Hello there fellow boomers! Phew, with my Scottish holiday over, I am back at work on Dark Fall II. Yippee! There has been a delay in production, due to extra work needing to be completed for the commercial release of Dark Fall : The Journal. I am very much looking forward to new feedback on the game, as I feel slightly left out! Whereas before I sold each copy myself, I now have no idea who is buying it and where. Has anyone found it on a store shelf yet? If so, try and snap me a digital pic of it, for the XXv Productions scrapbook! Having said that, if any proud Dark Fall owners want to send me a pic of themselves with the new box, please do! The portraits can illustrate my reviews book. Expert photography not essential. Anyway, back to work! Jonathan www.xxvproductions.co.uk

Jonathan, WOW! I got my copy today at Media Play in Colorado. I don't have a way to take a pic, but please know I am one very happy customer. I have been playing all day today. Great story, and spooky too. My favorite kind of game. If I wasn't falling asleep sitting up I would still be playing! Thank you for making me one very happy gamer! This is truly a magnificent creation.

Got mine on Thursday at EB. Played for about 30 minutes to get a feel for the game. Will play through as soon as I finish Vampire: The Masquerade. Good luck with DF2. Hope you make a killing on DF1.

We, BacardiJim and I, got our game Thursday at Software Etc. here in Little Rock, AR. We were estatic. We are truly loving this game. It installed like a dream on our WinXP system, and is playing beautifully. The atmosphere is wonderful. You even have BacardiJim, a well seasoned adventure gamer, jumping in his seat with unexpected specters. The freedom to explore the hotel with no set agenda is so refreshing after playing so many linear games. Only have one small regret with the game play so far, I wish I had thought to write down each room as we explored it with what it contained. That way we would not have been forced to resort to a walkthrough when we forgot where the top half of the rune photo was. {Our problem, really had nothing to do with the game itself.}
We had a bit of frustration with our local EB Games stores with mysteriously changing release/in-store dates. Had pre-paid for the game and everything. We eventually got a refund when the other store finally got their copies in. It took right about a week from when it was shipped from Adventure Co.
We are also regulars on the forum at The Adventure Company.
Once my other half wakes up today, we will get a pic of us with the game and send it to you.
Thanks for a wonderful game and keep up the good work. We need people like you out there making the stuff that feeds our gaming habit.

Jonathan, only for you would I trudge through game stores looking for computer games [cough, cough]. But since this is important research, I shall sally forth into the world of brick and mortar, camera in hand, in search of Dark Fall. Oh, did I tell you Largo Winch arrived??? If not, it did

So, I go to the mall with my son to buy school clothes today and while he's picking out shirts I head across the way to Software Etc. just to check things out mind you, and what do I see between Dark Ages of Camelot and Darkened Skye? You got it - Dark Fall Not the box art I chose mind you, but there it was none the less. I, of course, commented to everyone within hearing range (and I talk loud so that pretty much included everyone in the store at the time and quite possibly the stores next door too) that I knew the game developer before the fancy box art and what a sweetheart he is and everyone should buy his game. Well, it must have worked because as I stood there, the last two copies were purchased But I forgot to take a picture!!!! It was also pretty darn cool to see RHEM in it's boxed up form too. To think, we knew them when

Argh!
It's so frustrating! Maybe I should have a holiday in the US, just so that I can see the game on the shelves. I haven't even seen the artwork in the flesh yet.
I am thrilled to hear that it is disappearing off the shelves though! Especially thankful to Syd for your free promotions! (Glad that Largo finally arrived, did he have trouble squeezing through the mailbox? He looked like quite a slim fellow).
This topic is turning into a bizarre ornithology like hunt! Has anyone else seen the Lesser Spotted Dark Fall in their area?
Great news about Rhem too. Looks like the independents are finding a serious foothold in the malls of America!

Hey Jonathan, Didn't you get a complimentary copy of the new version, since you made the game an'all? That's a bit mean of the publisher if you didn't. Great game by the way.

