Hi, I know we all talk alot about games that we would recommend playing. I would like to know what game (yes, just one) that you would definitely NOT recommend, for whatever reason. Mine would have to be Arabian Nights. Everything about it I found horrible. Rusty P.S. - Yes, I know that "un-recommend" is not a real word. I just made it up!

I'd have posted faster, Rusty... but I had to take 48 sceonds to debate with myself between Timeline and Alfred Hitchcock's The Final Cut.

Strange... I hesitated at starting Final Cut when I realized that it was a keyboard game, but I, for one, am glad that I had second thoughts on it! It turned out to be a verrrrrrrrrry interesting game! Plus, I really enjoyed the spoof on all of the Hitchcock thrillers!
There ARE a couple of games that I couldn't trade FAST enough, they were so bad, but darned if I can remember them right now!

The crystal key, brab and boring. Rusty are you talking about the action/adventure game by Dreamcatcher? If so I loved the game. I thought everything about the game was fun and a good challenge without being extremely difficult. And it was a long game. A lot of play for your money.

For me it would be Riven. I found it boring but I am not a fan of first person adventures.

There are two games that I installed and never finished and finally uninstalled.
1. Light and Darkness. Boring and confusing.
2. City of Lost Children. I didn't like anything about it.
Then there was Koala Lumpur which had an arcade scene in it that was beyond me so I quit the game and forever banished it to my stack of unfinished never to play again games.

Yup, OLAD by far. The whole game is a timed sequence. The only game I have yet to complete. I take the free tours to practice that level and then play like [blip] when it counts. I almost gave up on American Mcgee's ALICE,until I used the give all and God modes. No such cheats with OLAD. Hey, The Crystal Key was like a prom date that your buds hooked you up with. It sounded good at the time and looked great. How much did I spend?

I know many people will disagree with me, but Blackstone Chronicles is my choice. It was so depressing and the ending gave me no joy.

I absolutely loved Blackstone Chronicles, but I agree that parts of it were sad and morbid. I tend to like adventure games with morbid or strange themes, though. My pick for the game I would never recommend is the one where you are in the castle and you can't carry around all of your inventory, so you have to store it in chests scattered around in various rooms. The inventory irritated me so much that I not only never finished the game, but I've blocked the name from memory! I think it may be The Messenger, but I'm not sure.

1. Bureau 13 (possibly the worst game ever made) 2. Arthur's Knights (too buggy) 3. The Final Cut (lousy continuity) 4. William Shatner's TekWar (horribly done)

It is a great thread Rusty (*)
Well let's see, so many games to pick from....
Star Trek Borg - literally a 3 hour game.
Urban Runner: sister to Fork In The Tale. Run in first person with bad camera angles. Run into locker rooms, old buildings, really ugly torn up places. Hear yourself out of breath over and over. Die - re-load - die take game and throw out of window. Catch breath - feel better.
Night Trap: brother to the above, all part of large disfunctional game family.

I cannot think of ANY game that I hated so much that I would tell anyone else "FORGET ABOUT IT"! But if you want to know a game or two that I hated I can tell you that = The Ward, terribly frustrating trying to disconnect that lazer maze and open that door, so much so that I quit, uninstalled and sold it to 'get it outta here'!.
AND Shivers II, just could not get the hang of what to do and do it faster in that canyon, tried to manage the placement of those Bajo sticks I found in the Motel office and after about 100 false starts and tries I gave up on this one too and sold it off.....too bad cause Shivers I is one of my favorite games.
there are probably others I did not like much and may have played to the end but ended up hating, but cannot remember what they are now. Love, Betty Lou

Okay. I've succumbed. No games I actualy hate so far, but then I haven't played as many as some here. If all my played games were set out and I had to pick my strongest to weakest candidates, then my two weak picks would EASILY be ; 'Road To India' - for being far too short and far too easy. . . . . but the clear loser . . . . 'Mystery of the Druids' . . . . . . because it was a good game completely ruined by the nonsensically repetitive conversation trees. To find out if you DIDN'T need to speak to a person again you had to click through the whole previous conversation again and again and . . . .. For me, this was a good game that became a poor game due to this. Gelert.

If you want to play the games that most people hated, on this thread, don't worry, it just means that you have BAAGS - level 7. From the Our Archives - Hall of Fame section, here is Syd's post on BAAGS. Enjoy. BAAGS

I know I'll get lynched for this one, but for me " Faust seven games of the soul" buggiest damned game Ive ever played, I spent more time trying to get it to work than play, made it thru chapter 5, and just couldnt take it anymore, I was so frustrated with it I just wanted to take the discs and just keep smashing them with a hammer, of course I didnt, I think I traded it off.

Worse games I've played would be:
Timeline--arcade action and only one puzzle. Didn't finish it. The book was way better.
Welcome to the Future?--not much of an ending, nothing really challenging--just find pieces and put where they belong.
Quest for Karma--decent puzzles but left out the story--just didn't hang together.
Never resist a generous impulse.

