If a new save is overriding an older save, then it sounds like you have run out of available save game slots and need to delete some older saved games.

You need to follow the walkthrough step by step in order to make sure that you don't miss anything important. I can't really think of any new advice to give you that I haven't already stated, including watching a YouTube video to see how you get through this particular section of the game.

Congratulations. I have not played Overseer, but people who like Tex Murphy games seem to like it very much. I don't know whether there are timed parts, although there are usually some tricky parts in these games.
