I just started Myst 5 today.So far it's great,
I didn't finish Revelation.I couldn't get passed the vibrating crystals or the monkey puzzle.
For all you Myst fans. How do you rate these games in your favorite to leashed favorite.
And which was hardest to easiest?
I hope Myst5 isn't like 4,i can't do the timed puzzles.I loved all the other Myst games but 4 is just not the same.

ron.etti I've played all the Myst games except Myst IV. I started it about a year ago and never finished. I am going to play Myst IV now that I have finished Myst V.

I loved the series of games. They were my introduction to Adventure games so they have sentimental value to me. I think my least favorite was Myst V my favorite was the first Myst then Riven and Myst Exile. smile

1)Uru (and exp. packs)
2)Myst-4
3)Myst-5
4)Myst-2 (riven)
5)Myst-3 (exile)
6)Myst-1
Although Myst-1 was the breakthrough in adventure gaming and gets high marks just for that, I rated the later Myst's higher because the graphics and movement kept getting better and better.

I enjoyed Uru the most because of the freedom of movement and the beautifully rendered environments . After that , Myst , Myst III and Riven . I haven't gotten around to playing IV and V yet .

I wish more Adventure game developers would use the true 3d environments . I think it adds a lot more realism to the gameplay .

Riven is the best, definitely. Myst second, because I can't ever think of it without remembering how it felt the first time I played. Then Exile, Revelation and Uru ina tie. And wayyy down at the bottom, Myst 5. I thought that was SO stinky; I can't even consider it part of the same series.

It seems that most of the reviewers felt as you did, WW.

I'm not a great fan of the Myst series but of the 3 I played my favorites were, in order: Exile, Riven, Myst 1. When they introduced timed/action puzzles, I quit playing them.

It's almost impossible to rate a series like the Myst games--they are just too good! But to my surprise, the game I enjoyed the most was Uru (with the expansion packs). Once I got used to the keyboard and jumping it was loads of fun, especially since I was lucky enough to get into the on-line game. If they only hadn't shut that down so quickly... cry

I'd have to say the one that didn't even get mentioned here, RealMyst. thumbsup

My favorite will always be the original Myst, or the Myst Masterpiece edition which is essentially the same thing in 64-bit color and slightly enhanced sound.

I also liked RealMyst, with the Rime age, but it gave me motion sickness so I couldn't play it for long at a time.

Second and 3rd favorite, roughly tied, would be Exile and Uru. I liked them for different reasons though. Exile had a really pretty and creative gameworld and Uru had great exploration. For those who've read the Myst books, Uru offered a chance to finally see and explore the lost city of D'Ni - or at least part of it.

I played Riven so long ago I'm not sure where to place it. It was a bit too hard for me at the time I played though, and I had to depend on hints too much. I might like it better if I replayed it, now that I'm more familiar with adventure game puzzles, and it might be 2nd or 3rd instead of Exile or Uru.

I didn't care so much for Myst IV - and not just because of the out-of-place dexterity puzzles (which were worse for me than anything in Uru, including the jump on top of the rock for the rug page in Eder Kemo). The dumb new agey type stuff in Myst IV really turned me off. That business with the "dream" world where there is nothing but colored dots (and Yeesha was the white dot) was too silly to be believed. The graphics in the game were pretty (though I didn't like the overuse of yellow filters in Haven), but there were too many "what were they thinking?" moments. I cringed when that so-called priestess said "This is so not good." Can you tell I was disappointed with this game? They could have easily made it so much better.

I haven't played Myst V.

As for hardest to easiest -
I'd definitely say Riven was hardest. There was so much to keep track of.
I guess Myst and Exile would be about the same.
Uru's difficulty was that some of the puzzles just took a long time to do, even when you knew what to do. I liked it more for its exploration aspect than for its puzzles.

This post is too long, so I doubt most people will read it.

I thought Riven was really too hard also, Jenny. I'm glad it was the last Myst game I played or I might have never played the others. I just loved the graphics in Exile!

I think Riven by far was the best. Lots of exploration, excellent graphics, the best drama. For me it was the most real life of all of them. Next would be Realmyst and then URU (especially when it was live).

What do you see Crispeto? I see URU Live!

My faves:
Riven
Myst (original)
Exile

I found two of Myst IV's timed puzzles so difficult i don't want to replay 'cause know will probably get stuck w/em again..

Thought Myst V just plain confusing at times...

As for Uru...well, i liked the fact it was a LONG game, but again almost impossible timed sections, and jUMPINg...then you moved onto the ever so confusing To D'ni---and on to Path of the Shell. I have still not finished To D'ni... A real pain was the waiting and waiting for reloads..so very tedious. And quite frankly to me the graphics in Riven looked a lot better--especially the water effects!! Uru is my least fave and maybe it is the reason the series came to an end.

I was not a fan of any of the Myst games. I thought the graphics were beautiful but I found them to be boring due to the lack of any character interaction. The first one was very hard for me to finish.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

In terms of my favorites, I'd rank them as follows:

Riven
Myst
Myst III
Myst IV
Uru

Myst III (Exile) and IV (Revelation) were pretty close in my opinion: I give Exile the edge due to superior puzzles, though the story and graphics in Revelation were quite nice.

Riven struck the right balance for me in terms of good puzzles and an engaging atmosphere. While a lot of the puzzles in the other games seemed disjointed, all the puzzles in Riven fit together very well, often with the solutions to minor puzzles helping to form the solutions to more complex ones later.

Myst V doesn't show on the list because I've only played the demo: based on my limited experience, it would rank way, WAY down at the bottom.

Difficulty-wise, I'd say Riven was also the hardest, followed by Myst. Revelation had some puzzles that were a little nonsensical, and the time-based elements were annoying. However, I don't consider that "difficult" so much as poorly designed. Uru was pretty tricky, due to some particularly clever jumping puzzles. Myst III was by far the easiest Myst game I've played.

I enjoyed them all. Some more then others. URU is my favorite. It was beautiful, and I enjoyed the freedom to move about. I spent a lot of time kicking rubber cones of the cliff when I got frustrated getting some of the markers! I am seriously getting concerned about the investment in MYST V. I'm still in IV, and I will be calling those Mangrees for some time yet. But no one really sounds too terribly impressed with V .. Does it have any rubber cones? woozy

No rubber cones!

That was one of the things that bothered me a lot--many of the really entertaining things from previous games just didn't exist in Myst V. I remember catching frogs or viewing wharks for hours in Riven. Or going on the ride at the end of Amateria in Exile: such reward for your hard work! Myst V was just tedious.

I'd strongly suggest waiting until the price drops substantially on this one.

One of the first two adventure games I ever played was Exile. I didn't know at the time that there were other Myst games.
After playing them all mulitple times, Uru is the one I go back to over and over. It has multiple, beautifully rendered, free roaming, 3D environments to explore. A bit confusing at first, but not after exploring around a while. The challenges were exhausting the first go round, but with practice, I mastered them and now enjoy all the running, jumping, swimming!
I've never enjoyed having to interact with other characters that much in adventure games. Especially the long winded ones, so it suits me just fine that there are almost no other characters in the game.
I love everything about URU and I'm sure it's not the reason that they are not making any more.
Afterall they did make Myst IV and V after URU.
Maybe Myst V is the reason they are not making anymore. thumbsup

I loved all the Myst games equally... except Myst5. I can't even bring myself to say why, it's like critizing a very dear friend who has failed. It hurts too much.

I think that's not strictly true. I read quite a few reviews from people who liked it a lot, or I would have waited for the price to go down before I bought it. Like anything, it's a matter of personal taste I guess.
