Have you ever thought a game was over before it was over?

This happened to me this week, playing Mystery of the Nautilus. You guide the submarine through the canyon, the hero says something like "Phew. The test is over". And then, nothing. No cues about more tasks, nothing.
So I thought, "What a short game". And "Well, they sure don't make ending scenes the way they used to", and I shut the computer down and went to bed.
Checked the walkthrough the next day. Found out you are supposed to play the organ to unlock a door. Boy do I feel stupid.
(That organ didn't do anything but sit there before you get the sub out of the canyon. Now it plays all kinds of notes!)

That is the funniest post I have read in a while. I know how you feel though. The first time I played Golden Gate and got this one ending - I was sitting there saying "WHAT! - that's it ? That's the ending!!" I was very grumpy that day. Laura

I can't recall an adventure game moment along those lines, although I'm sure there must be at least one I'm forgetting. I know I've played several RPG's where I thought the foozle was dead, and I could just sit back and watch all the characters congratulate me, when BAM foozle is still alive and proceding to pummel me. I've learned to never say it's over until the entire credits role by with a big "The End" on the screen.

Kept thinking was in a dead end in King Quest game. This was the one with the minataur maze. There's one spot where you take a drop to a lower level. Thought he was going to die, so would hit the load key before it happened. One time was finally too slow and got to continue.

Yep, did it with Myst. After I finished the mechanical age, I thought I was done. Was pleasantly surprised to find out I wasn't.

A bit different, but I thought I was playing the end game of The Quivering, and was very surprised to find myself at the funpark, with a fair bit of play still to go.

Not a plain adventure game, but No one lives forever 1 suprised me. I had read one walkthrough, and thought it was over when Bruno returned to life. I didn't know I had the Game of the year edition, and was really surprised when it started with yet another level.

I really wished the game wasn't over, when it was over, in Syberia because I was pretty unsatisfied.
You know... after really good gaming, I just want to lay back and smoke a cigarette... Well... okay... that's a joke... actually I jump up and down and generally beam and glow right through the music and credits, lovingly staring at my monitor with a silly, sheepish, grin. (That's for the likes of TLJ, TEX MURPHY and GK3, only.)
The game in which I thought it was over, and then was wonderously suprised otherwise, was one of the first I ever finished... LightHouse. When the first flying bird-like machine took me in the air I was really swept up in the wonderful "closing" cinematic. SO... I glowed and beamed and stared etc....
Imagine my surprise... when I landed!
