Ha! I just got my second clothing item, and my first Relto page. I won't say what I got, but it's pretty and will come in handy at Christmas. rotfl

I only have one clothing item. I hoped it would provide an interesting extra type of vision in the sunny version of the Cleft, but so far it hasn't.

I read all the books in Relto. Am currently compounding all kinds of wild theories based on these books. The Watcher must have been quite a guy. Numerically challenged, just like me. NOW they tell me that the numbers only make sense after you know everything.

Going back to read them again.

I haven't read all the books yet. I found it pretty tough sledding when there are new worlds to explore. I've had some highly interesting experiences in the watery place, hint hint.

Happy exploring Becky! happydance

Yes, the watery place is great!!! I've been bullying the wildlife. Hope the game doesn't hold it against me later.

There is a very strange phenomenon in the watery place that has me perplexed. Is it the way the sun reflects on something(s)? But I don't actually see the sun. Maybe in time I will understand it.

So far the only numbers I've had to deal with involve just counting things. YESSS!!! A math puzzle I can solve, just about first grade level. I'm a bit cross-eyed from this activity, but I think I'm on the right track.

Good for you! You did better than me. It never occured to me an Uru puzzle would require something as simple as counting. I could have done it! I have ten fingers...

I have progressed (with a little walkthrough help) and I now have my second clothing item and second Relto page! It's beautiful! I just had to hop out on an island and get a picture of it.

Annie very happy! rotfl

I am currently addicted to the books in Relto. I keep reading them, and then going to check things in various worlds. Way too many ideas popping into my head, hardly any of them sensible. But then again, you never know....

Have come up with seven different meanings (literal and figurative) for what dry bones might be.

Somehow disrupted the mating cycle of the three-cornered crabs. After booting them all into the ocean (a task I found strangely enjoyable) I returned to find the world devoid of crabs AND water.

The booting seemed like just a harmless little activity. It was so much fun to watch the crabs skittering everywhere. The way they would poise on the edge of the abyss, just before they took the long dive was so cute! And one of them took me a full ten minutes to chase down. That must have been the Uber-crab.

Anyway, I was thinking of resetting the world (patch up my mistake) until I helped out in one of the threads in Hints, where it seems that there isn't a way to progress without hunting crabs. This makes me feel a bit better, though not much.

My own theory about the sequence -- Yeesha is showing us some of the mistakes she made while teaching herself the "Art". We are learning how precarious and tightly balanced each world is.

I am intrigued by the passage in the books that talks about things that appear as four but actually are seven. I think this refers to the Bahro. If they actually are seven, rather than four, it would explain why the Bahro caves have so many dry bones sticking out of the walls.

Thanks, Becky. I am still following you -- I think that's you I can just make out far ahead, but I still have a long ways to go in the books.

BTW, why why did you blow up the Great Zero?!

I was very gentle with the crabs til one turned on me and tried to take my toes. Then they all had to go. mad

Actually, Becky, I can't understand the logical reason why that puzzle works in the particular way it does - and it seems everyone has a different theory.

But I think that whatever the reason for it, it's Kadish, not Yeesha, who is to blame. Ahohnay is one of Kadish's worlds and the way it operates is his invention rather than Yeesha's.

Ahhh -- thank you Aussie. I will think Kadishly. That explains a lot.

Still, Yeesha wants us to see it/experience it, or else all those little shell numbers wouldn't be all over the place, would they?

Annie -- as to the bombing action -- well I thought the Gathered needed an extra challenge. Repairing the Great Zero will sharpen their mechanical skills.

If you want to be one of the Few who will Finish, you might as well distract the Many who are Gathered. laugh

I've been wondering about the "Who will finish? Few." line. Does that mean that few will finish without assistance? Or is there a game ending that is obscure enough that only a few will see it? Or is the line referring to something completely different, perhaps something in D'ni history?

Well, I've finished! Except for the Easter Egg. I doubt that I count as one of the Few, however, as I had to have mucho help. Spoilers:

In spite of all the hints the Watcher gives us, it would never never never have occured to me to stand around and wait for 15 minutes for something to happen, and not just once but three times (not counting several other times because, not having gotten the puzzles right, I had to do them over again).

