Hi folks ! smile

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this . . . .

. . . . and, also, what odd-shaped boxed games others have come across in the past. I know there was a z-shaped box of ???? at one time. What was it ? Anyone tell me ?

. . . . I was rummaging through a second-hand shop's contents today when I came across a boxed 'Prince of Persia' . . . . for Mac. I wouldn't have given it a second glance had it not been for the fact it was in a gold and red TRAPEZOID shaped box ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="tongue.gif" />

I bought it, as it was very cheap, just out of curiosiity. Can anyone tell me if it's anything special ? I know 'Prince of Persia' is as common as currants in fruit cake, but I've never seen this trapezium shape before. It's wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, like a beaker. All that are on the front are red flame-shaped triangles and little gold squares, a picture of the Prince leaping and 'by Jordan Mechner' in a scroll pattern. It's weird ! eek

This is the shape . . just about, ignoring the dots to the left ;

I got Thief 2 in a box shaped like that. Also Tomb Raider Revelation also came in a v shaped box.

StoneKeep is one of those games I bought just for the box. Got it for 5.99.

Star Trek Final Unity came in a box that shape. Many Eidos games, like Thief and Tomb Raider, came in a box that was like your picture only upside down, with the long edge on the bottom. One of the weirdest-shaped boxes I've ever seen is the one for Astronomica, which is asymmetrically trapezoidal on all four sides, not just front and back. It's a real nuisance to store it because it's skinnier near the top than at the bottom even when you have it edgewise.

The POP box I saw in a used game store was more of an X shape. If you flip the box you have over to make a mirror image on the bottom--that's it. It was similar to the original odd shaped Gabriel Knight box.

Actually, I think the game box I saw was Prince of Persia 2. The Gabriel Knight box was even stranger. You can see it on the Mobygames site.

I think there's an action game called Ultimate Fighter that has a failry bizarre box. Hard to describe, but it also is kinda trapezoidal in shape, and part of it is see thru.

I wonder if there is a pic on the web anywhere that shows the box for Astronomica. I have the game but just the j/c. Never seen the box before.

One of the weirdest packaging ideas, that I have seen, wasn't a game but a Graphics program. It was called "Painter II", and it actually came in a paint can, with a bale, and a metal top as seen on a real paint can. Had to pry the lid open to get to the disks and docs inside. I still have that old program, simply because I can't part with the can it came in. laugh

There was also a racing game that came in an X shaped box. I believe it was one of the hot wheels games.

Hi smile

I have the old RPG "Albion" and it is in a very beautiful box....

It has an extra "front" - the centre of which is cut away to show a "painted" scene behind. [Painted onto the actual box front.]

As there is a gap of nearly an inch between the two "fronts", the depth effect of looking "into" the scene is very striking.

Needless to say, it is a big box !! wave

You can find the box at JA's The Jave. Click to enlarge. I had one on Mobygames, but this one is in better shape. The jewel case fits in an opening so it is flush with the front of the box.

Both the DARKSEED games came in an odd-shaped box that is hard to store. They are thinner on the top and have an insert in the front that pouches out. rolleyes
For this reason, I don't store them on the same shelf with the rest of my boxed games.

Double Switch had one of those 'windows' on the front, with the guy recessed to the back. He was saying something like -
GET ME OUT OF HERE!!! lol

Don't forget that huge contraption of a box that 11th Hour first came out in, & I thought that the Fable & Dragonsphere book style boxes were quite well designed too.
