After The Beast Within, I couldn't accept Gabriel as an animation. But since enough time has passed and this game gets such good reviews, I decided to go ahead and play it. It took a couple of minutes to load, started perfectly and is playing devinely. I miss Sierra so much!! My heart aches for the days when games were this EASY to load and START (can you say Crystal Key 2, which sits on my shelf in it's state of inability to start up cry ). Just one question, though, who in the world decided on Tim Curry as Gabriel? woozy

I loved GK3, clatterNdin! It was a lot of fun and Gabe's animation is surely goodlooking. lol

Well, he's no Alan Parker Cameron, but he's got great eyes. laugh Dean (was that the actor's name who played him?) was a tough act to follow, though. I'm glad you liked the game. When a game is called a masterpiece, it should be pretty good.

I recall having to copy over the brn. files from the cd's to the game directory to stop certain crashes. Just a head's up. wave

Yes, those eyes are something else. lol

I didn't have any problems on XP. It ran without a glitch for me. What OS did you use Cathy1?

Hi Melanie
I used Win/ME. After I did this I had no problems running the game at all. That was a couple of years ago. I haven't tried it with my new video card yet.

I don't think I played it on my ME. I'm glad you were able to solve the problem. I really enjoyed the game and loved the puzzles. Everything was so logical. smile

Tim Currys voice was used because Sierra used his voice for the remake of the CD-Rom talking version of Gabriel Knight 1 "Sins of the Father".I guess so people would be familiar with the sound of his voice.I just replayed Gabriel Knight 1 (CD version)in April on my Win 98 with no problems . I still have the old floppy version as well.

I also had a problem with the animation here after GK2--partly because it was early days of 3-D and the character animations were just so unnatural! Grace looked like she had a couple of traffic cones stuck to her chest.

I loved Tim Curry's voice acting in GK1 (I loved all the voice acting in GK1; boy did they have a good crew!!!) but they must have switched directors or something because it became really wrong in GK3, IMHO. Especially I hated how Gabriel had a flawless accent in both French and German in GK1 and then in GK3 he's suddenly some hick who can't understand anything unAmericanized? Didn't make sense.

I guess in GK 3 he sounded like a hick was because the actor in GK2 played the role like Gabriel was some redneck, hillbilly, uneducated hick. You would think that with all the time he had spent in Europe between GK1 and GK3 he would have learned something.Or maybe he is just a retard.

Personally I found GK3 hard to accept because I liked GK2 so much. The 3D animation didn't begin to compare to FMV as far as I was concerned. I would have liked it better if I hadn't played #2 just before #3, I'm sure...

Somehow the character transition from GK1 (where Gabriel is kind of suave) to GK2 (where he's beginning to be something of a hick) was less startling to me than the transition between GK2 and GK3... maybe because I've known some of those cute southern boys. I could understand Gabriel maybe fumbling about in Germany a little, getting by on charm and wit after suddenly becoming the lord of the manor. But GK3... I think Tim Curry just camped it up too much. (And I missed Mark Hammill as Mosely!)

I'm with Jenny. I loved GK2. I think it may be my favorite game of all time. The character development and getting to play one chapter as Gabriel and the next as Grace was awesome. I was pretty disappointed in GK3. I found the graphics very blocky and it was a letdown for my after playing The Beast Within.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

In case I haven't stated it, me too. GK2 is my favourite 3rd person adventure ever. Though I liked it a lot once I got into it, GK3 didn't measure up, IMHO. But the "le Serpent Rouge" puzzle was phenomenal.

I have to agree with you all about GK2 definitely being the best of the series. It really is a classic that would be hard to beat.

I was lucky in that I played them in reverse order, first GK3, then GK2 and then GK1. I enjoyed GK3 very much with nothing to compare it with. It was a totally different kind of game than GK2.

I always love FMV the most. It just brings a story home so much more than animation does and the Beast Within was just wonderful.

I played GK3 first and loved it, especially the Serpent Rouge puzzle. The jumping and falling (lots of falling) near the end I wasn't too sure of. GK2 was really in a class of its own. I thought it was absolutely terrific.
I'm waiting for GK1 at the moment, my first purchase on E-Bay. I'm off on holidays tomorrow so hopefully it will be waiting for me when I get home.

I bought each GK game when it first came out and replayed them all in order a couple of years ago. Jane Jensen was (and probably still is) an absolute genius, and I'd buy anything she developed without knowing the first thing about it!

I just finished GK3 and I gotta tell ya, I'm so sad. Knowing there will probably not be a GK4 and the situation at the very end won't be resolved. cry But I'm so glad to hear that most of you liked GK2 better. I am considering GK1 but don't know if there's lots of glitches or what, but GK3 had no problems whatsoever. I'm running Windows ME. I don't know if I'm ready for another animated Gabriel, and I agree, this one was just too rednecky for moi! laugh I still can't help but wonder, why isn't there a Gabriel Knight television show with Dean (is that his name?) YES, Dean Erickson, this little baby right here: http://www.adventuregamesforever.de/Ueberraschung/Erickson.jpg in the role. Oh, forgive me, I forgot, reality shows rule. duh mad Thanks to those of you who helped me through the rough patches. wave Boomers are the best!

Jane Jensen. It was her game.

She went out of business of computer games thanks to 3D madness that unfortunately still persists. That is the main reason why Sierra adventure games disappeared. 3D is good for FPS and simulations but for the rest is total [blip]. For me 3D is still ugly and eats huge resources and drives prices of new PCs sky high. GK4 was never even mentioned by Jane Jensen.

Hi, clatterNdin!

Congrats on finishing GK3!

I replayed GK1 on my old Win98 computer last year with only a couple of minor glitches. Yes, the graphics are extremely archaic, but the storyline is so compelling and the puzzles are so seamlessly integrated that you probably won't even notice.
