Don't forget The Forgotten, horrific atmospherics in a much too short game.

Dark Fall is probably at the top of most lists in this genre, for good reason. I'd rank Amber up there, too, though it's spooky and haunting, not exactly "scary". I'm going to actively say "Shivers", both 1 & 2, though 1 is more pure horror. And as mentioned, The Dark Eye is also excellent.

Yes. I think Blackstone Chronicles is the best horror game I've played. It's probably the best game I've played ever! I haven't played too many of the old ones. I have played Zork Nemesis, but get Blackstone Chronicles. I loved the story, how your in an Insane Asylum and you get to talk to the guests. Muhahahahah!

Did anyone mention Shivers (1)? Scariest game for me, made me jump out of my skin....