Hi all, It is great to hear that it's disappearing from the shelves! Whether or not it is for supernatural reasons we will just have to wonder.... My complimentary copies should be through any day now, so I will finally get to see Dark Fall in the flesh, as it were. Thanks for your continued posts and snooping! Jonathan P.s. This is all very inspiring, especially as I work away on Dark Fall II : Lights Out .

Just got my copy from Amazon today. EB kept changing release dates, Babbages had it then didn't have it. Bestbuy never heard of it. Comp USA is always 1 - 2 weeks behind everybody. Just ran the intro to see what it looks like. The sound really impresses me already. Going to play a little then come back with feedback.

I called around to the Best Buy stores and they don't have it. The guy I talked to did know about it, however. They don't know if they will be getting it or not. I've noticed that Adventure Company games tend to arrive at the Best Buy stores (in Indiana, at least) at a slower rate than they arrive at stores like Target and Walmart (department stores). I would take it with a healthy dose of "oh well," because they don't have Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel yet, either, and it's very well known. When I get to Target, etc. next I will check for Dark Fall. Now that I've seen Pandora's images of the inside of the box (which is delicious), I'm not sure I can keep myself from buying the game again!! If the U.S. version of the actual game is very close to the original, my Midwestern practicality will probably win out. If there were a couple of significantly different puzzles in the U.S. version, I probably would buy it again, though!!

The moon is actually more useful than the sun since the moon gives us light at night when it's dark. The sun only gives us light during the day when it's already bright out.

Pandora's Box.
Thanks for that!

P.s. Is the box textured? It looks slightly embossed in the photos.

You haven't seen the actual real-life box? Okay, a description follows:
The silver shell-patterned triangles in the corners of the front of the box have a faint texture to them. There is a darker border on the bottom of each triangle that is more textured. The black Dark Fall letters on the front of the box are raised, as are the black letters on the spines and the top of the box. On the back of the box are screenshots of the station exterior with the hotel in the background, the attic where there is a candle, and two significant underground locations, (the one with the pillars and the one with the tablets).
You open up the box cover and see more silver shell triangles (these are not textured). Inside the shell-patterned triangles is a view of the attic. It looks a bit different from what I remember in the game. You see old chairs, a suitcase, a historical portrait in a frame, some crates and that burner device that stumped me so badly. The picture is distorted on the right by a swirling ghost-like image.
I've never noticed texture on gameboxes before. Now I'm going to go and run my fingers all over my entire collection....

If anyone in the UK wants this version, there's one on eBay - if I'm not mistaken, I don't think the TAC version is available in the UK.

I was wondering the same thing about Dark Fall 2 - do the Adventure Company publish in the UK or anywhere in Europe? If not, where do we get the game from? Will it be published over here by someone else?

Hi Jonathan, I posted a few messages on Gameboomers a long time ago, but have forgotten my login name. Just wanted to let you know how well Dark Fall sold at a certain store in my area of the US. I like to shop for stuff at Fry's Electronics. It's a consumer electronics chain in the western US. Each of the outlets is a HUGE store. The store in my area has a great game section, PC and console. Well, on one of my many trips to Fry's, I saw Dark Fall on the shelf. I thought I would keep a tally of how well Dark Fall sold. Here's the numbers:
August 31 -- There were 20 copies on the shelf. I took 1, leaving 19 copies.
September 7 -- 14 copies on the shelf.
September 21 -- 8 copies.
September 28 -- 5 copies.
October 4 -- 2 copies.
October 12 -- 0 copies on shelf! sold out!
Awesome! It took a little over a month for 20 games to sell! And there could have been more than 20 before August 31, I just happened to see the game on the shelf that day. I also buy games from another department store chain called Fred Meyers, an "everything" store. So far, I have not seen Dark Fall at Fred Meyers. It's so incredibly awesome that you got your game published. I know I'd be in orbit for *months* if a game I made was published. Well, I thought ya might be interested to know this! Awaiting Dark Fall 2!
