I've played a number of adventure games. I was pretty disappointed this holiday season because nothing came out that interested me. I had already played Syberia in October. Well, I just played some Riven (for about the 10,000th time) and I must say it is still by far and away my all time favorite. I'm so glad I have the DVD version. Even by today's standards the graphics are fantastic. It's the most immersive electronic world I've ever been in. It's good therapy for me. I'm looking very forward to the new Myst Online game coming at the end of the year. Anyway, thanks for listening (reading).

The first game I played was MYST, having been shown a scene in it a year or two earlier. Friend of mine was playing it and was stuck with the Space Ship / Organ Puzzle. I had him record the Organ sounds and compare with the sliders to get that done. Later, when I played it I had to do the same.

RIVEN was the second game to play and so hooked me on the games. Although I've played some that were very good I've not found too many to live up to the standards of these games. Graphics and sound have improved, generally, but not many are as interesting to me as these. Still, I'm sticking to it......looking for the next really good one and every so often it happens. laugh

I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!

RIVEN is still 3/50 in my Favorite Games List. It is one of the few games that I have replayed. (It was a lot easier the second time. laugh )

I don't have the DVD of it. Perhaps I should look around for it.

OK,Ok,
Sign me on. First game- MYST and then I got the Ages of MYST for Christmas (98). It included RIVEN. When I needed help with some stuff in RIVEN, the lady (DARCY) from JA, sent me to the great Boomers here. Total BAAG'S since then.
RIVEN is still the best, first person, point and click adventure game ever made. Heck, I even watch the CD-ROM's, the making of MYST and RIVEN, from time to time.

Ahhhhhh Riven. I think everyone already knows how much I love Riven. wink It was my first game and still number one on my list, with Shivers at number 2.

I saw Riven at my daughter's. I bought a Mac just so I could play it. lol I had no idea what computers were capable of doing so you can imagine my awe. I still play it often. It's so relaxing to just take a walk through Riven. I have the DVD version. What a pleasure not changing disks from island to island.

I played Myst after Riven, so I couldn't get too excited about it.

I started with Myst on my old 486, and got hooked right away. In fact, about the only thing I could think of during the day, was how I was going to solve a puzzle I was stuck on. Now that's bad. lol And when I saw Riven in a store, they had to call a janitor to clean my drool off the floor.

I was totally hooked the first time I played Riven, and sometimes, almost got to watch the sun rise. It's one of those games that I had trouble getting out of my head. Another game that I thought about during the day. The graphics are stunning, and the puzzles, well let's just say I have fewer hairs on my head than I once had.

And guess what the store had to do when I saw they had Exile. Ooooo, they were not happy with me.

Since the Myst games, I've played Crystal Key, Riddle of the Sphnix, have started Schizm, and have started Chemicus. Of the above three, only Chemicus comes close to the play and look of the Myst series. Don't know whether to curse or praise Myst for getting me hooked, but the ride sure is fun. wave

I think Riven is the only game that entered my dreams at nite. I remember one nite solving a puzzle in my sleep in the middle of the night. I jumped out of bed and fired up Riven. My husband thought I was crazy. lol

Hi.

I only acquired Riven fairly recently and haven't played it yet eek although I have peeked at it to see what it looked like smile

Is it totally unlinear ??

It will need to be for me. From what I saw I think I could get pretty lost just exploring each scene !! wave

I too can blame Myst for getting me hooked on AGs.Just last April, I got it in a bargain bin as part of a 3-game combo. (really got it for the mahjong game) Finally out of curiosity loaded up the Myst game. Did not have a clue what to do. Wandered around on the island, pushed gadgets and read the books-nothing happened. Finally looked up Myst on the internet and began finding walkthrus and discussion boards-well, the rest is history! Now am looking for a BAAGS support group-i guess GBers is one. Since then, Myst has been the benchmark by which I compare games-but they're all different and I like them for different reasons.BTW-of the Myst series, Riven is my favorite-loved the rides to the different islands and figuring out how to connect to the different levels.

I started out with Myst too, a friend lent it to me, and soon I bought my own. Than came Riven, the best game of them all. I just bought the DVD version. When I played Riven I did not know that there were such things as Walkthroughs or discussion boards. I found GB when I bought a dud and needed help with the setup.
Since than I have been seriously infected with BAAG, played many games and found food friends on GB. After the Myst series my favorite is Schizm, TLJ, Syberia, Morpheus and so on and so on...

Does anyone know where I could find the DVD version? I actually bought my 4th copy of Riven yesterday, when I saw a battered copy looking hopeless in a second hand shop.

The first time I saw Myst was about 5 years at my brother-in-law's house. He was so absorbed in it that I ridiculed him for being so obsessive about a game that had good looks but seemingly no action whatsoever. The next time I saw him, he was playing Riven and I again ridiculed him but this time I took some time to look at the graphics more closely and had to admit that it was a visually stunning game.

He loaned me his Myst during this visit and I was hooked from the first time I wandered around the main world. While I like to think I'm not as obsessive about playing adventure games, I have to honestly admit that I am hooked for good. I've really enjoyed playing the games but I've also enjoyed the fact that this new interest introduced me to this website - - - a most genial bunch of folks!

In no particular order, here are the games that I've found to be almost as good as Riven: Myst Exile, Darkfall (Jonathan, hurry up with your next one!), Riddle of the Sphinx (ditto for Omega Stone), Physicus, Bioscopia and Chemicus.

You may try ebay or gametz to see if there's a copy of Riven DVD.
