Last night I happened to watch an old James Bond movie -"From Russia With Love", part of which is filmed in Istanbul. Before long, I got a feeling of deja vu: James rowing a boat through the underground Basilica Cistern; in the Santa Sophia Mosque, and in the marketplace. "Hey, I've seen these places before - in the game Byzantine." It was fun to see them from a differnt perspective, and made me want to play the game again. lol lol

Hey that was cool, wasn't it! I watched all the James Bond movies with my youngest over the course of a couple of months and freaked when I saw that same movie. It was exciting to see the underground area. Hmmm I wonder if we could have come up under the russian embassy in the game laugh

Ah, Byzantine, one of my all-time faves. Since all my games are still packed up, does anyone recall whether it plays on Win98 as well as Win95? I might just give it another go when I can find it.....LOL smile

I played it last year on Win98. It crashed a few times in the virtual reality parts but I was able to complete this great game without any pain.

In fact, I recently sat and helped a friend play the game on WinME. It gave me no trouble at all. She loved the game, as, of course, do I. I have a friend who has spent some time in Istanbul and I restored from late in the game so I could take him around the town, so to speak. He was enthusiastic. "Yes, yes, that's it!" and it brought back pleasant memories for him. I didn't even show him the virtual reality sequences, which would not have been familiar to him.

I wish that the Learning Company would have made sequels. I understand that they were intending to do various cities in the world. Wouldn't that have been a great way of learning about them?

I belive you are correct, Betty Lou, I think it was the Discovery Channel that did this game.

Adpuzlov is right,in that it was supposed to be the 1st in a series of games. I remember something in the game box about the next game but I forget what the setting was. In any case, apparently Byzantine didn't sell well enough and no sequels where ever made. Too bad, it could have made a geat series!

I played the game on Win98 with no problems that I can remember. I'm wondering if it'll play on XP - have to check Inferno's website for that.

Betty Lou you are correct it done by Discovery Channel-I am playing it right now, and it works great on WINme. I don't know about if it is the first series, because the box doesn't say. And it comes in a beautiful box and a fold-out cardboard case where you store the 6-cd's in and has the the site of inside of the mini-game you play inside the sim, enjoying this game very much, so much to do. In fact I have two of them in boxes if anyone is interested in buying one or trade Just to let you know in case.

Anyway it is a great game, is a must game to play if you haven't yet. thumbsup

It is indeed an excellent game. Shame there weren't more.
