can't say that Schizm was as much of a disappointment because we didn't have all the built-up anticipation for it. But if ever there was a game that failed to live up to its potential, Schizm has to be it.

I suppose it would be any game I didn't finish, cause I don't have enough time to finish games that suck, when there are better ones waiting to be played! These include Crystal Key, Beyond Atlantis, Dracula Resurrection, Riven (OK I finished that one - didn't suck, just too hard), King's Quest 8 for all the running around and fighting. I think KQ8 tops them all, because it followed 7 great classic games.

Just terrible.

Shivers 2 was also the first game I played where I met a dead end because of a game bug - a video wouldn't trigger the appearance of an item that was necessary to progress in the game.

Definitely The Omega Stone. Especially since I played ROTS right before and enjoyed it so much. Was so excited to be able to continue with a sequel. As soon as I started playing it was like someone knocked all the joy out of me. frown

A much as I like point and click first person games, my vote has to go to Omega Stone. This was one game that did not measure up to the hype it created. Please do not misunderstand me, it was not a bad game but it was not nearly as good as they sad it would be. TROS was such a good game, in spite of the fact that some say the graphics were grainy. I think that we were lead to expect too much from Omega Stone. The story was chopped up and branched into unfinished sidelines. The wanderings underground were depressing and the fact that we had to traverse the hedge maze several timed did not endear the game to me. The end was abrupt and than we were treated to the ramblings of an unsympathetic character to top it all.

Riddle of the Sphinx- I couldn't wait to play it, but found that it didn't match up to the games i've played so far. There were some long, dark, tedious passages to get thru and all the rooms were sort of alike- ROTS couln't even begin to measure up to the game I'm playing now-Thief the Dark Project, where each level has an entirely original environment-or say, Zork nemisis.

There are so many excellent older games out there, It should be difficult to find a loser if one shops carefully enough.

I completely agree with Ramona. Mystery of the Druids was the most disappointing game I have ever played. I was very excited when I purchased it and rushed home to install it immediately. I ended up wanting to get it over with even more than I had originally wanted to play it.

Myst III: Exile is my second place winner. I liked the other Myst games, but Exile just didn't seem to fit. duh

Many would disagree, but I would say Faust was my biggest disappointment.

Simon 3D.
After the charm of the first two games it was a big disappointment, was very buggy and had way too many 'action bits'.In fact if it hadn't been for the members here I'd never have finished it.Even the ending good as it was wasn't good enough for me to keep the game and I traded it away.

Still have Simon 1 and 2 to enjoy though. laugh

Incog.

I'am afraid to say this but for me it was syberia. After all the hype and the long wait I just found something lacking in it, I just didn't find what most of you raved about even though I wanted to very much. I did like it but was disappointed somehow, hope 2 is more to my liking.

Well, if you liked it at all, it can't have been a total bummer.
Maybe a halfways bummer. laugh
