Hi.

I was burning some of my GOG Game downloads to disk earlier and all went well until I started "Where the Water Tastes Like Wine".
It had three patches so I attempted to burn all three - along with the two setup files.

During the burning, the process halted before it was complete and came up with an error message saying each of the patches had been "re-named" woozy

I've never encountered that before.

So then I got to wondering whether I shouldn't be downloading all the patches ??

Can anyone please advise ??

Cheers.

Mad headscratch

Hi Mad,
That usually happens when all files/patches are the exact same name, so your burning software will rename it, otherwise it will just Overwrite the patch therefore you would only wind up with One patch, so it is good that your Burning software did this.
If it is the case that all 3 patches have the same name and you do not want to see "Renaming... " Just simply rename your patches i.e Patch.exe, Patch.exe, Patch.exe to Patch01.exe, Patch02.exe, Patch03.exe.
Don't worry about renaming the patches, they will work just the same as before.

I hope this make sense, if not, as usual, wait for the Real experts to explain it more clearly.

Hi Starcom - And thanks for replying smile

I am never sure, when multiple patches are shown, whether they are "updating each other" or "all are required" woozy

These are the three patches showing at GOG .... So which parts of them should I alter ??

patch_where_the_water_tastes_like_wine_1.3.1_(19983)_to_1.4_(21207

patch_where_the_water_tastes_like_wine_1.4.1_(21347)_to_1.4.2_(21407)

patch_where_the_water_tastes_like_wine_1.4_(21207)_to_1.4.1_(21347)

Hi again Mad,
Actually you shouldn't have to alter any of them since they not numbered the same or should I say they are not Exactly the same, so the software should have taken all of them.

Usually as a rule of thumb, one should only have to install the latest patch which should contain all the fixes in the previous patch(es).

If you still wish to Burn all 3 patches, just rename the patches at the beginning of each patch i.e.:

01patch_where_the_water_tastes_like_wine_1.3.1_(19983)_to_1.4_(21207

02patch_where_the_water_tastes_like_wine_1.4.1_(21347)_to_1.4.2_(21407)

03patch_where_the_water_tastes_like_wine_1.4_(21207)_to_1.4.1_(21347)

and hopefully the Burning software you are using should accept them all.

Good luck

Thank you again, Starcom thumbsup

However, before I go ahead with anything, I've posted a note on the GOG Community Board to see if someone can positively say whether I need to use all three patches or if just the latest will do.

You might not need any of the patches at all depending on what version of the main game you downloaded. The patches are provided for people who previously downloaded an older version of the main game and don't want to re-download the whole thing.

So if you already have version 1.4.2 of the main game, and version 1.4.2 is the latest version of the game, there's no need to download a patch that's intended to patch from version 1.3.1 to 1.4.2 -- or any patch at all.

And if you have version 1.4.1 of the main game you'd only want the version of the patch that patches from 1.4.1 of the game to 1.4.2. You'd have no use for the patch that patches from 1.3.1 to 1.4.2.

I am always grateful for help and thank you again !! yes

Jenny100 ..

I've not sorted it as I'm not too well at the moment due to the current UK heat wave. But I have checked my game version and looking at your advice won't need to apply ANY patches !! dance
