Found these in "Work in Progress" dated 2006 - hope I haven't already posted them... The word GULLIBLE has the letter pattern 12334536 since the third and the fourth letters are the same as the seventh, the others all being different. The word WARRIORS has the same pattern. Put them together with the clue "fighters easily taken in" and you get GULLIBLE WARRIORS. Try to solve the two-word pattern pairs below, aided by the clues -1. 12345346 Work of art done with skill and taste. -2. 12314536 Lady flier who cannot tell a lie. -3. 12321456 Lycanthrope threatening evil. -4. 12324563 Tourists in bright clothes. -5. 12343516 Unexpected leniency. -6. 12345126 Shoulder-bone that has been repaired. -7. 12345316 Minor battle along the shore. -8. 12342566 Perfect bounder! -9. 12345621 Dipsomaniac from Connecticut -10. 12345262 View from a Chinese hotel window -11. 12314564 Harmful relationships -12. 12234536 Wrongdoer taken into custody.

5. surprise clemency A fun puzzle Rog, for which many thanks: finding that second word is quite tricky!

9. New Haven drunkard
11. damaging liaisons
Hi Rog. I agree with Lex, it's a great puzzle but the second word is puzzling.
