I just got a notification of an update to Malwarebytes.
I stupidly installed it, but it is a 14 day trial thing. Can I go back to my free one ? Please help me. Thank you. Or will it automatically go back to my free version after 14 days ?

Cathy, I believe it will automatically go back to the free version in 14 days - they will ask you if you want to purchase the upgrade and you can say no. I just got that update message too and ignored it - I think it's kind of sneaky the way they do this, as it's easy to assume that the update involves the free version and not the one you pay for.

Yes, what Marian said is the way it works. When you say "no" to purchasing the upgrade, it just goes back to the free version. They've been doing this for a few years now. You would know the update isn't free when they ask for your credit card!

I have to say I'm sick of Malwarebytes suddenly appearing on screen - even in the middle of my playing a game !! thumbsdown

The "obligatory" trial for the Pro version was foisted on me about ten days ago, when I agreed to accept what I thought was going to be a normal update - and since then "Scan Results" have popped up at the most inconvenient of times, due to this trial version permanently running in the background.

I will be SO glad when the two week trial comes to an end rolleyes

I have the paid for version and I don't think it's ever popped up on me regarding scan results, however, when it is time to "update", it does pop up constantly if you don't do the update right away, which is very annoying.

I find it particularly annoying that the update notice pops up with my free version, leading me to think that there is a free-version update. Instead, it updates you to the trial for the paid version, with the annoyances mentioned above. As I said before, I think it is a sneaky way of going about things.

Wow, that is sneaky. I have the paid for version and I've never gotten a popup ever except when there is a full version update.

What this indicates is that Malwarebytes is running in the background and in your Startup programs. You can fix this by making sure through your Task Manager that Malwarebytes is not in your Startup Programs.

Well I don't understand why the paid version doesn't automatically update. I think it used to as I certainly don't remember getting pop up notices to do the update. That seems to have started recently.

I already checked my start-up programmes via task Manager and Winptrol, Draclvr, but Malwarebytes doesn't appear on either - unless it goes by some other name ?? crazy

Try the Processes tab... see if it's listed in there.

Ahhhh .... I found it there, thank you Draclvr, and "ended" it .... despite being warned I could get an unstable system by doing so !!

So next time I boot up the machine ( providing it's not become unstable and does boot up evil ) I'll take a look to see if it's re-appeared.

It will probably reappear, but at least you can stop the darned popup while you're using your computer.
