She asked me for recommendations, but I don't use laptops so am no help to her. She doesn't have time to get something built as school started yesterday lol

She said she could spend around $7-800.00, and is looking for a Windows based machine. She'd use it for school and perhaps to stream movies. Told her I'd ask here as you guys are much more knowledgeable about this subject than I.

Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience.

Since school has already started, she should probably just shop around locally to see what's available at places like Best Buy, Staples, or whatever shop sells laptops in your area. See what size screen is comfortable to use and which laptop's keyboard has an acceptable feel. If you get a laptop that's too small, it won't be comfortable to type on and the screen resolution may be such that some programs don't fit on the screen. Also check out the touchpad.

Check the websites of the shops near you for ratings and user reviews for the laptops they sell. The websites sometimes have a feature to say which laptops are in stock at a particular store, though this isn't always 100% accurate.

Get a laptop that has all the ports you need. Make sure it has enough USB ports. You don't want to be dragging around a bunch of adapters to class.

Can't add much more to what Jenny said. If she's going to be lugging it around, then weight is going to be a consideration. Another thing to think about is the battery life. If she is going to have it with her all day, a good long battery life will be important if she won't always be in a place where she can plug it in. I got one similar to this one for my grandson. He's 6' 7" tall and a big guy, so a little cramped keyboard wouldn't work for him. He also wanted a bigger main SSD and a stand-alone video card. But that one was around $800 at that time. He liked it because if he just wanted to stream a movie, he could prop it up.
