It was one of the best games I have ever played. I cannot think of anything I would have changed. Great graphics, not-too-wordy dialogue, interesting story, not too short, easy to use interface, not buggy. thumbsup

I loved this game--ranks right behind Syberia for me...

I have to agree with Rusty. The atmosphere drew me in as few other games have done. The graphics, especially the rain and the thunderstorm, are beautiful and haunting. The story was intense and interesting and somewhat open to interpretation. I didn't have a single problem with it on my PC with Win XP. I was able to explore just about everything I wanted to explore and then when the items weren't needed any longer the hotspot left, which I really like. It just had everything that I love in a game. I'm sad in a way that I played it before I started JTTCOTE, because I don't feel that the game played after Black Mirror has a chance of looking very good when it has to follow such a great act.
Happy gaming,
Beth

I absolutely loved it INCLUDING the unique ending! It's in my top 10 adventures now and proudly sitting on my "keeper" shelf.

Am I the only one who has complaints on the voice acting? The voices were fine except for Samuel. His voice was monotonous. It was painful to hear him speak.

The graphics of the game were great but the story didn't pull me in until chapter 6. I am glad I played it but I wouldn't rate it as high as the others here.

I agree with TLC - it's a good game but by no means one of the best I've played. I have, however, gotten used to Samuel's voice and how slow he talks. His comments kind of crack me up - "this is the chair that Bates sits in when he is resting ..." Samuel comments on so much and it is helpful but I am so surprised that I haven't heard him say "It's raining and I don't have an umbrella or raincoat and I am getting very wet." :-)

I do like the slow pace of the game. I think except for a couple of puzzles it is on the easy side. You kind of circle through all locations, talk to everyone and then hopefully you can move on.

Hiya L.,

My 2 cents:

I liked Black Mirror's spookiness, graphics, and the puzzles were excellent. The ambiance of the castle and environs were dark and moody, and the little touches throughout such as fireflies or branches moving in the breeze were spectacular.

That said, I quickly grew tired of the dreary weather. Rain, rain go away.

I thought it unfair that the results of either left or right mouse clicking were inconsistent. Sometimes left clicking would have Samuel commenting about an item, while other times he'd go over and touch the item. I never quite knew which action would result. I also thought I had read somewhere that dying in the game was impossible, so imagine my surprise when I got Samuel electrocuted. frown And my bigger surprise when I got a "game over" and had to redo a big portion of the game. mad

There was no surprise for me at the end of the game, I had figured out "whodunnit" around Chapter 3. Which kind of annoyed me.

All in all, Black Mirror was a pleasant diversion, but not a keeper for me. The things I didn't like about it far outweigh the things I did.

I probably went on too long but you did ask for opinions. lol

Boy am I glad to see others who are a bit disappointed with this game! Oh my gosh, Kim, you really hit it there! lol

I also think, Presto, that you've summed up alot of my thoughts! I haven't finished it yet, and I'm sure having a hard time getting myself to go back to it! rolleyes

I didn't think you could die either, so now I guess I have to be even more careful...

Nope, not a keeper for me either!

Thanks for all the replies! wave

Takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, doesn't it? LOL

I think opinions on games are as diverse as personalities are. Alot of folks "poo-pooed" Runaway too, and I LOVED it as well!

Of course, I also loved the "old-school" games...ya know..."back in the day." I loved Grim Fandango, Sanitarium, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, the Gabriel Knight games, the Tex Murphy games, the Monkey Island games, etc., etc., ad infinitum.

My opinion on Black Mirror still stands, as I'm sure everyone else's does. I still think there is a lot more RIGHT with the game than WRONG.

Sometimes I think adventurers are a "can't win for losin'" bunch. We complain when there are NO adventures out (logical)....we complain when adventures aren't any good (appropriate)....we complain when they ARE good, but not PERFECT (a bit over the top)...by golly, if the "perfect" adventure ever comes out (whatever THAT could possibly be that could please absolutely EVERYONE)...we'll complain then too! LOL

I think we are, by nature, a bit perfectionistic. It comes along with our high level of intelligence, of course! teehee ;-)

I can pretty much guarantee that I'll have complaints about BS3 and the keyboard controls....or maybe not (I hear they're pretty easy)....but there are those that are saying it's a darn near "perfect" adventure game....we'll see what we all have to say after that one!

I've started this game, too. I'm enjoying the spooky atmosphere of the castle. It's reminiscent of Dark Fall, especially when you are up in the attic. There are quite a few characters in the game, but the dialogue has not been too excessive yet. So far I have only had 1 true puzzle to do (a jigsaw). Everything else has been about asking questions and exploring. The few times I was stuck were due to the gameplay. You need to right click on some items to get more information, and make sure you try to move beyond the boundaries of the screen, sometimes there is more of the area to see. The story is strong, I really want to find out more about my character's family, so going back and forth to talk to the characters isn't too much of a chore.