A couple of questions:

Is the big ball I spent so much time pushing up the path just a big round (hairy) red herring?
Also, at one point while linking around (I think it was in the Ahnonay chapter), I found myself in a huge room with an enormous statue. What is this place and how can I get there again?

A couple of comments:

I loved the game! Wonderful places to go, neat stuff to fix up my Relto.

Not too keen however on wearing Atrus' and Catherine's clothes! rotfl rotfl rotfl

Oh, and one last questions: Has anyone managed to kick one of those logs that have been laying around into to the fireplace? I figure that's what they are for, but so far I've only managed to roll three of them down the hill.

I don't know. It's not clear whether Yeesha placed those markers. Since the 'Path of the Shell' was around in Kadish's day, and you need to use the markers to get to certain key locations within the Age, I'm inclined to think that they were actually placed by Kadish.

It would seem so. When Kadish built the Path of the Shell he seems to have put that in as a bit of misdirection to keep the hoi polloi guessing as to how he did it.

If you want a full explanation I suggest you post in the Hints forum. However, this statue is in Ahnonay Vers 4. You can't reach this version via the cathederal, but you can get there via your linking book from Relto. Remember what you did in order to access Control Centre No 4 and get to Kadish's private area? Well, when you first arrive in Control Centre No 4, link back to Relto then link into Ahnonay using your book. If Ahnonay is configured correctly at that point, you should arrive in the statue area.

Aussie -- couldn't have been Kadish -- didn't know our numbering system (would have used D'ni numbers).

Are the shell cloth things clearly from Yeesha?

Okay, I misunderstood you - thought you were speaking about the shell markers, rather than the verse numbers.

I don't think the shell markers are clearly from Yeesha. If they weren't around in Kadish's day, how did Kadish get inside the tower in Ahnonay (given that there's no way of opening it from outside), or get to his control room? The shell symbol also seems to have been around in the time of the D'ni because there is an image of it in the Great Zero (not to mention the happenings at the co-ordinates at the end of To D'ni).

However, you also have to consider that at the end of Uru Prime, Yeesha says to you that "the symbol of the journey must change" and traces a shell symbol, suggesting that the journey in Path of the Shell could be another Yeesha journey. The shell markers also have a similar power to the journey cloths, which were supposedly posted by Yeesha. But they also work differently - there is no need to 'collect' shell markers like you 'collected' journey cloths in Prime, and you don't need to touch all of the shell markers to work your way through the game.

Hey Aussie -- Sorry I don't have the lingo down correctly yet!

I'm still only partway through POTS, so I'm guessing about Yeesha's possible role in leaving shell markers vs. Kadish's. I assumed the shell image in the GZ was put there by Yeesha (or possibly Zandi) since the background picture over which the shell is drawn shows the location where the "shell-in-air" is drawn when the Great Zero laser sweeps by. The "shell-in-air" takes you to the rest-stop halfway to the surface -- something I don't think Kadish would have known about.

As for how Kadish got to his contol rooms or into the Tower in Ahnonay -- couldn't he have had linking books for each location?

The shell markers seem to be so similar to the journey cloths -- did Kadish have access to that technology? I thought the D'ni had figured out how to link using books only.

By the end of the game have we learned more about Kadish? (I'm getting really curious about the old guy). There's probably some stuff about him in the journals in other parts of the game. I might have to go do some re-searching.

I don't claim to have the lingo correct either! Just my little misunderstanding.

As for learning stuff about Kadish - we really don't seem to learn anything more than what is written in the journal in Kahlo Pub beside the Er'cana and Ahnonay books, and the things we deduce for ourselves when wandering through the ages. What we can work out seems to be that he was a bit of a twit who went to great lengths to try to persuade people that he was the Grower...but of course he wasn't.

I dont know about others who have played POTS but I was dissappointed in it. There were really no puzzles to solve that meant anything. All the linking back and forth, the the long time waits and replaying Kadish and Gahreesen just to get articles of clothing and it just ended at a dead stop. I looks like the people who made it ran out of ideas so they just linked, waited and replayed.

Hey everyone,

just finished Path of the Shell. Very cool game, although I nearly got Link Sickness from all the linking I had to do in Ahnonay. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yes, I got Link Sickness, too, but there's lots of time to recover while you're waiting for pellets to cook. Did you enjoy it? I thought it was a blast! The clothes, the quabs, the swimming! Mmmmmmmm
