Hi, I am ready to assemble the weapon, but I found that I was missing the piece from the puzzle box which I had not completed earlier in the game, so I went waaaaay back to a previous save, got the part and came back to my present save, but the part is not in my inventory. Does this mean I have to go back to the previous save and replay from there, or is there a way I can return to the cottage from the volcano and get the part?

I have no idea, but I know we have some Lighthouse players here, so let's wait and see what they have to say about this. smile

I can't remember if you can get back to the lighthouse from the volcano but you CAN from the temple.
So can you get to the temple from the volcano ?
If you can then that's the way to go to get the missing part smile

so that means I have to get back on the train, then take the submarine to the temple and go through the portal to the cottage ? I can't remember where I got on the train, and I already have the part in a new save (40) and the save where I have to assemble the weapon is save(39). I wonder if I go all the way back to the cottage will the part still be there, since I already went waaaay back to an earlier save and got it.--I know this sounds so convoluted.

Doreen

can I delete that last save I made when I got the part?

I'm nervous of giving you the wrong advice, dorish, since I can't remember my previous plays in clear enough detail - and on my current replay, although I've not yet reached the volcano, I HAVE solved the box puzzle in the lighthouse.

However, you could actually download an appropriate save from the profuse collection Louis has on his site, rather than doing anything too risky otherwise ....
(His saves are all clearly labelled.)

I'm not on my computer right now but could send you the site address when I am.

Just let me know .. OK ?? grin

hi Mad, Thanks for your patience. I went into Louis' website and into the part where he has the Lighthouse saves, but I can't access them. Its telling me that I may not have the necessary permissions to open the file.

If you post a note over in Glitches, I believe they can help you with that message. I think it's a simple thing, like maybe making sure you are running as the administrator, but they can tell you exactly what to do.

Thanks, Marian !! smile

I downloaded the saves myself some weeks ago without any problem, dorish.
[Just in case I might need to use one at some time in the game.]

So I hope the issue can be resolved for you yes

EDIT :

See your PM's smile

The savegames of Louis are made with the game from GOG with ScummV.
The saves will probally don't work in the original CD version.

p.s. I just downloaded the file with the saves, just click on it and the file is downloaded, unpack the RAR file and choose the right save.

Dorish,
Just to be clear, if you go back to a previous save to fix or change something, you must continue from there in order to have the change work. In your case, it would mean replaying everything you did up until the point you discovered you didn't have the proper item. You should be able to get back to the house from the volcano, but it is a long trip, so I hope the save works for you.

You can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by playing Lighthouse following Louis Koot's ALTERNATE walkthrough of Lighthouse, which allows you to bypass that puzzle. and a few others as well/ I just finished playing the game getting a fairly good ending (The baby Amanda rescue). HAPPY GAMING!

I suppose it depends on whether you want to play the FULL game or the slightly shorter, alternative version laugh

I have played both, Mad, but at my age,I no longer had the patience for those complicated puzzles, as long as I could attain the "good" ending.

I've just recently re-played the game myself, Sanford, and did the full version. But I certainly needed some peeks at the walkthrough from Louis laugh

And probably at some time I will try the alternative version as well. Never played that before grin

This amazing game was made in such a way that you can never get hopelessly stuck.
There is always a way back to the lighthouse. You might need to return to the temple in order to open a portal. Remember to set your destination before opening it and walking through.

Back at the lighthouse, you can retrieve the piece from the puzzle box, then create a new portal to return to Martin's Roost. Yes, you will need to travel back to the volcano, but certainly not have to "replay" everything to get there.

As for your question "can I delete save 40" - you don't need to; just ignore it and use 39 or whatever you need to.
And don't try to open an old save and expect to jump back into a later save.

That's what I mentioned to dorish but I think she just got fed up with the whole caboodle.
Can't say I blame her. Lighthouse is NOT an easy game eek
