I'm lost in the Nursery, upstairs in the manor. I need a DRAWER HANDLE. I have the CE version, so I peeked at the Game Guide. On the top of Page 17, it says, " (In the Nursery) "Zoom into the sparkles and play the HOS - get the DRAWER HANDLE." This is helpful, except that I cannot find such a scene. The only two opportunities to zoom into something in the Nursery are the crib (w/the Frankenstein monkey and the spider) and the tabletop where the lion and clown sit. I've worked both those scenes. And they look nothing like the HOS shown in the Game Guide.

What should I do?

Maybe looking at a different walkthrough would help?

At least this way you can double-check things.

Thanks, Marian. It looks like the same WT.

This is very curious. The background image for the location of the HOS is there, but it is inactive, which leads me to believe I already did it in an earlier visit to this room yesterday or the day before (there is a bit of "open-tree" to this game's play). But if so, I should have the HANDLE in my Inventory ~ and I don't.

I guess I'll go on and try to play some other side quests and see what happens. Eventually, though, I will not be able to continue.

I haven't played this game in a long time.
I'll start it up and see if I have the same problem.

There may be more than one drawer handle -- or more than one thing that looks like a drawer handle.

Just figured it out. While playing further on in the game, I noticed that the FUSE was back in my Inventory. As soon as I saw it there again, I figured it had popped back into my Inventory because I had not done the HOS, after all. So, I returned to the Nursery, put the fuse back in a second time, and violá ~ there was the HOS, lit up and ready to go. Once I finished the HOS, I had the DRAWER HANDLE that I needed. The game is a bit quirky, but that is a first for me.

Mystery solved. Onward and upward! happydance

Thanks! Yes, I am going on now, but I'm not thrilled with this game. It has the feeling of a much older game, with all the crazy failings those older games had. Certainly, it is not a game someone should play if they don't like Pop-Ups. Every time I find a simple piece of Inventory or solve a puzzle, a screen-filling giant red heart pops up with "CONGRATULATIONS! You found an XXX. Isn't that wonderful!"? I kid you not about this. No exaggeration.

The voice acting in the game is absolutely laughable. It actually is so bad that it is entertaining. The villain actually cackles out the old "Mmaah-haah-haaaaah!" Simon LeGree thing. lol

There are plenty enough HO scenes to make an HO fan happy, but they can be a bit annoying, too. First, the "zone of selection" associated with the cursor is VERY small, so you can click right next to an object and it won't select, so you go on looking for it elsewhere. Second, some of the objects to be found look very little like what you expect. I have used the Hint function more than once, after getting bored trying to find the object I need.

None of the puzzles is difficult, although I selected the HARD setting, so if that appeals to a player, this game might suit.

One thing I do like about the game is the unusual use of Inventory items. They did a superb job with that facet. One example: You don't put out a fire with water; you find and use a sandbag, dumping the sand on the fire. And so on.

I will finish the game, anyway. I finish them all. smile But this one won't be appearing in the "Favorite Casual Games" thread.

Well it is an old game.
I bought it back in February 2012.
Other games I bought around that time are Charleston Curse, House of Brass, Cinderstone Orphanage, Cats of Ulthar, Otherworld: Spring of Shadows, and Lights, Camera, Madness.

Jenny, I have not heard of nor played the other games you mentioned, but I did play Otherworld: Spring of Shadows. It was a darned good game, and LOVED it. It is on my Top Twenty list. I will replay it at some point. So, if these games are all in the same year, it doesn't necessarily mean an older game falls short?

Anyway, is there a way to find out the year of issue of a game before buying it? It would be nice to check that, if possible. Some of the older games are simply "clunky" and creak audibly while you play them. ha ha

Sort the reviews on the Big Fish game page from oldest to newest, then you can see how old it is, or at least get an idea.

That was going to be my suggestion, too.

I added it without comment when we first started the recommendation thread and never got around to saying why I liked it. Now I don't remember what I liked about it, just that I did, so if Marian wants to remove it from the thread, that's okay with me. I don't care either way. I think at the time I was looking for actual mysteries.

That seems unnecessary, 8dognight. All we are talking about is each other's personal preferences in games. You liked Black Heart, and I didn't warm to it. Nothing more than that. No worries. smile
