Hello Boomers,

I have a question? Has anyone played this game?
Did you like it? I read the reviews, but I want an opinion from you guys, since I value the opinions of boomers more than the companies of the game.

Thanks Liz wave

Good Morning Liz. Pandora's box is a great puzzle game with sorta a storyline. It is done sorta like "Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego?". You get to solve a series of puzzles in a set in order to gain a piece to another puzzle that has been broken up and 'hidden' in various places around the world. There are 9 or 10 levels and as you solve the needed set of puzzles and gain another piece you get to solve - yep, you guessed it, another puzzle - I have this, have played it and am sorta stuck at the last level (RAVEN) with yet another circular slider (these can be hard sometimes, depends on how 'dumb' I am being on any given day). I like PB because I can put it down or pick it up any time and not have missed anything. You can also play ALL of the puzzles or choose your favorite kind and solve them without the levels or storyline (such as it is). I guess I believe it is worth between $10 and 20 dollars but not any more than that. Even better if you can get it used, cheaper. The different type of puzzles are novel and some of them are fun. Does this help at all?
Love, Betty Lou laugh

Hi Housewife!

I played this game a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. Nothing but puzzles with a bit of a story line. I have three shelves for my games. One for games I'm gonna play, one for games I,ve played and wont play again (sort of my trading post) and one for games I've played and will play again and again. Pandora's box is on the play again page. There are "Roto-scope" puzzles", puzzles where you rotate pieces untill they come into focus and make a clear picture, piece puzzles where you put pieces together to form an object etc. I used this game for times when I did'nt feel like using a whole lot of brain power, but still wanted a bit of a challenge. Have fun! I sure did.

I have to agree with the others. This is more of a puzzle game than a story........lots of fun in store for you.

I loved it, even though I never could do the "rotascope" puzzles....I kept the tokens to bypass them.

I often play a few of the puzzles again as a sort of relaxation. The music is nice and the scenes from various countries too.

I absolutely LOVED the part of this game that I could play. I was only able to play through a few of the puzzles because my computer didn't like the game for some reason and it kept freezing. But....if I COULD play it all the way through, I know I would! Not being able to do so was one of my great gaming disappointments of last year.

PLAYING ON PC: World of Warcraft...nothing else...there is no need for ANY other game when you have THIS one to play!! LOL

I really loved the game, have played it a few times now. Started playing it under Windows 98, completed it and now play it under Windows XP. As regards the puzzles, there are so many that you never get bored. My favourites were the 'rotoscope' puzzles. Play it if you get the chance!!!!!

Just got home from work and I definitely say buy it. I bought it when it first came out and was able to complete all the levels. When I get away from Mr. Holmes, I am going to load it and see how it works on XP.

Thanks Betty Lou for reminding us that have played this game that you can pick puzzles you want to play instead of playing from begging to end. It took me a while to get past the Raven.

I love this game and every so often take it out and play it again. Its kind of like Brain Games which I also enjoyed its just that little game you can pop in the cd rom when you just have a few minutes and need a puzzle fix.

Get it, you won't be sorry.

An absolutely beautiful game. Fantastic design, lots and lots of taste and refinement. A really impressive effort from Microsoft Games, I thought. But then, it IS the guy who designed Tetris, so he does know a thing or two!

One of Microsoft's best products!

We all enjoy playing PB in our house (from 6-36!). And it's got plenty of re-play value, unlike many adventure games... once you know how to get the door open, you probably won't be stumped for three days the next time through!

Girlgeek, you might try installing the patch for the game that you can get from the Microsoft site. It cured the same problem for me.

Oh Pandora's Box is great! Lovely music, pretty pics & bits of art. We've replayed it more times than I can count (Its one of my Mom's favourites, in fact)

I loved the rotascopes. It was those floating blank spaces that I found difficult. You know, click it in the right spot or it zooms all over? Tokens.what a great idea. I wish more games had that option wink

Please tell me how you got Pandora's box to play on WinXP! I got an error when I tried to install it on the new pooter "Windows has a known compatability issue with this product" etc

any suggestions?

Salar smile

Add another vote for Pandora's Box. Great puzzles, and the music was hypnotic. I even used a snippet for my "open windows" sound on my Windows 98 computer. My only question: how did you get it to play on XP?

I've been playing Pandora's Box on Windows XP with no patches and no problems at all. Maybe it's something with your hardware it doesn't like

There are different versions of PB, are there not? I'm pretty sure Microsoft issued a second run of the game, but even if they didn't, the game has recently been re-released in a budget version from Ubi Soft. I haven't a clue if there are any changes in the newer version, but it's possible you're not all talking about the exact same CD.

I'm getting very interested in Pandora's Box. Some of you above mentioned how great the re-play value is. How so? Do possible puzzles change with each re-play in some way?

Pandora's Box was the very first game I played, about 3 1/2 years ago on Win 98. I loved the puzzles and tried to install it on XP, with no success, so I replayed it on my old computer. Great game!!!

Hi All..........I'm going to try loading Pandora's Box on my new XP and see what happens. Salar of Myst, you probably need to drop down to the Glitches forum and post a message for suggestions there. I'm sure our techies would be happen to help. You might also look up inferno's XP compatibility list. You can find it by doing a search is this forum.

----------------later---------------

Well, its "no dice" with the version of XP I am running and since Microsoft made both XP and Pandora's Box, I guess they know what they're talking about when they say "there's a compatibility problem" between XP and the game. I'll load it on my 98 when I get the space. The 98 is loaded (and I do mean loaded!) with kid games presently. laugh laugh laugh

Love, Witchen

As a follow up to Witchen's post, I popped in the Ubi Soft version on my XP, and it works like a charm - no compatability mode, even. The plot thickens. laugh

Yes, grrrrrrrr, this is a thick plot all right. frown Microsoft distributed the version I have, but "Viewpoint Digital" appears to be at least the collaborating developer. I tossed a lot of kid games off the "98" and loaded Pandora's Box with no problem. I'm just about to give it a spin. That is, I was, if the family was willing to skip dinner. Oh drat! That doesn't look like a viable happenin'........ gotta' go

Thanks for the suggestions, Witchen smile

SirDave, the puzzles dont change but neither do you memorize them quickly. That lovely music keeps the tone relaxed as you piece together ancient Egyptian sculptures & Japanese scrolls. You can replay it occassionally and expect it to remain interesting in a low-key way laugh

Sounds to me like Singer has worked out whats up. I emailed Microsoft directly about it over a year ago. Good thing I didnt hold my breath for the answer. rolleyes

I still have the 98se machine to play Pandora. I just thought it would be great to achieve forward compatability.

I wish they had made a sequel. There are LOTS of museums after all. smile
