The five clue words are derived from an answer word that’s made up of at least eight letters, none of which is repeated. The letters of each clue word appear in the answer word in left-to-right order, though, not necessarily consecutively. For example: the letters in Colt can be found in Complexity, as can the letters in Comply, Exit, Met and Pity. Every letter of the answer appears at least once in the clue words, and one clue word in each set appears in the answer intact (Exit in the example). As has become traditional, win bonus points and the admiration of your peers for using all five clues and the answer in a suitable sentence. (But not a requirement) -1. and hair ark had wok -2. slag tin put scan pea (s) -3. nay tar vary lay out (v) -4. line foe lies lam fig (f) -5. bid ace bake lid base -6. coy ail foul ace fats (f) -7. lose use hoe pay hue -8. hie con lit ate rat -9. hop sit her oft lie (s) -10. bay rail thy bet eat (b)

10. Heartbeat.
bay rail thy bet eat
The first time was down at the bay, standing next to the rail with Sally, sure she could hear his heartbeat pounding in his chest, when Billy said I am "Thy Guy" and bet you're ready to eat right now!

This is actually a very difficult puzzle. Throw in the directions-skimmers (you know who you are) and it becomes almost impossible. Throw in my occasional typo and it's just a free-for-all. I'll post first-letter hints and hope for the best.
