I thought I would post this subject as a result of the recent posting made by Threads (Cameron Files - Amenophis) and the reply by Jenny100.

The second game in the Cameron Files series was entitled 'Pharaoh's Curse' when I purchased it and I very nearly purchased it again under the name 'Amenophis' but was alerted when reading the review of this game.

I would very much like to hear whether or not there are any other adventure games published under completely different titles and .....

Do you think the second publisher of the 'changed title' should be required to display the original title alongside the new title??

I come across this websites that might shed some light & help with any confusion-
www.amenophis.tacgames.com
www.spiele-idealo.de/102R13P14453K1_Amenophis.
I haven't played the game yet but looks like the same to me. It must be the overseas title.

It's the same game alright! Do you know of any similar games with different titles?

Dreamcatcher changed the names of many of the European games that were made by Cryo when they republished them for North America.

Aztec became Sacred Amulet
Louvre: The Final Curse became The Messenger
Pompeii became Timescape
Atlantis II became Beyond Atlantis
Atlantis III became Beyond Atlantis II
Faust became Seven Games of the Soul
Thorgal: Odin's Curse became Curse of Atlantis (milking the Atlantis name for all it's worth)

Check the different boxes for Mysterious Journey 2 (North American) and Schizm 2: Chameleon (European)

The 1st game in the 'Broken Sword' series was called "Circle of Blood" in the USA, and "Broken Sword" in Europe. The sad part is appearntly someone thought the word 'blood' in the title would appeal more to American buyers!

It does get confusing! In some cases it was just a marketing decision, but in other cases there were trademark or copyright reasons the name had to be changed.

I read the original title for Auryns Quest was The Real Neverending Story. Whether or not it was released in Europe as such I could never find out. Also Blade of Darkness was Severance In Europe.

"Auryn's Quest" was never released as "The Real Neverending Story." The original project, which was much more of an adventure game, was scrapped and "Auryn's Quest" was developed to take its place.

I almost did not buy BS1 when it first came out as when I saw the title Circle of Blood I thought this was a hack and slash game.I often wonder how many action oriented gamers bought it for that reason and where suprised to find out it was not what they thought

And then there are the Gabriel Knight series,1,2 and 3, that are very rarely referred to by their real names: "The Sins of the Fathers", "The Beast Within", and "Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned."

Crikey! I never thought there would be so many varying titles for the same games - keep 'em coming - it may just save one of us buying the same game twice under a different guise! eek

Another dreamcatcher title: Cydonia became Lightbringer. Think the Arthur Knight games also have different titles.

Never resist a generous impulse.

There's Discworld II: Missing Presumed... and Discworld II: Mortality Bytes!

I think Reah had different box art and subtitles for US vs UK releases, too....
