I suppose my question should be directed to one of the moderators, but I was wondering if there could be a save game section for gameboomers. I myself have many times been in a game that I can not advance in because something requires great dexerity or recall of certain numbers, objects or synbols.I find this is true of most new 3D games weither they are adventure or action/adventure.I have 3 games that I have recently played that had to stop because of poor eye hand coordination or remembering the order of events.Or would something like this be too complicated to do

Sounds like a good idea. We've got some save game sections already at www.thediscworld.co.uk erm, just click on hints I think, then choose your game, but if anyone has any others, then just email them over to me and I'll get them up on the site.

I think this is a good idea, especially for certain games. Examples would be.
- Schizm post railway puzzle
- the Ward end timed puzzle
- the Watchmaker end timed puzzle
- post music puzzle in Myst

I have a file I use for saved games. Some are just
the one hurdle, others are all my saves.
I have the above saves (except the Myst one )
and all my saves for Amber, Ward, Obsidian, Timelapse, and Syberia.

Banking saved games not only helps with the frustrating puzzles, but also when a game crashes. Recently I sent my Black Dahlia save to a boomer who had to install the game on another computer.

I have saved games as well. I know all the hints mods keep a huge bank of saved games for folks.

Might break our server space and bandwidth to have a saved game data base along with all the reviews and WT's. At least that's what I suspect smile

Hi Gang! laugh

Terrific idea and we've talked this one over several times in the past and decided, as Laura points out, due to the space requirements on the server, and the work it would take to maintain such a data base, its best to let people save their own games and volunteer them in the Hints forum as they are needed. Any new ideas on how the idea might be accommodated are, of course, always welcome! Love, Witchen

At the very least we could set up a page with a listing of who has what saved games available, couldn't we? That keeps GB out of the bandwidth problem, yet still facilitates the process. thumbsup

Singers idea seems to be good. Can not we have a list of people who keep save games on new and old games and what games,so that one could do a search for that game and find out who might have some saves games for that particular one?

A while back a boomer 'saved' me because I had a corupt CD in Black Dahlia and I just couldn't advance. So I am for ever thankful for those who do keep saves on their computers.

Very, very generous of you Villa Thriller! thumbsup

I was going to nominate ol' happy days, good time Jack for that assignment! LOL laugh Very nice of you to volunteer. As for my loading up all the save games for disbursal, BillyBee, I have my hands full just sending out baskets full of the bypass for the Japanese Tile Puzzle, on request, (from Mystery of the Mummy)....every single day. LOL laugh

Love, Witchen =O)

Well, if we're going to defer to VT's discworld site, easy enough. Otherwise, I'd be up to the task (if only to earn that flattering label Witchen gave me wink ) Just a list, mind you, not hosting the saves for download or anything! eek

I have 60 games listed although I know I do not have saves for all of them. A few are just folders prepared for games yet to be played. Some are for games before I knew I could save the saves. Some are saves for a portion of the game and some are extensive saves for some games.....such as Syberia, Myst III, and others.

Sooooo, I will have to go through all these 60 folders and make a determination of what I have that is of any real use to others and do whatever is decided to be done with the info......send to VillaThriller or wherever. laugh

There is another thing to consider regarding saves. Often, due to the way a save is listed one cannot tell exactly where in the game that save relates. In a case such as this it is often helpful for the person needing help to send their last save to someone and have them play through the problem area for them. Sooooo, this would mean also having a list of those who have retained installed games (and which ones) on their computer and are willing to do this. laugh

There's a pesky comma at the end of the discworld URL that's ruining the link. wink

The link is fixed, Villa and Sir Jackness. I sure didn't catch that "pesky little comma" at first! smile

Now you see, you'd think that I'd have noticed that comma the amount of times I've typed my own URL. Ah well, obviously not. Anyway, it's no problem for me to get it up on the site, as it's obviously something which a lot of people are going to use, so it's good for the site, and good for the people who need the saves. Win win situation really.

Stupid comma.tsk.

Another thought......Games that are not linear can cause some pretty good problems to those using someone else's save to get through a particular puzzle (or glitch). For example, MYST III; you could play each area in a different sequence and the puzzles in each area in a different sequence, too.

Why does the word "save" not sound so complex when you ask for one. laugh