Games that I would not recommend are ...
1. Comer - huh? 2. The Watchmaker - voice acting 3. Jazz and Faust - voice acting
There are others that I didn't like but that was because of technical problems rather than issues with the game.

Myst and any of the sequels (gave up on both Myst and Exile, never tried Riven) or those like them ROTS, etc. Don't like games that are practically stictly puzzles and no plot or character interaction. Loved the Phantasmagorias, Mystery of the Druids and Hitchcock all are in my top 10
Happy gaming, Lewton
If the world didn't suck would we all fall off Now playing Post Mortem, Midnight Nowhere and Still Life

everyone, I have to agree about Chateau D'Or and I will add Amerzone to that. I will probably get some heat for the second one but I thought both were boring. Kay

Have to second "Fork in the Tale". When they said parallel universe, I didn't realize they meant the developers. Totally bizarre!

Hey, The Crystal Key was like a prom date that your buds hooked you up with. It sounded good at the time and looked great. You mean the prom date that went on to become a star on Broadway? (Who'd have thought that thousands of people would pay to catch a glimpse of her?) My vote -- Lighthouse. If you can repair your own car, you should take Lighthouse for a spin. If you can't, don't.

Becky: It still stuns me that The Crystal Key has been AC/DC's #1 seller. I can only assume that Syberia will soon surpass it. Syberia may not have been my favorite game, but it is light-years better than CK.

New Adeventures of the Time Machine - The constant change in perspective is extremly annoying. Also I didn't know when I bought it that it would have action sequences. I'm not good at them. I can't get pass the jail section. On my screen the game is so dark that if I turn Wells invisible he actually is invisible so I can't see him to move him pas the guards. I can't fight my way out so I gave up.
Riven and Lighthouse - I like character intereaction not an endless stream of puzzles with no logic too them. I've never played Myst or it would probably be on my list.

<img border="0" alt=" " title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt=" " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> I come to think of two games that I definitely don't want to recommend The Ward & Nightlong

I never said that I do not love Kofun, I love it so much that I am still playing it on and off after almost a year. Time stands still when I play it and I hardly get anywhere.
I feel the same about Blue Ice too. LOL

Don't be sorry, Inferno! I never said I liked it and I would certainly not recommend it. Very poor game all-around. Rusty

Crystal Key was the game I played after finishing Myst III Exile. Unlike the Myst series, where you were given clues as to what needed done when you encounter something, Crystal Key had almost none of that. Aside from the clue to the first key, in a book in the basement of the house, you received no other clues as to what needed done beyond that point. And if that weren't bad enough, in my mind, some of the things you needed to use were not placed in a position of clear viewing, as in being almost off the screen. Being able to see only a hint of something lying there is not the proper way to display something. Riddle of the Sphinx was a snap compared to Crystal Key.
If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

Howdy Maybe you could have an ~anti~twisty list IF you specified reasons for putting a title there besides "I dont this genre" (ie first person/ puzzle games). I would like to know which ones people found the most buggy, illogical, endless etc. I generally dont like horror for ex, so my opinions on those games arent worth much to an afficionado. I thought Crystal Key was okay (accept for the action bits on the spaceship). Pretty in places. Pixel hunting required etc Anyone else on here getting that "near miss" feeling from some of these entries? I barely passed on "Mystery of the Druids" & "Final Cut" (nearly bought that yesterday!) I have yet to play Bureau 13 or Time Machine but they are currently peering at me nervously from my stack. I will probably still try them but I sure am glad I didnt pay much! I know there are games I dropped with a resounding thud liking nothing about them (I liked Labyrinth of Time until it became frustrating) but they are hiding their titles in the frightened corners of my conciousness whispering "Dont make me come out! PLEASE dont make me come out" Susan PS I find it incredible anyone could *not* love Myst & Riven! AARRRGGHH matey! Belay that heretical talk, I have a plank, a sword, and a 3-headed monkey to make ya walk it!AAAARRRGGHHH PPS What is Kofun about? edited: nevermind found the review for "Sacred Mirror of Kofun" on here (plus others on google, where it was dubbed Kofun the Nofun.)

Schizm - the most buggy pain in the neck game. When you do get the dang thing working the puzzles make no sense (and that's before my copy keeps defaulting into the Polish language). Haven't finished it. Probably never will.
Another game that hasn't raised a vote yet, but definitely should is Chaos. I played it so long ago I can't actually remember the storyline, but it gave no clue as to what the puzzles were, or how to solve them.
Don't follow me, I'm lost too!

Hey! We loved Chaos! Errr.... assuming you mean Chaos: A Fantasy Adventure Game. It was offbeat, funny, and a good mix of puzzle difficulty.
